Why did the episode count change? A lot of these episode didn’t air at the same, didn’t it make more sense before when they were different entries. I have no idea if my number of watched episodes also changed.

I just noticed this myself. I think it would be nice if DB mods would make a note/more info/forum post or something when modifying episode counts/combining entries that had finished status.

I am fairly certain my episode count is wrong now too. I hate having inaccurate counts on my list.

@ArcadiaInferno, the reason I noticed this is because of anime.plus, it tells you when you have mismatched episode counts

From what I can tell MAL used to have 5 entries which are now combined into 1.
Season 1 - entry #37292 was 48 episodes, now 96
Previous Season 2 - entry #42454 was 12 episodes, now deleted
Previous Season 3 - entry #42455 was 12 episodes, now deleted
Previous Season 4 - entry #48374 was 12 episodes, now deleted
Previous Season 5 - entry #49620 was 12 episodes, now deleted

I had finished the previous Season 3 on 11/23/2024, which should have put my combined episode count for the new season 1 at 72. It was at 48 earlier today. It looks like when the entries were combined anyone who watched past season 1 episode 48 didn't have future episodes counted on MAL.

@ArcadiaInferno What a shame. Since I can't remember if I watched the other seasons, I downloaded some of the rest of the episodes, but there don't seem to be subs available past episode 80, even online. So, I'm gonna be stuck at epsiode 80 for a while.

FYI, if you need to check your watch history for an entry try using this link: (add the entry ID number after the =)

https://myanimelist.net/ajaxtb.php?keepThis=true&detailedaid=

example -
Previous season 2
https://myanimelist.net/ajaxtb.php?keepThis=true&detailedaid=42454

If you added episodes of that anime to your MAL list previously it should show your history when you added individual episodes. The ID #s can be found toward the end of MAL's URLs on each anime page.

You can also see this if you click the Anime Updates link on your profile page then the Edit link at the right pertaining to any anime on your recent history.

So here's the thing:

WeTV, which is International version of Tencent/QQ Videos that stream the donghua, listed S1 as 96 episodes in total1, and what assumed as "Season 6" (I'd personally refer it as cour instead) is S2 in Tencent2.... Though, if I'm being honest to you, yeah, it doesn't make any sense for MAL. They usually use similar naming like "Fei Ren Zai Season 1 Part 2" etc based on how they applied on other shows with split season.

Now to make it even more confusing, Bilibili now releasing the (true and recent) S3 as well3

So most likely, MAL mods tried to align the count with Tencent/WeTV.
