 Yuki Urushibara, the acclaimed creator of Mushishi, has launched a new fantasy manga, Suiheisen no Nella (Nella of the Horizon), in the April issue of Afternoon magazine on Tuesday. Set in a seaside town, Suiheisen no Nella follows Minagi, a young girl living with her fisherman grandfather. One day, during a powerful tide, she encounters a mysterious blue-eyed young man named Nagi, who claims to be searching for a mermaid. Years later, Nagi reappears before Minagi, looking exactly the same as before. On another fateful night of a great tide, Minagi is drawn into the sea as if guided by an unseen force. The series debuted with a full-color, 110-page opening chapter. Unlike a traditional serialized manga, Suiheisen no Nella will continue as an irregularly published series of short stories. Urushibara originally serialized Mushishi in Afternoon Season Zoukan from 1999 to 2002. Following the magazine's cessation, the manga switched to Monthly Afternoon, where it ended in 2008. The magazine ran a two-chapter special titled Mushishi Tokubetsu-hen: Hihamukage in November–December in 2013. Urushibara published a special one-shot subtitled Chi Kakeru Kage in March 2021. The manga was adapted into a 26-episode anime series by Artland, airing from Fall 2005 to Spring 2006. The Mushishi: Hihamukage (Mushi-shi: The Shadow that Devours the Sun) special followed in January 2014. Mushishi Zoku Shou (Mushi-shi: Next Passage), the second anime season, aired in split cours in Spring 2014 and Fall 2014. Mushishi Zoku Shou: Odoro no Michi (Mushi-shi: Path of Thorns), a second special, aired in August 2014. | They're also reprinting the Mushishi artbook as a celebration for this new manga beginning, so if you want that artbook get it now since it was heavily out of print for 10+ years. |

| Great news- Mushishi is a brilliant work. The story of this sounds very similar to one of the episodes of Mushishi, I think Series 1 "Beyond the Sea" when Ginko meets a man who is constantly sitting by the shore, waiting for his wife to return. They had gotten lost in the fog off shore... Several of the episodes had marine themes, and Adashino even lives by the seashore, so the themes here sound close to the author's area of knowledge. An anime adaptation would be great! |
