Musically, my take on Ado's version was that it was "aggressively annoying", and I'd have to report that Fake Type's version is even worse. As for the music video, really interesting that it's borrows the script from Ado, I guess if you're doing a cover of the song, might as well do a cover of the music video. Although I guess it's technically not a cover since they wrote the song with Ado as far as I'm aware.
Regardless, this is also unfortunately a downgrade too. To be fair, I do like the character designs her, maybe even more than Uta herself, and I quite like that apparently the girl this is focused on, has appeared in multiple of their music videos. If these are the types of songs Fake Type usually makes I'm not sure I'll get through all them, but I do want to check out the videos with her because I find that kind of interesting. But in terms of motion, Ado's kills it. It's especially noticeable if you're comparing the walkway sequence with the main girl sauntering towards the camera with people lined up on both sides. The animation is so much better, I think they should've scrapped that scene here because it looks bad on it's own, and awful in comparison. This video does it's best to keep up with the manic energy of the song, but it just falters in comparison to the Ado version.
I gave the original a 5/10. This is worse, but I don't know if it's worse enough to get a 3/10. After mulling it over, I unfortunately think is. I don't think there's much I like here outside of the character designs, and when there's a better version of both this song and music video out there, it just kind of makes it worse. |
