That was a really emotional episode ;_; Not only did the man just retire, but he had to come to terms with the fact that his dog is also aging. Shinichirou was even more empathetic than usual, telling the man that he understands why he'd want to help his dog build muscles, but strenuous exercise wasn't the way to go. I also love Suzunosuke, the way he speaks to the owners is so soft and kind.

Ribbon is so cute, I'm glad she's being treated for her heart disease, and she seems to be doing well. Was really heartwarming to see the man and Ribbon in the park together at the end!

Just in case you're not sad enough, I've to remind you that the owner also shows sign of dementia when he thought his dog's 10th birthday party was a recent event.

A very different episode from the usual. Perhaps the most different one of the lot from the 15 total which have aired thus far? We've had episodes before, like the one with the disobedient dog and the mother having control issues with the dog and communicating with her husband and daughter, in which it seemed like more time than average early on was spent on the private lives with the dog of the future/would-be customers of the dog training service from their perspective at home. But this time seemed like the most and we didn't see much of anything to do with Niwa and crew until the last half of the episode and moreso toward the end.

I thought that approach worked well here. And that allowed us to really get in the head of this old guy and what he must be feeling and going through by giving it more time to marinate and more time with just the pair (and also without Miyu there screaming for a little while, so that's a bonus!). It had a strong bleak undertone - through one way or another he "lost" his job, his youth, his wife, his kid/kids, his time when the dog was young, and the time when they were all together (and younger). But you can still seek to salvage some sweet moments from the twilight and strive to make the best possible use of the time you're given in a smart way which can still keep you comfortable and prevent you from shortening the allotted time further. I think that was the lesson they leaned into with the ever-sagacious Nosuke at the vet clinic in the latter part of the episode.

It was definitely a sad episode, but I'm not against having that at all. One of the better ones of the series.

I was on edge because I was afraid that they would show us the inevitable. I'm glad they didn't and that the episode ended with a smile on everyones face. Still, it's an emotional one that makes us realize again, how we can never take sth for granted, especially the time we get to spend with our loved ones. As wonderful as it is to keep a pet, you have to be mentally prepared bc of their short lifespan.
