Oh my God they did NOT need to go this hard on Zukyoon and Kiss’ transformation!! Their human forms are so gorgeous too. But the joy of that is overshadowed by the gut wrenching end to the episode. Poor Uta, from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows 😢

How have I only just clocked that “Zukyoon” is an onomatopoeia for the sound an arrow makes when it hits something. Fitting since she’s pierced right through to Uta’s heart and it’s love at first sight for our girl. “All I can do is think zukyoon thoughts about zukyoon” totally not gay lol. Had a lot of fun watching the girls try to find Kiss and Zukyoon today, the way they only just now realized that they can transform too 😂 swear these girls share 1 brain cell.

Tsumgu is a fun new side character, we finally got someone that’s as obsessed with the new cures as Uta is. Too bad she has to be this week’s monster transformation. Speaking of which, Zakkuri is 100 percent gonna be a cure kiss/zukyoon stan isn’t he?

They went sooo hard on the new cures transformation scenes and their face cards oh my goodness! One of my faves in recent memory. Zukyoon Bazooka is never gonna get old to me, such a cool attack. But this episode and last episode got me wondering what exactly Meroron sacrificed.. I thought it was her feelings for Purirun but she clearly still retains those and seemingly all her memories.. so what was the most precious thing she gave up?

Ending scene’s kinda giving Re:Zero “who’s rem” vibes. Absolutely gutted for Uta to finally meet her idol who happens to be her best friend and she doesn’t even remember her.. can’t imagine the whirlwind of emotions she’s gotta be going thru now. And to make things worse, Meroron won’t even explain things to her. Cruel. I wonder how she’ll handle things going forward.

"Yes. I'm watching them" - Zakkuri with no fear.

I'm kinda disappointed with who had the Kirakira stolen. The shiny blue coat person felt more Kirakilala, than Tsumugu. Like living a more true life for themselves.

Heart Kirari Lock looking at Meroron sacrifice. "I guess, I can make do(?)"

In any case, I think it's safe to say at this point that this is worst written Pretty Cure series by far. It's become clear to me that the story is more about Purirun and Meroron than it is about the three main human characters, who in this show are clearly being treated as secondary. Just like last week's episode, this one in particular was only written the way it was just make the three human characters look stupid (even by Pretty Cure standards), complete with those dumb expressions with the eyes (you've seen them, I'm sure), especially Uta, whom the writers had reduced to a Cure Zukyoon fangirl. When she discovers that Cure Zukyoon is Purirun, she acts SO surprised, like she had never seen such a thing in her life (to her credit, she still remembers that she's also a Pretty Cure, but that's it). The journalist they meet this week? She's just there to emphasize how idiotic the writers made the three characters, and she's the victim of the week as well. In short, the writers felt they had to make the main characters look dumb in order to try to be funny, and in this case, also for the sake of dramatic tension, which could be done in any TV show let alone Japanese or anime. This episode honestly feels like nothing more than a comedy filler episode, even though it technically isn't.

The real problem however, is Meroron/Cure Kiss. She essentially has Puirun convinced that she has to stay away from Uta because it's for both their own good, but the truth is, Meroron wants her "nee-tama"/"onee-sama" all to herself, and doesn't want to share her with anyone else, which is beyond selfish. Sure, you could say she was never taught any differently, but Meroron is clearly one of those characters who is extremely jealous, and thinks that both she and her one special friend are all that matter in the multiverse, and thus thinks everyone else is irrelevent, which makes her think she gets to be rude to everyone, but as we all know, that's not how it works. Honestly, this show feels like a deconstruction, even though it technically isn't. Anyway, next week's episode involves a "picnic to recover lost memories", but my real concern is when that will actually happen; Purirun recovering her lost memories, I mean. Yeah, Meroron never lost hers in the first place, which makes me concerned that she might try to prevent Purirun from recovering her memories at all...

Now, I'll continue to watch this show, but that doesn't change what I've just said. I'm sure Meroron will come around eventually, but that simply doesn't change the fact that the writers took creative shortcuts in order to keep things interesting. Did previous Pretty Cure shows do that? Maybe, maybe not, but either way, they're still creative shortcuts, again, even by Pretty Cure standards.

@Hi_D actually, this isn’t the worst writing of any PreCure series, that dishonor goes to Wonderful PreCure. In anyway, this show has really struggled at times, particularly because Meroron is such an unlikable character; she’s clearly a girl with a massive sister complex and did whatever it took to get Punirun away from her best friend.

first precure episode I watched where the cures are already transformed at the start.

Cure Zukyoon and Cure Kiss transformation are both animated well.

Zakkuri does not even hide that he's watching precure performance video. I guess he's tougher to convert than Cutty.

and that's a big shock for Uta when her best friend mascot don't remember her at all.

looking forward to the picnic next week. ^^

I have never hated a Fairy more then I hate Meroron right now. I know they will redeem her but she is totally and utterly selfish at the moment.

Kiss and Zukyoon's transformation goes so HARD, seriously it's one of the best I've seen in a while.

I gotta say I'm shocked that Zukyoon and Kiss had their identities revealed to the other cures this soon; I thought they would drag it out for another episode or two, but I'm pretty glad that they didn't. I can't stress enough how much I dislike Meroron as a character, like she's so selfish and she's setting herself up for failure like how does she think all of this will work out for her?? Like seriously does she really think that trying to keep Purirun away from Uta and the rest of her friends is going to pan out well??? Because if so then NO. I can already see the fight between her and Purirun when she learns about what she's doing no matter the reason. That being said I thought the two's transformation scene was pretty nice. I wish they had their own separate ones but I do like the symbolism in them being together in one.

Unpopular opinion but I love Meroron, perhaps its her design that's just perfect to me that pulls some bias. The transformation scene is just beautiful. This plot line is actually super interesting to me. However, it's pretty unclear exactly what Meroron gave up in this vow as she seems pretty unchanged

I'm trying so hard to like Meroron to the point where I feel like I'm drowning in delusion or something. I'm praying that they get some kind of character development soon because I'd hate for a banger Precure design to belong to such an unlikable character...

@Takahito_Gira I got it. Self-Advertisement of a previous sentai Season with a pretty cure series where there are a lot of references to the current season.

@Hi_D You haven't watched Smile Pretty Cure and Go Princess Precure, have you? those are far worst than this series. 10 times worst. IMHO, you're too picky for something that is based on the Super Sentais and the Kamen Rider, those two IPs are not known for their "logicity". The Journalist also was there to remind the audience to watch Boonboomger if they didn't do it previously (I didn't, for example), that's what her purpose there was. Nothing else.

I've seen "Go! Princess...", which, like this show, is available legally on Crunchyroll (an important point), which "Smile..." isn't, so there's no way I could have seen it (and no, I did not watch the "Glitter Force" version). At least "Go! Princess..." didn't use the fairy assistants to make the Cures look stupid (not the way this show [Wonderful...] did, anyway), plus none of the fairy assistants selfishly want the others all to themselves, while trying to keep everyone else out.

Additionally, I don't appreciate the assumption that I have seen something that isn't legally available where I live. No currently airing Super Sentai series (in its original Japanese form) is legally available here (Shout! Studios' release only covers Fiveman to Dekaranger, and only Jetman to Hurricanger are available for online streaming). I only watch anime and tokusatsu through legal means, so there is no way that I could possibly pick up on any Super Sentai reference, let alone one to the show that was currently airing at that time, but wasn't (and still isn't) legally available where I live.

Either way, I still say the journalist was otherwise only there to emphasize the treatment the Cures were given in that episode. In addition, there could have, and should have been a better way to give Purirun and Meroron their Cure forms without taking dramatic shortcuts (which includes the whole Meroron drama almost overpowering the rest of the show), and without playing with the viewers' emotions. For these reasons, along with others, my post remains unchanged.

@Hi_D I'm forced to watch these shows with fansubs because there's no other way for me to do it, Toei doesn't give a fuck about releasing these shows officially in my country. See for example Kamen Rider Zeztz which only american$ and canadian$ can watch (with terrible subs, of all things). Also, in due time I pay for these shows in the only way I can (through merchandise, like the Kamen Rider Drive Rise Standard Figure that I bought ONLY to compensate the people who worked on the show and nothing else) so you can drop the beyond pathetic moralizing thing entirely. I don't remember what the Fairy assistant did in Go Princess Precure, all I remember was that it was amongst the most boring experiences I ever trudge through, a bunch of boring Mary Sues with zero relatability to speak of good for toddler girls and no one else doing stuff because reasens. At least they don't press the button on the Mary Sue thing this time around (models and billionaires daughters of models and billionaires having problems with not being as models and billionaires as their own parents...yaaaaaawhn, I have no idea what the hell passed in the mind of the hacky main writer of Go Princess, if he tried to channel Yawara: a Fashionable Judo Girl it was a wrong move because that series sucked ass to begin with), and I don't understand why it took so long for Toei to understand that Mary Sues suck like Gary Stues do. Meroron Drama...you mean Gai from Choujin Sentai Jetman and Buffa from Kamen Rider Geats drama? Meroron is 100% a rendition of Gai from Choujin Sentai Jetman sans the pink princess and the Bad Boy attitude of using other girls for her own ego, I love Choujin Sentai Jetman and Kamen Rider Geats, so I don't see a particular problem with her for now. Like I don't have problems with the Journalist being an advertisement for BoonBoomger, my problem are the episodes of the guy who wrote the worst tokusatsu episode I've seen to this day (episode 25 of Gozyuger) in Boonboombger, not an advert for the show in another show, on itself a Super Sentai/Kamen Rider with a topping of Magical Girls on it and with some sprinkles of the metal heroes for good measure.

Oh and Smile Pretty Cure was T E R R I B L E, almost unwatchable. But being written with the contribution of the inane hack who wrote the first Garo Series from 2005 it shouldn't suprise anybody that was terrible. No idea how in the friggin' hell Toei ever let this person - Yuji Kobayashi - who would be bested by an illiterate child in the writing department to write Smile AND write the Sailor Moon reboot fiasco project, like I have legit no idea how he was able to be the main writer of several Urutoraman series (maybe he has a friend in Bandai the way the other Kobayashi, Yasuzo, works only for virtue of her personal friend Toshiki Inoue?). It makes no friggin' sense, like it makes no sense for Shoji Yonemura to still be active in both the toku and anime field after writing Smile Pretty Cure. Being these shows mainly targeted at children doesn't excuse a writing as bad as Smile Pretty Cure, the kind of writing that luckily seems absent in this series at least until now.
