Just watched this in 2025 for the first time after working through the old iterations by release date(definitely recommend doing that). They reused the old footage and built a compelling story that incorporated it which was super cool to see. Not essential to enjoy the show but there are a lot of things like that throughout. There is heavy usage of symbolism; some of the best and natural feeling I've ever seen. They even have a special live action episodes with some of the voice actors in the show where they walk around Kyoto visiting places and names that are depicted, and discussing their significance in the story, which I loved.

It's shows like this that remind me of why I love this medium so much. You may not love it as much as I do or even like it. Usually even the folks that don't care for it have something good to say about it and I think that says a lot. If it caught your eye and you are thinking about watching it, watch it.

I very much enjoyed Myoue II's whole role throughout. His and Koto's scenes together are my favorite in the whole show. I feel like all the voice talent is incredible. Kurama and Yase's scenes with Myoue II are also on up there. Was really getting strong Gurren Lagaan vibes from the show from episode 7 onwards.

I agree with this post. Watch Kyousougiga. It is one of the finest original anime to be put out. A unique, visually gorgeous show with resonate theming and masterful direction.

However, I do not recommend watching the ovas or episode 0 before the main series as they spoil it and are just inferior.
