Why is this considered a side story and not a sequel?

This anime takes place after season 2 when his 2 best friends died, so shouldn't this be a sequel?

Bridon arc is a prequel to season 1 and 2, thus it is not classified as a sequel. But because Bridon spoils plot points of season 1 and 2 and is intended to be watched after them, therefore classifying it as a prequel would confuse new fans if they try to start with it. Thus, it was listet as a related entry to season 2, but not as a prequel/ sequel.

At least this is what I think, but I could be wrong though.
