read the article more closely folks. . . there is a catch. well two.
1 theatrical release.
2 in Japanese with English sub.
no streaming on Crunchy, yet! anime movies in-theater are not popular nor profitable enough in the USA/CAN/MEX to get a nationwide every. single. theater. release, yet. so. somebody's gonna get the shaft.
INFORMAL POLL! quote me/respond etc.
everybody who has sat their butt AND BOUGHT A TICKET! YOU DID NOT SNEAK IN FOR FREE!!! in a theater seat and watched an officially released, legal, not bootlegged, or streamed off a grey-website, or somebody's disk thrown up on a screen via a digital projector violating the limited release ownership licensing laws in the following three countries... anime movie in the US, Canada, or Mexico in the past...
1 YEAR.
then 5 YEARS.
then 10 YEARS.
then 10+ YEARS.
also, include if you watched more than one anime movie in that timespan...
i can't remember the timespan and i'm not digging out my TV DVD/BR off the shelf to pluck the souvenir ticket stubs i've got stashed in the jewel cases... the TenSura movie was the last one i bought a ticket and watched in-theater, luckily it was local. i watched the two SAO Progressive movies in-theater... but i had to drive over an hour away from my house to find a theater showing the 2nd one. but the 1st one was local! LUCKY ME!!! and even with a 30+ year US otaku career? the 1st SAO Progressive movie, was the first one i had ever sat down in-theater to watch. EVER! ever. in my life. SAO Ordinal Scale was the first ever anime movie in a theater that was even remotely close to my house in my life... it was almost a 3 HOUR drive away, only showed ONE TIME A DAY, and that was the final showing that theater did per-day before they closed their doors for the night. so, drive 3h... add in 1h for Atlanta, Georgia traffic (that's where the theater was)... watch the movie... then drive 3h home.... nearabouts, i would have gotten home at 4AM!!! no. i was going to GET A FREAKING HOTEL ROOM 1 mile or so away from the theater... drive to the hotel, check in, then piddle and shop in the MALL where the theater was located, watch the movie, drive to the hotel, sleep, and go home the next day. but fun thing was, the PAID!!! VACATION DAYs 2 of them! i requested... just to go see that movie!?! were DENIED! so yeah, i wanted to see Ordinal Scale... BADLY! but nope. missed that one!
we ALL know an English Dub release of an anime movie in North America... sorry Mexico, would you guys get a Spanish subbed version with Japanese audio instead of an English sub/dub one? ...would be more palatable to the corporations that own 99% of the movie theaters in the US and Canada. because i double triple and quadruple checked when Funi-Roll released the TenSura and two SAO Progressive movies in the US... no more than TWO theater corporations 'leased' those movies. and neither corpo... universally released those movies in all their locations! for even 1 showing a day in 1 version sub or dub.
so unless Crunchy is going to make this Maid Dragon movie cheap as hell!!! to lease? i doubt it will be highly attractive to the theater corporations in North America. |
