Best episode so far. Showed that Moonrise is willing to explore a far more nuanced side of populism. I enjoy when shows begin with a simple premise but become increasingly nuanced in the face of new information; it displays some intelligence on behalf of the writer.

Often, when shows cover a topic like populism or fascism, they childishly demonize its supporters and paint them as inhuman villains. This is dangerous, as it fails to recognize or address the reasons why populism rises and refuses to recognize that populist and fascist movements are fundamentally within human capacity. Moonrise has shown that it recognizes and understands the nuances of the rise of populism.
The people of the moon, although their praxis is flawed, have very valid reasons to be disillusioned with Earth. This is incredibly realistic and brings to mind most the Iraq War and other US interventions (which I am nearly certain inspired this either directly or indirectly, along with some sprinkles of Trigun). The first episode is 9/11, Bob Skylum is Osama Bin Laden/Saddam Hussein, and Sapientia's war is the Iraq War. Thus, I suspect the "resources of the moon" will play a rather important role in the upcoming episodes.
I was surprised by the lengths certain parts of this episode were willing to go. Most notably, the child, but also the protest. The force running the village, Obst, is reminiscent of some of the more violent regimes covertly backed by the United States due to aligned interests against a common enemy.

So yeah, pretty impressed with this episode.
