Glad we are getting a movie 4 soon and it's confirmed, the cliff hanger at the end of movie 3 was wild, can't wait to see how they get around it.

Very coincidental as even though the first season came out in 2017, I only watched it for the first time this year back in the spring and only found out about and watched the third film very close to when it came out (that is, I finished the first season and the first two films almost exactly in time for the third film's release), and then, just two days ago on here, as I was rewatching some parts and it was weighing on my mind, I was answering a question from someone about the number of films planned on the first film's (Crown Handler 1) sub-forum. So it was on my mind quite prominently these past few days. And yet I didn't think I'd hear anything about the fourth film until like next year at some point. Weird coincidences like that always happen.

There was even some speculation in some circles that the remaining films would be indefinitely shelved or canceled because the animation producer for the first season, Crown Handler 1, and Crown Handler 3, Shunpei Maruyama, passed away a few months ago this past August from undisclosed causes.

Wish they would just make a long season.
Movies are nice but it's too long in between.

@bushman66 this studio has a hard time making a full season without schedule slip. I'm surpised their recent Classroom of HEroes had no delays. And PriPri has a pretty good animation.

Damn, This series has been a challenge for me.

Cause it's one of my favourites, but also has one of my favourite dubs...

BUT sentai's dub release is..... VERY slow. So despite how much I adore this series I still haven't seen the third movie!!!

I'm super glad that it is at least getting a continuation though. Japanese fans are really carrying the popularity here.

I hope it released on this year, cause we still have to wait around 3 - 6 month to reach overseas when it released in japan

@DeanP Highly unlikely given Actas still has 2 more GuP movies/specials and their release schedule for their projects in general.

I wonder how big the fanbase and audience for this is. I loved the show, but leaving everyone waiting for so long with this painfully slow dripfeed of movies must have lost a lot of people. I hope they still manage to finish their story.

@Dante012 Seriously. I hope they're not delaying this nor canceled it. This and GuP are Actas' best franchises, and the other one still has 2 more movies.

I have been waiting for years, in order to be able to see the whole thing. Same with GuP. The release pace seems to be slower and slower. While i am happy that this allows for proper quality and polish, i can't help but question their business model. I know that japanese tend to have plenty of qualities i love in people: discretion, respect, a dislike for noisy people, and... patience... But at this point i am wondering if they can still manage to remain that way when the equivalent of a 13 episodes season is released little by little over the course of a damn whole decade. Or more. At this rate, this won't even be finished by the end of 2030.

@Tropisch This explains why both franchises have the same roadmap. Also, is it by any chance that you told me earlier that this way the producers more or less destroyed the hype of the title, since people are much less hyping such projects than full-fledged TV series or single films?

@RobertBobert Sorry for the late reply. But yep, there's practically no marketing for this or GuP, only way I find out these are coming out now is checking their official Twitter or the reddit people post news from. The number of people with PP in their list here is somewhat telling too, I guess. 200k for the TV anime while 20k for the 1st movie, this one only has 5k people with it their list so far. I bet most of them don't even know it got movie sequels.

@Tropisch Is it the same in Japan? Or are these franchises more relevant there due to the domestic market?

@RobertBobert In Japan, they apparently have some collabs with cafes and those small stores where you can win prizes, both are just way more popular there. They also advertise for the movies way more rather than just an announcement on Twitter from anime news groups like they do for the Western fanbase. I know the megami magazine there has PP and GuP images consistently too.

@Tropisch That's true, but I meant primarily popularity among the most ordinary audience. Because it's one thing to specifically track all the news in some thematic subreddit, but it's another to have people who are relevantly hyping it without any original connection to the franchise.

@RobertBobert I'm going to guess part of the so called "military otaku" fanbases which is bigger in Japan than outside would be a big reason. I guess that's why not too many people outside of Japan are big fans of this and GuP, since this one does have some political and military theme (espionage and military talk) I guess in the end though there's no true answer aside from some theories about it but I do think them being movies on an erratic schedule of typically 1-2 years behind Japan release is a huge factor. I think the dedicated people still watching are either just big fans of it's whole story/setting and people who already got this far watching it and want to see the story's end.

@RobertBobert Ah, it was probably the Game of Mission game, it only lasted a year. It was just some puzzle block game with a bunch of random new characters thrown into it. Not sure what they were thinking with making a game for it.

@Tropisch I read about this on the fandom wiki a while back and expected it to be a big part of the future anime lore. But it ended up just getting lost in time.

And how many movies is this going to be again? Is it six total?

I believe 7 movies, not 100% on that though.

The DVD will probably be out by August.
