| You’re not hyped about it maybe because you haven’t read the manga. The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity is a very popular & well-known romance manga, and people who’ve read it already know how good it is, so they’re obviously hyped about their favorite manga getting an adaptation. But can you really call it overhyped if you don’t know the story beforehand? Because if that’s the case, then a lot of other anime could be called overhyped too. alAnime that didn’t seem interesting in the first few episodes but still got a lot of hype just because manga readers already knew how good they were. |

| The answer lies on the third line in thread you started at Oshi no Ko S2. This is a romance series targeted for male audience. Of course they would get diabetes just by looking at Kaoruko. I haven't watched the anime yet due to Netflix's delay, but if the directing of Ep 1 was really that good, then it's an additional point from the boys. |

The premise that the guy looks scary from the outside and is "Wonderful" from the inside is overused as hell. What I liked was only the girl's design and nothing at all. |

| [Manga Reader][No Spoiler Below] With this logic, there are maybe 0.1% that can really hook you by the balls on the first episode. Go watch just the first episode of Frieren (just the first 24 mins, not the whole 4 episodes that we got at the same time when it aired), Gintama, Hunter x Hunter, Fruits Basket and the vast majority of anime. Few manga/anime really succeed in "hooking" you on the first episode, and they're doing it by relying on some gimmick/drama/shock value/something messed up about the story's world. A good example can be the Mystery genre where it can "hook" you at the start because of the desire to see how the mystery or because you already theory craft the solution. But here, we have a cozy and down to earth romance, light drama, slice of life show that prides itself (IMO) on portraying a genuine relationships (being it romantic or friendship) and where the attention to details makes the whole difference. If you boil it down, the story is not something never seen before, but it's done with so much care and passion by the author that it comes forth and you feel it, if you care to look for it. I'm a person that likes to dive deep and analyze how "realistic" a character is and behave in the context of the story, I derive a great amount of joy from it, and that's why I really like the manga. As any other show or piece of fiction, it's not for everyone, but it will be loved by many who like this kind of slow burn romance shows. And another reason is: CloverWorks is a top-notch studio and maybe the best choice for this show (the other similar choices would've been KyoAni or Doga Kobo), and I find it really rare that the combo Show-Studio is so spot on. I'm excited to finally see the show, I'm waiting for good subs (f*ck Netflix for their horrible release schedule). |
