Subs are out now. The identity and memories plot device aside, it really seems like Reiko seperates herself from the other Kujirai B. More history and lore revealed this episode as well especially about Kowloon Walled City #2. Completely demolished...

The episode begins with a flashback of Kudou consulting Gwen about confessing his feelings to Kujirai, showing how close they are and how much Gwen cares about Kudou. But when Kudou asks Gwen the same question Gwen once asked him in the past about Kujirai, Kudou's face looked really scary. Miyuki suddenly falling ill—does this have something to do with Kowloon? I wonder. I have to admit, Miyuki and Gwen's relationship is rather interesting. So, the real Kujirai died by suicide, and Kudou claims he killed her. I wonder what really happened between those two. It's also interesting to remember that Kujirai B was being treated for insomnia by Dr. Wong. Of course, Yaomei doesn't want Kujirai to cling to Kujirai B and be like her, since Yaomei has given up on her own past identity. But when Kujirai said she wouldn't be moving out, it felt like a slap to Yaomei's face and was the funniest part to me. It seems Kudou is worried that Kujirai will disappear, since it's been a year since Kujirai B died. It was also a nice treat to see Kujirai and Yaomei in swimsuits, as we normally can't see them like that with no sea in the city and them being unable to leave. If I'm correct, it looks like Reiko isn't real, just like Kowloon and all the people that exist in it. If that's true, then she and everything there exist because of Hajime and his desire for Kowloon, probably tied to some memory-related stuff—or maybe there's a totally different angle to all this. Now that Kujirai has learned something terrifying about herself and the possible consequences of what could happen if she left the Kowloon parameters, how will this unfold in the next episode?

Damn what an episode! Ton of stuff dropped on us in this one yet again seemingly in very short order. Love how this show has these really hype last 5-6 minutes that leave your jaw on the floor. So the truth is finally out about Kowloon and its residents “not existing” as if Reiko’s mental state needed more stress. She was just starting to get over the Reiko B thing now her whole existence is called into question!! AHHHH MY DOOMED YAOI SHIP BACKSTORY!!! Gwen and Miyuki were so cute 😍 it’s so sweet that Gwen didn’t care about Miyuki having no set gender and both reproductive organs, he’s the first person to just them as an individual. Miyuki may have acted nonchalant with Gwen last time they met, but Gwen’s still on their mind even when in a brothel lol. So we still didn’t really get any answers about what Zirconians are and how they’re different from clones, but we know Reiko is something different. She’s a “generic” and developed much later. Wonder what that means. Yaomay swimsuit episode??! I’m so moved 😩 I was really hoping Reiko would actually move to a new room so she could really start forming her own unique identity, but after Kudo came to her at night talking about Reiko B’s anniversary you can’t fault her for staying.. given what we learn at the end of the ep, she might only be able to exist in that room. I love how Yaomay is just upset because she wants her to be closer to her, she’s so gay lol Man the ending is so wild, who would’ve thought a pizza delivery guy would spill the beans like that lol. Wonder how Reiko is gonna handle this and if we’ll start getting answers about why people like Yaomay and Gwen can see Kowloon!

I like how every time Kujirai and Hebinuma meet, is very productive. I'm somewhat okay with Kudo's attachments to Kujirai B, but that going literally to the Kujirai's door just to say " The death anniversary of the person you aren't, is tomorrow.", feels too much. After that cliffhanger in the manga I don't remember very well.

Really good episode. So what I'm getting from this is that people outside of Kowloon can't see Kowloon and see it as "an abandoned ruin". They also don't see Reiko either. So if Reiko went to go shopping in Hong Kong, she would be invisible to everyone but Yaomei. Now I understand why Kudo said "stay by me" last episode. Because if she went somewhere that ISNT Kowloon, no one would be able to guide her or help her if she committed going on that trip. No one will see her, no one will talk to her and certainly no one, will know her. 5/5

Trying to humour this show and the fact that I am somewhat starting to enjoy it I gotta say its definitely a weird concept. So kawloon was destroyed and somehow a second one came about spawning doppelgängers of people who have a connection to this place and not everyone can see them. At least that's how I understand it I think. And Kudo probably knows Reiko can't leave Kawloon or she will disappear possibly forever since the original is already dead so he's scared of losing her. Or hell who knows maybe a third reiko would appear if our current one tried leaving Kawloon/Died.

| So Kudo is in Kowloon because he knows Reiko can't leave. But my theory is Kudo is the reason Kowloon (and Reiko) exists, since his yearning for Reiko and Kowloon is what is sustaining the illusion. Which would make this a chicken-or-egg situation with no escape. I think the only way this ends is Reiko making herself disappear. Unless she "breaks the system" by finding her "absolute self" and achieving some kind of transcendence. kennynakawaki said: It really is Kaguya-sama Yeah I keep hearing agitated/freaking-out Kaguya, haha. | Wait wait, I don't get it. So, is Reiko actually some kind of ghost or data copy of the original woman? Or is it some kind of time parallel dimensions and Reiko and the town just ended up in "our" time? Man, I hope this doesn't end up with Kudo having to let her go again and our Rokopon not only dying but disappearing altogether. But anyway, while Gwen often seemed very sus to me after past events, he really saved the day here as the MVP. @FarCritical It seriously surprises me that so many people are calling this a "generic love story". I mean, seriously? It's literally a sci-fi story about existential issues and the MC is jealous of her love interest over her dead original self, what even remotely resembles a generic love story? @ponkowo22 You don't see any development here because this is not the type of romance where the main intrigue is "will they get together or not". The main intrigue is what is Reiko's nature and whether she has a future given all this. @phantomfandom Considering how much you were rooting against the center straight couple in Shirley, I'm not even surprised that you asked this question, lmao. @perseii It's quite strange, but the main intrigue of this title is somewhat reminiscent of the recent film by Mari Okada, and things there were, to put it mildly, not very rosy. I didn't even think that this title would remind me of this movie. |

This just got even weirder today, with Gwen & that pizza delivery guy. I had a feeling it was coming though, like they are some kind of Holographic projections people who had an intense connection with the 2nd Kowloon Walled City can see, but not outsiders. And if Reika stepped outside, she would vanish. That floating thing again being a key to this somehow. Again though, every question I get an answer for leaves me with at least 2 more!

This episode reminded me of "Maboroshi". There are many similarities. It's still a mystery why some people see this Kowloon and some don't. And, it's interesting what the endgame will be for this show. Will it disappear for all and everyone will vanish (we already know that's possible), or it's somehow possible for "zerconians" to enter the real world somehow? Or maybe Reiko and this Kowloon can exist in a separate dimension no matter what (unless that thing remains in the sky, which is a source I suppose).

@FarCritical I don't know if it was related to the author's previous manga, but it seems like many people expected this to be a strictly romantic story and were disappointed that it was more of a sci-fi detective story.

In the end, I love the pairing of by Miyuki and Tao, which is weird, because at first I didn't like Miyuki at all. Personally, it's the first male couple I've seen in an anime, and they really seem to have a good time together 😏. Poor Kudou... He doesn't appear much in the story, but the pain he must feel seeing Reiko - someone identical to his dead fiancée - has to be unbearable. Damn, another cliffhanger! Well, they had already said it the previous episode, that Kowloon is like a ghost town only visible to some. But the revelation that Reiko doesn't exist either? At this point, I have no idea what's going on, but I still believe that those who can see the city are the ones looking for their “true selves”. Maybe after Kujirai B's suicide, Reiko somehow appeared? I have no idea anymore.

Hmmm so far the revalations aren't really living up to expectations. She can't leave, she's a "Generic"...OK a lot of that just sounds like "It's magic I don't have to explain". And now that we know the original killed herself and he was going to propose, and he claims he killed her, don't tell me it's going to say she killed herself because he proposed and couldn't choose between him and Kowloon or something lame like that.

I had a hunch that the OG Reiko committed suicide, since in the previous episode, there was one line she said that stuck out for me: "My story is not going to end, nor will it continue." Turns out it was true afterall! (For now at least). Her story did not continue, but "her" story is also not ending, so long as current Reiko exists. "The Landing Case Files" in virtual Kowloon seems to be an allegory for Kujirai B's life - part 1 was her story, and part 2 is now gibberish because the virtual world does not have the data for the part of OG Reiko's life that she intentionally cut off. My personal theory is that OG Reiko was someone who truly embraced axiological hedonism, and her concern with how part 2 of the "Case Files" book may be boring compared to how "perfect" part 1 was could also allude to her personal view on life - that she'd rather go out when she thinks her story has reached its peak, than continue on with a life that she may no longer gain pleasure from. I wonder why Kudo claims that he had killed her though - does he somehow blame himself for possibly contributing to her death? We'll see. For now, it seems like his feelings were strong enough to resonate with Gene Terra (which we don't seem to fully know how it works yet) and create and maintain a second "Second Kowloon Walled City" ("Third" rather?). Also, if Reiko does decide to leave this realm for some reason, would a third Reiko shows up? And what happened to the virtual doctor? (The one that was part of Miyuki's experiment) Did he respawn at all? Can Gene Terra only ever clone each person only once? What a mysterious piece of technology. Aside from all that, it was really nice to see how Miyuki's identity is depicted. It seems like he considers himself to be agender, but is masc-presenting and uses he/him pronouns to fit in the "conventional" view on gender identity, but now that Tao Gwen has entered his life and showed him that there really are people who can wholly embrace who he really is, he's now determined to be his absolute self. I hope that they'll become together again somehow, and/or continue to have as much screentime as they currently do. Looking forward to future episodes!

It sounded like clones and generics are different things. I'm guessing a clone is an actual biological clone which would be flesh and blood and able to leave Kowloon, while a generic is part of the illusory scenery, no different than the buildings and the food. Dunno if it's in their heads, or some simulation generated by that flying octohedron that they keep showing. It might explain some of Reiko's behavior, which seems to be molded by Kudou or Yaomei influence despite her claiming to want to be her authentic self.

I had a feeling Kujirai B committed suicide with her ominous statement before. Her mindset is a bit unusual but I get it. Young Gwen blushing so hard to Miyuki was cute. Ooft I get it why it would be so hard that anniversary coming up and needing to be near her room. Only thing I am not quite clear on is how real or not is Kowloon and Reiko. I guess that will be explained. I probably should check out the manga if I have time to see what stuff was cut in all of it. Also still not clear on the difference between a Zirconian, a clone and a Generic.

@RobertBobert So this is really hard to figure out because we are deliberately being strung along with little bread crumbs and I love it. 1. The word generic is usually meant as ordinary. So the title suggested an "ordinary" love story, but that thing in the sky that has something to do with trying to keep memories in storage for later retrieval or possibly just plain immortality as hinted by Hebi not wanting his Dad to succeed in creating a backup copy of his dead son, is also called a Generic. 2 There are now 3 types. Originals who can ordinarily NOT see Kowloon (pizza guy) Clones who possibly don't know they're copies. And now Generics which Hebi hinted that was what his dad was trying to create. So now the Title makes a lot more sense... you can have a Generic Romance which is possibly better than a Clone romance. Perhaps there is a taboo against falling for a clone so Kudo didn't have feelings for the clone version of Kurijai but is struggling because technically, she is not one. She's a generic. 3. I think the real crazy part of this show that keeps me wanting more is understanding the mystery of how/why some people can see and interact with the false Kowloon. Some suggest it's a simulation but clearly it has physical properties. You can't eat a simulation. Kudo's real and he is clearly eating real physical food. But what's weird is that Gwen is NOT eating that food for some reason. I'm leaning that Kowloon and the gadget in the sky is actually projecting a parallel universe version of Kowloon onto our ruined Kowloon...it's allowing some people to interact with it and others can't. Still doesn't explain the Memory Tech stuff. We know Hebi's father is responsible for all of this and the motivation is to "resurrect" his son, not just a clone version, and maybe a parallel version with the original's memory is what he's after and that Kurijai's just that, but without the memories.

@Ranchpig Come to think of it, I just now noticed that the word generic is in the title itself. Oh my god... But other than that, I like that the author manages to intrigue me with so many interesting questions about how the world works in this story. But I'm also subconsciously afraid that I might be disappointed or confused by the reveal.

It's such a progressive idea to have in an anime a romance between Gwen and someone who can't decide which gender they recognize as. Certainly having both male and female genitals can easily lead to identity crisis and we've seen just how much the theming of identity is relevant to this show in particular. Speaking of which, Reiko isn't a Zirconian nor a clone, she's something else, a generic, one living a romance in Kowloon, kind of like... well you get the idea. But the interesting part came by the end with her unable to leave Kowloon since she seems to be bound by it probably by a feature of Generic Terra. I'd like to know what the characters make of this revelation and how Reiko in particular takes it considering how much she values her absolute self. Also, how did the Kujirai commit... well that.

So something created the 2nd Kowloon and people within it? that's why for some reason only certain people can see it and the rest can't? still a big mystery to me Yaomei is being totally stupid, the fact the pizza guy don't see Reiko is evidence enough that what Tao told them is true but she refuse to accept

This was a top tier episode! Gwen was definitely the MVP, with his scenes being the most memorable. I loved seeing how he met Miyuki. Despite not liking the guy, they are cute together. Him talking with Kudo was cool, too. Of course, the final scene was the best, by far. It was really eerie when the delivery man didn't acknowledge Reiko!

Loved this episode, it has been a great job for the team to try to put almost the whole manga so sophisticatedly into 12 episode. I’ve enjoyed every episode as each one reveals more heart-grasping details that tells the story about this ‘imagined city’. However, the pace in this episode didn’t went as well as the previous few, personally, I felt a slight overshot in the amount of dialogue and quite an abrupt change in Yaomei’s attitude slightly interrupts the flow of the story telling. But overall, I think the team has done a decent job in fitting enough information for audience to understand the causes and effects as the plot proceeds.

This anime really like a cliffhanger Also, in this ep we have all the words of anime's title: Kowloon: location who shouldn't exist Generic: "category" of Reiko's existence Romance: a lot between Miyuki and Gwen

@Kai200X It's not so easy to digest. It's easy for us knowing we are watching an anime episode having the mystery unravel slowly, but if it was happening in front of you in real life~ ghost cities coming to life and only some people being able to see them is clearly not a normal occurrence. In comparison her knowing Reiko is not the real one is a lot more plausible with clones existing and such, in a way it's like crossing from sci-fi to fantasy~ So I don't think her reaction is unreasonable.

I think I might be done with this show. It sucks, but I just don't enjoy watching this show anymore. I don't get it. I was really into this early on and loved it, but I've seriously just lost interest at this point. I'm not a fan of the weird pacing a lot of the episodes have had at this point, and I think I'm just too stupid to really understand this mystery, or I just really can't be bothered to wrap my head around it at this point. Essentially, there were like 3 Kowloon's. 2 Physical ones, the original and then an illegal copy (why was it illegal?), and then this imaginary one that for some reason people can see, and even live in, despite it being in complete ruins. How? Idk. I don't get it. Despite the place being in ruins and being demolished, people can somehow still live there. Kujirai B existed at one point, but she committed suicide. Maybe because the second Kowloon was destroyed and she just couldn't live with that fact. That, or Kudo wasn't lying, and he really did kill Kujirai B by making/pushing her to commit suicide at some point. Time passes, and Kowloon is back, except it's not real and only certain people can see it. Some people see ruins, others see perfectly normal buildings. Somehow they're able to live in the city despite it being in ruins, but whatever. I don't think it'll ever be fully explained how that works, but fine. Kudo moves back to this imaginary Kowloon, and he finds the current Reiko. They're not the same one they were engaged to. They're a 'generic' or something. Ngl I really could not be bothered to sit through that exposition so idk how it works, but from what I gathered she's like a clone or a zirconian. She's not real. Probably just Kudo's memory of her or something. By the end of this, I'm guessing Kudo will wake up from this dream and realize that the Kowloon he's living in isn't real, Reiko will disappear, and he'll just move on with his life. That, or he'll spend the rest of his life with a recreation/memory of the deceased woman he once loved, never being able to move past her. Who knows how close I am, but those are my ideas. I'm curious to see how close I am, but I don't think I'm going to keep watching. I really don't care anymore. It sucks to say that too because this was easily one of my favorite shows for this season, and I was so sure I'd be interested and watch the whole thing, but I guess not. I'm just really not feeling this show anymore :/

My theory is simple. The only people who can see and feel Kowloon recreation are people who have identity issues. Think about it. Original Kowloon which also existed in our world, got copied into Second Kowloon (nostalgia), then it had the same fate as the original one (demolished for political/legal reasons) All main characters have identity issues. Basically they're all trying to find their true selves. That's why whether they knew of Second Kowloon or not initially isn't the determining factor, but rather whether or not they are truly in line with their own perceptions of themselves. As others have said and seems obvious, Kudo is at the center of it all with both the demolition of Second Kowloon and B's suicide being the fulcral point that "split" things.
