Literally kidnapping Lum for marriage...this show really has no boundaries.

Jokes aside, this seems like the first of a major plot involving this episode and the upcoming ones. Gotta give credit to Ataru trying to save her girl. Now if only he can keep his hands off of others. Luckily, he has his friends coming so ths isn't a solo mission for him. Exciting tbh. For the first time, it felt like there was higher stakes this season.

Let the Lum rescue arc begin!

On Oniboshi, Lum's parents get a video call from Uba, who brags about kidnapping Lum and planning to marry her to Rupa. Lum's not sitting idle, though. Her father's soldiers try to rescue her, but they're stopped by crates of mushrooms Uba sends crashing down. The mushrooms grow fast, covering the planet and blocking any rescue. Meanwhile, on Earth, Ataru barges into class with a serious look and a bundle on his back.

He offers Mendo info on pretty girls for a ride on his spaceship, which Mendo denies having. Oyuki and Benten show up on Benten's hoverbike, and Ataru fills them in at a sweet shop. Oyuki identifies Rupa as the Prince of the World of Darkness, confirming what Sakura predicted. Ataru, determined to find Lum, rushes off. Oyuki and Benten follow, with Mendo behind them, to Ran's ship. They take control and blast off, searching for a way to reach the World of Darkness.

It's a battle for Lum and Rupa... lmao.

That was one lengthy recap. Kinda unnecessary tbh. But Ig it's meant for those who might've jumped into this episode without watching the previous episode or something...

Boy, that was a good episode. I have so much to say.

First off, finally, Benten and Oyuki properly appear in an episode. I'm still a bit disappointed in their lack of screentime in Season 2. But at least they're here for the final arc... (copium)

Always loved Ran. She was cute and funny as always in this episode. Shame her date got interrupted and her spaceship/home got stolen... Now that I think about it, Ran originally wanted to keep her identity as an alien a secret. But I don't think there was any big reveal where her cover was blown... Ig it was obvious to everyone once they saw how she simped for Rei. Still, it was another missed opportunity for the Remake to do something about this dropped plot point or at least acknowledge it in some way.

I think this is the 3rd time in the whole Remake that Ataru traveled to outer space. The first time was on Lum's planet for the Setsubun festival in Benten's debut episode in Episode 6. The second time is when he goes to Neptune in the same episode. I often see Urusei Yatsura being labeled as a "sci-fi" anime in many places. Considering that, it's crazy that there aren't many episodes that take place in space. Granted, there weren't that many in the manga either. But in the Remake, there are even fewer.

Finally, it's the debut of Carla! Yes, I'll still call her Carla because Karula sounds dumb. Unless someone can give me a source where Takahashi calls her Karula, I'm not using that name. Anyway, it's wild hearing Inori Minase voicing her. She gives a completely different energy compared to Carla from the movie. The OG Carla was actually voiced by the first VA of Ran, You Inoue. So, hearing her rowdy take was a treat.

You Inoue quit voicing Ran about halfway through the original Urusei Yatsura because she traveled abroad. Ran's VA was then replaced by Komiya Kazue who remained as her VA until Kana Hanazawa got the role for the Remake. Once Inoue returned to Japan, she got recast as the voice of Carla. And I thought it was very cool that she rejoined the Urusei Yatsura cast without replacing Ran's existing VA. Sadly, she passed away in 2003 from lung cancer.

Of course, I think Minase-san did a phenomenal job too. It's not just her voice, she also looks very cute in the Remake!

I loved that new eyecatch. It seems I was right about the eyecatch being different in every episode of the last arc after all. I have an idea of what the next 2 eyecatches are going to be.

The animation of this episode was also really good. Especially that hallway chase scene. Also, Lum looks great in a bride outfit as always! I liked the detail of copy Lum having a slightly off color too lol.

Things are rough between Ataru and Lum. These episodes must suck for those who ship AtaLum heavily. I can't wait for the final two episodes!

Another great episode for this final arc, once again it seems to be going exactly like the movie but I’m sure there are some minor differences since it’s been a bit since I watched it, but nothing big has stood out to me. And at last, Carla is here! Absolutely loved her in the movie and they’ve done a great job with her here, love her new voice although it’s pretty different from the original, and her new look for the remake looks great with the pink edges in her white hair, really happy with her treatment. And right away she’s making herself known with that beautiful wedding dress and explosive crashing of the wedding, if your man don’t love you back then blow the place up lol, and I’m surprised Ataru wasn’t more all over her since she’s one of the hottest babes of the series, I guess that shows how serious he was about this situation, it’s just a shame the Lum copy fooled him.

And speaking of Lum, love her wedding dress here as well, and I also noticed she was wearing socks and shoes like she’d wear for her school uniform before the wedding, something about that make her usual outfit hotter since it makes it seem more like underwear lol. And it was also nice getting to see Benten and Oyuki again, they certainly have been neglected in Season 2 but I’ll always love these space babes, Benten a bit more so because I’m Benten biased lol. And also nice to see Ran again, it’s been a minute since we’ve seen her as well I think, and with Mendou along with them, I’m looking forward to seeing how they do the later stuff of this arc.

Yeah, it was really well adapted. I think it's nice that they took their time for the final arc - nothing was rushed, nothing was cut out. A nice tribute before the story.
The animations are also convincing. The darkness in particular was captured really well. And as you already mentioned: Lum's bride outfit - absolutely stunning.😍

Omg, I always wondered that too and thought that in 366 chapters I simply forgot where a reveal came. But apparently there never was oneπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. But I think he found out at the latest in "Cosmo Teacher CAO-2" (chapter 180 in the manga, episode 21 in the reboot) - when Ran, Lum, Benten and Oyuki remember their time at school together in space. So if he didn't put two and two together, then I don't know.πŸ˜…

Generally a cool episode that shows the interaction between the characters well. Benten, Oyuki, Ran, Rei Ataru, Lum work amazingly well as a team.
Carla also an interesting character. Her interaction with Rupa here reminds me a little bit of Lum's & Atarus relationship. In both cases the male gets forced into the relationship and - as you can see in the chasing scene - both females have quite a temper, when they get angry.πŸ˜…

I'm really looking forward to the adaptation of the next chapters. It can definitely continue at such a high level.

Some nice animation in the palace. I like how they dedicated new eyecatch each episode for final arc. Lum bride looks way prettier compared to the one in the movie 5. Remake being a lot more colourful really helps a lot. I prefer Carla's old VA than the remake one for how tough and rowdy her voice. About where Rupa and Carla came fromwhich is Dark dimension as the gang mentioned, it's a good reference on the dark side of the moon. I find it a little off when the inside of the palace was very bright and contrasting with their surrounding. It's a little miss opportunity to have their anglerfish light rod on their head to light up the surrounding instead. It's nice to see Ran, Oyuki and Benten back and we kind of not see them much this season. They have really a fun story with Lum that I kind of wish to see it get adapted like the cosmic box toy one, we were robbed.

Yes, they kind of parallel to each other where Atalum from the light world, Rupa and Carla from dark dimension. Kind of symbolic where Atalum have to face their darker side head on in order for them to made up in the end.

A courier bearing a Vid tape lol. If anything the Darkness sure doesn't mess around with their measures. Nice to see Benten and Oyuki return for this arc too. Curious that the starship was actually also a portal to their realm. The team calmly walking out of the cage after knocking it down was damm cool. Carla was less of a childhood friend but more of a stickup friend. Curious to see what happens next. Inori was the perfect cast for Carla.

An intense high stakes episode.
It's fortunate that Ten managed to cling on to his cousin Lum.
Ataru has such determination to get Lum back, keeping her expelled horns and attempting to trade something once valuable to him for Moroboshi's assistance, but it seems instinct kicked in when he was in Ran's spaceship.

hot damn Karula's design.
Now both Lum and her in wedding dresses.
Upa had to create a submissive clone of Lum for Rupa as a contingency, but caught up in the confusion with yandere Karula, Ataru thinks Lum doesn't want to return.

We're getting deep in darkness and as such much of the cast is getting involved. This is the most concerned Ataru has been for Lum and it shows as he takes the initiative to rescue her though not so much to express how he feels. A misunderstanding between them has created friction and this is probably going to end badly next episode as we reach the grand finale.

Hype is up.

This time, the series presents a film adaptation of the 359-361 chapters of the manga, damn deja vu after watching, as if watching a 1988 film cut into several parts with an updated drawing. By the way, you can try to make each arch from the current series so that it is a big episode like in the 1981 anime or a full-fledged movie like the last series.

@lumjulian There's also the plothole in the Remake about why Ran gave up on kissing Ataru and sucking his youth. In both the manga and the OG anime she tried multiple times to kiss him and gave up after the episode where she successfully kissed him and it turns out that it didn't work (Episode 35 or Chapter 60). The Remake doesn't adapt that story and so it was never really explained why she didn't do that anymore.

@0451 I think more than that bogus attempt (due to Sakurambo 'potion', right ?) the main reason is that Ran got what she really wanted: Rei ! Eventhough her goal was achieved by constantly feeding him plenty of food and not by reciprocate love (but that time Rei saved her from falling...)

Rupa kidnapping Lum for marriage, and even more know that her parents know that she has lost her horns, the Light Dominion's Oni tribe is in full force...or it so seems before the Dark Dominion has them completely dominated through mushrooms.

With both Benten and Oyuki being filled in on the situation, Sakura's predicament actually came true, and the only way they can borrow a spaceship, is through Ran for a one-way ticket back up to space, for a race against time. Thankfully there's Ten to help Lum gain her sanity for the time being while they reach the planet with no sun and eternal darkness...only to get captured as a whole, without Karula's ship, which Ataru found her after wandering on the airport's glowing pond.

Karula wanting to stop Rupa's engagement with Lum whilst the ruthless son and his great-grandfather steals the show, she has to do it with Ataru to disrupt the wedding, even if they have to use the stand-in in case the real one doesn't comply. And knowing Rupa's real intent, Karula goes for the kill and Ataru...has to be led on together with Rupa of all circumstances.

This wedding shtick really is one for the ages...

What a great opening, Ataru dropping all that stalker material to Mendo (in a time without internet too) just giving for granted his family can afford a space shuttle and help him as a payback. Yeah, just borrow Ran spaceship, she will be glad to help. Finally Benten and Oyuki return for real and take a real part in the plot as well.

Using a body double for Lum is low. Rupa and Karula flashback made me laugh, instead, even if she is clearly unstable. Half the arc is done and not gonna lie, this second episode went by fast...good sign.
