To be fair, Shiki has every right to be angry here in this episode. He's fighting former comrades and they're pretty much just trying to survive at this point. This thing going on at Kyoto has been nothing but a disaster in these latest episodes.

Welcome to the reality of their world. This episode probably fueled Shiki's desire for revenge even more.

I'll give this anime some credit that it doesn't follow every formulaic step of shounen genre as I fear at first. But I still have a lot of doubt.

That's a nasty trojan horse from Tsubakiri. Who's gonna clean up that mess?

I liked how Shiki didn't really hesitate despite his qualms. Gotta do what you gotta do. And I mean, it's essentially just zombies, but in other series you would see the characters contemplating for too long.

But lol, this was probably the lamest excuse for not double checking if your enemy is actually dead. Some guys have it coming.

Alright episode, kinda slow in the middle.

Crazy that Yomogi wanted to use gas....

This episode was intense. It was more like watching an episode of the Walking Dead during the 1st half, really twisted ability that guy has. However, I'm still having a problem seeing their opponents all being portrayed as sadistic psychos. They need some better writing here.

Good episode, it just keeps getting better
Another thing I wanted to comment on, I didn't know that Tougen Anki was so popular, from what I read on Anime News Network, the first episode of Tougen Anki surpassed One Piece's viewership. Furthermore, it seems that it became top 1 on Netflix in Japan and is always in the top 10 worldwide on Netflix (in my country, for example, it is always in the top 6 in the first few days). I was surprised because Netflix has other anime this season that had much more marketing, like Sakamoto Days, The Summer Hikaru Died and One Piece, And only Dandadan and tougen anki managed to stay in the world top 10. From what I've seen, the most watched anime on Netflix is Naruto with 40 million views, but Naruto has at least 700 episodes, Tougen anki with only 4 episodes already has more than 2 million views. Imagine if it had had the marketing that Gachiakuta had, for example. It would have been much more successful. I just don't know if that reflects on the sales of the original material.

I mean, Shiki has a point; classically in the fairy tale, Momotaro is the good guy and yet here are his descendants acting like serial killers and war criminals

When will we find out the number of episodes this anime has? It passed some time since the launch and we don’t even know it yet.

I got a feeling that Tougen Anki is similar to JJK. There is also a character who uses his own blood as main weapon.

@Kai200X

I think he's feeling bad about re-killing the dead, not that they're his own.

It is considered distasteful to mess with the dead in most cultures, so that's what the MC was feeling. You don't have to know the dead personally to feel terrible about it.

To show his sensitive side, the girl was enough. I liked that interaction, made him feel less retarded considering his character so far has been just yelling loudly like typical Shounen MC. Maybe they should've written the character to be smarter, not loud and obnoxious, it would've helped me not hate the first few episodes instantly.

I was hoping Mudano would resist the explosion and attack those two Momotaros to keep them from going to the Oni's base, but I guess he's not invencible, I just hope he can recover and go back to help

They spent almost the entire episode with MC crying. The animation keeps getting worse and worse. This adaptation is really poor, it’s even worse than Sakaflop Days. Just go read the manga

I understand shiki’s confusion with the whole ‘is this our enemy, is it supposed to be momotaro?’ Since he did pretty much kill a bunch of ppl with his blood aswell, I like that he’s questioning his morals, I hope it does help and develop his character deeper than a loud jock

These oni are weak...

Just a single (duo) momotaro wreaking this much havoc...

And wassup with sensei, dude really disappointed, The show just closing to stick to 5/10 overall...

Sure atleast MC ain't following your generic formula for the most part, but with every other thing the show is sticking with the formula and it ain't amounting to much

Can't help but nitpick this show.

Shiki's gun apparently has has unlimited ammo.

They showed Shiki shooting the mom 3 separate times this episode. Flashbacks of things literally happening in the same episode multiple times. Lol.

Mudano and the group of throwaway onis literally just standing there while girl with huge momos uses her skill to entrap them.

"Senpai, we should go confirm they're dead." "No thanks, I'll get dirty." This surely won't come back to bite them in ass.

damn, this has to be the slowest ep I've ever seen in my life fs, it was boring and slow, I don't hate the show i really I love it but this ep and the last one are boring it feels this the level of the anime

and damn tsubakiri is really crazy, he's so strong, mad, sadistic, does he's tests on humans, and really despise oni

Mai really is a great EX of how oni lives when he's scared of momotaro like damn she wasn't even going to school and she have seen her parents die twice with one being like zombie

3 / 5 really a lot of events but I'm feeling bored in the eps

Another intense episode, that wasn't afraid of showing what Momotarou really do to Oni. That commander really is ruthless, and that little girl, Mei, not only had to discover her parents were dead when she saw their corpses, but also watch them be killed again.
And I like the fact the anime highlighted how messed up this all is, with Shiki growing hatred against Momotarou. I wonder if the anime is always only to paint the Momotarou as the bad guys, because at the start of the anime, when Shiki's dad died, it was hinted that the Oni aren't any good either...

Anyways, I'm impressed Shiki's gun had so many bullets. Didn't really understand if the blood bullets Mudano talked about were already predetermined, or if the gun just uses Shiki's blood for the bullets. In terms of action though, nothing too crazy happened this episode, but we got to know what's the abillity of the guy with the glasses and green hair, that no one treats by his name, so I don't know it either. That radar abillity seems really cool though.

Also, Mudano isn't in a good condition at all, Yomogi's abillity seems quite OP, letting them just jailed like that, and then using the Ugly as a bomb. Curious that this barrier didn't contain the explosion.

And also, it seems Shiki is a "special" Oni. Although this is a really common mark in Shounen anime, it's understandable, the main character needs to be special in any way, right? And it's not like this wasn't hinted before, since we saw Mudano was surprised by the amount of power he has already. I just wonder if the fact that he is "special" as anything to do with the fact that he was raised by a Momotarou. I'm still curious to get this backstory, that was only briefly shown in the 1st episode.

Anyways, I enjoyed the episode, and this cour really is doing a good job to showcase what this anime can become in the future.

Also, I cannot stress enough how AMAZING the opening is, it has been on repeat ever since it came out. And the ending is great too!

Edit: Forgot to mention, but the whole segment of Shiki just being frustrated towards the situation and how unfair it was for Mei to experience that was really interesting, and the fact he promised Mei that he would make it so that she wouldn't have to worry was really sweet. I wonder if she's going to make another appearance in the anime later on, after this arc is over. The they dealt with his dillema of hesitating on killing those corpses was a bit different than what Shounen's usually do. Shiki growing from having heroes as his idol, and now, instead of being a hero, he decides to become a villain was also interesting.
Also, this episode solved a problem some people had in the 1st episode, that was related to the fact that Shiki had guns in his room, and in this episode was revealed they were just models, and not real guns, which honestly was my guess ever since the beginning.

I didn't know the anime has been making those numbers. Here on MAL isn't blowing up that much certainly, but I did notice the company behind this adaptation is promoting this anime quite a lot, on Youtube for example they make a lot of posts and shorts promoting the anime. Now I'm curious to see if the sales from the original material are going to reflect that.

Yeah this episode solidified this show for me man Shiki’s outburst as to why the Momotaro are the bad guy when they’re supposed to be the good ppl really hit me bro bc that’s exactly what I’ve been asking since I started watching this show bc aren’t they the good guys? + that girl losing her parents and losing all light from her eyes hurt me man hopefully Shiki adopts her😣😣😣☹️😣😣

Yeah that Momotaro dude is fucking messed like I mean he’s pissing me off solely bc bro hasn’t lost yet man like he got the strength to back up his craziness😭

I wonder what’s happened to Mudano, broski better come back and not go out sorry like this

Tsubakiri's "present" by infiltrating the Oni Agency with the controllable corpses brought into the Support Unit, it's quite the low-brow unexpected attack that permeates all of the Agency's corners. That said, Shiki having no choice but to shoot Mei's mother dead to stop her strangulation on him and the others thanks to Mudano's gun that came in handy, it's the only advice worth to stop the corpses as much as possible. However, that also exposes their hiding spot, that double it with Yomogi's barrier and the manufactured Ugly as a weaponry, Mudano and the others being taken down in one fell swoop, is not a good sign at all.

To Mei, her foreshadowing that a day like this would come and be fine with what happened to her parents, Shiki clearly can't take this lying down, and resolves to be the hero against the villains in their way. And someone like Juji Yusurube's Blood Eclipse Release being able to sense with his sonar radar, it pays to heed advise since the Momotaro have pinpointed the Support Unit's location for their flashy introduction.

Shiki will soon get his tick down bad though...
