How much could I enjoy this series if I didn't know so much about Japanese pop culture?

As the title says, i want to start this anime but heard that this series has even more puns and pop culture references than the monogatari series. Can I enjoy it when I miss out on so much?

As a person who finished this anime (first season) with trouble… I must say some parts are funny but the rest I just didn’t get it. I rated it 6 out of 10. I only watched it and tried to finish it because of Nozomu’s VA, Hitoshi Kamiya.

At least ¼ of the jokes flew over my head, but the ¾ that hit were good enough to offset that completely. It's worth it.

This anime is satire. It's not specifically about pop culture even if it is frequently referenced.

There’s so many jokes that your laughs at the jokes you get will make up for the jokes that you don’t.
It’s educational too, you get to learn about historical figures like Commodore Perry!
