I haven't seen any Ultra series yet. I was wondering if this one is beginner-friendly or if I'd miss some context from the previous shows. Is this in the same continuity as the live-action series or it's a different one? Does it reference the previous ones or not at all?

It's a different continuity and you will not really miss anything if you start with this. That said, this is quite different from how live action Ultraman works so it's really a thing of its own. I'd still recommend you to start from the original 1966 series
