It is said to Maquia by the Elder that she would be alone if she fell love. Later, Leila decides to finally meet her daughter, Medmel, but then chooses to leave her behind without even talking to her. Maquia does the same with Ariel, which brings me to the question: do the mothers leave their children behind because seeing them live and eventually die is too painful, resulting in them 'being alone'? The point is, can Iorphs not love non-Iorphs due to their different lifespans?

It's kind of pointing out the problem with being immortal. I haven't seen the movie in a bit, but that's what I grasp from it. They only want their people to be with their own due to them living longer, and the pain of losing someone you truly love is too painful.

The point is they will inevitably outlive the people they meet, meaning they'll carry the loss of losing that person with them forever, and some of them think that it's therefore better to never get attached in the first place.

Leila did not listen and regretted it, so she returned home without her child.

Maquia, however, is different because she believes it is a beautiful experience. She doesn’t mind her own suffering, but she soon realized it would also bring suffering to her child. This is why she left him when he was an adult. By the end of the movie, she does not regret her decision and continues to embrace her ideology.

Truth is absolute but human perception of truth is always relative.
