This is it as My Hero Academia, after 10 years, will finish with one last cour. From the look of things given that Blue Miburo will start early that this season in its timeslot on December 20, this season will only be 11 episodes long. The first episode should have been out about five hours ago at the time of writing, but given the problems CR is having that it's not up at this time.

After a long delay, it's finally up on Crunchyroll. Episode 160 Where things left off, All Might was getting ready to fight against the rejuvinated All for One after he escaped Tartarus. As much of his Quirk power has diminished, All Might wears armor and goes all out seeing that this is his last battle no matter what happens. While All Might dodges all of All for One's attacks, he gets cornered. While that's going on, Kunieda takes down Fat Gum and his team, and is about to take Aoyama down as well. But Aoyama launches a surprise attack with Toru sneaking up behind Kunieda to reflect the laser land a direct hit on Kunieda to take him down. And back to All Might's battle, All Might has Mr. Shigaraki right where he wants him to unleash Can't Stop Twinkling from the sky, but it overheats and breaks before it could defeat him. But Stain comes to the rescue as he has defected to the heroes. This episode has a much different feel from the rest of the series going to show that this is the final battle, and it has the intensity to match it.

All Might goes all out against All for One, using mechanical tools to replicate the Quirks of the students of Class 1-A. The more damage All for One receives, the faster his body regresses to repair the damage, and soon his body is glowing as All Might's tools run out of power. But Stain shows up to freeze All for One in place. Meanwhile, Aoyama is pinned down by Kunieda, but he unleashes laser blasts in every direction, and Hagakure redirects them from behind Kunieda to incapacitate him.

Quite a heated start for the final season. The entire time I was yelling in my brain, "Where the heck is Stain???" xD My only nitpick was the show feeling the need to have All Might explain his trap for AFO. The fight was already so intense that those details didn't matter-- it just took some momentum away from the emotions and intensity that the battle and dialogue between All Might and AFO had already built up. They finally turned John Cena Girl visible now. Most of the waifus did already play their parts so, I guess Toru is forced to fill that role for now. xD That fight with Kunieda could have been an episode in itself, or at least half of one. Did it happen on the Manga or was it really like that? After 7 seasons, I'm definitely watching this to the end. (I only binged the first 3 or 4 seasons around the 2020s though xD)

Episode 161 All for One expels all the blood in his body, and then he pulverizes Stain and sends All Might crashing to the ground. He tries to bring Tomura to him, but Tomura won't allow him to interfere with his battle with Midoriya. So instead, he brings All Might's broken body there, to try and break Midoriya's spirit. All Might tries to take All for One out with him, but All for One nips that plan in the bud. Just as he's about to end All Might's life, Bakugo gets back on his feet.

Episode 161 And with that, All Might has been defeated as Stain was easily dealt with by the powered-up All For One, and he's still alive thanks to Hercules protecting him with its last bit of power. Nevertheless, the battle reaches a critical point as Tomura has destroyed the Coffin's floating mechanism and he's about to come into contact with his father. But just when things are getting bleak, Bakugo is back in the battle. And so, the final boss is emerging, and Izuku will need to go way beyond now. Pretty dramatic scene that was so see All Might going down, but he has done all he could, and it's up to Izuku to win this.

REALLY??!! I wait so long for Stain... then he dies immediately??? xD I do like how Stain, Gentle Criminal, and the X-66 jet fighters was utilized for this scene. They showed up one after another, like multiple bursts of last hopes, but kept getting mercilessly swatted by AFO, before he kills the biggest symbol of hope there is. But that episode closer might've brought that hope back to life. Welcome back... Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight!!!

Episode 162 Midoriya slingshots Bakugo straight to All Might, and he gets him out of harm's way. All for One decides that Bakugo isn't worth his time, but Bakugo is not going to let him have his way. All for One gets riled up at Bakugo's persistence, and he soon realizes why: because it reminds him of One for All's second wielder.

Episode 162 All Might is down, but the heroes are far from out as All for One thinks he has sucked out any last shred of hope the heroes had. But in comes Bakugo to the rescue as Edge Shot managed to patch him up enough to keep going, and he takes a shot at All for One as he uses his power to travel fast enough to rescue the exhausted All Might. All while Izuku is doing what he can to make sure Tomura doesn't fuse with All for One. But Izuku might have no choice but to tap into the power of the second wielder, which could put an end to him. The drama continues as there's no holding back with this being the final battle to decide everything.

Episode 163 All for One's backstory is explained as he was born with meta power but used it in a way so that he would kill anybody and steal their Quirk as he would kill his mother shortly after birth. The only person who kept him in check was his younger brother Yoichi, who was thought to be Quirkless, but actually had one whose use was to transfer a Quirk to another person. It would end up with a guy named Kudo, which ends up becoming One for All. So after all that, the final battle against All for One concludes with Bakugo going all-out to land a point blank hit on him, and then finishing him off in his baby form just before he collapses as well. Quite a dramatic way to finish off this fight, and Bakugo said it best when he said it was our story rather than his as All for One said.

The first half of this episode goes through All for One's backstory. Even in his mother's womb, he desired to take everything for himself, and as a result, his mother died during childbirth. All for One's brother, who he dubbed Yoichi, tried to set him on a straighter path in life, but Yoichi was ultimately killed by his brother when he tried to escape with the man who would become One for All's second wielder. Back in the present, All for One uses everything he's got to try to propel himself forward, but Bakugo manages to stop him in his tracks, landing a massive explosion in his face. All for One's body reverts to a baby, and all his stolen Quirks vanish into the ether. Bakugo stops All for One's last desperate attack, and the villain finally fades into nothingness.

It's a bit of a bummer that it wasn't One For All itself (All Might or Deku) that gets to end All For One, but it was still quite satisfying to see his demise. Could've been more punishing considering the things he have done but, I'll take it. Not really excited about going back to Shigaraki. But I assume there's still a thing with Kurogiri and his friends: Eraser Head and Present Mic, so, I still have something to look forward to.

Episode 164 The battle takes a turn when Tomura takes One for All's fourth wielder, and Danger Sense with him. But even with Midoriya on the ropes again, he refuses to stop trying to get through to Tomura, as he employs a measure to combat against Tomura's newly acquired ability. Then the second wielder comes up with a radical plan: to force all the wielders' vestiges into Tomura's mind and attack him from within. Of course, this effectively means Midoriya will lose One for All entirely, but he's more than willing to give it up at this point.

Episode 164 Now that Mr. Shigaraki has been dealt with, all that's left is Tomura, and things take quite the turn when he loots Danger Sense from the 4th wielder. Even though Izuku lost a critical piece of his arsenal, Izuku isn't giving up. To counteract his Danger Sense now in enemy hands, he resorts to using the 2nd wielder's power knowing that he will lose One For All once the battle is over. So Izuku employs the plan the other wielders have come up with to shove it straight into Tomura's mind. Izuku is risking it all knowing that it's all over if they are defeated.

Episode 165 The plan to attack Tomura's mind involves applying the transfer as soon as Tomura is attacked knowing that he can quickly regenerate that would reject the vestiges. As he's attacking Tomura, he sees memories of Tomura's past as En made it into him while the others are rejected. While that's happening, UA crashes, but thanks to Cementoss and Gentle, everybody is able to evacuate. Eri tries to help out by using Rewind on Eraser Head, but it hasn't charged up enough. And then Izuku finally breaks through the barricade of fingers and finds himself in Tomura's memories as they were quite unpleasant. This battle sure has had its fair share of twists and turns, and now the moment to decide the battle is fast approaching.

Midoriya only has a short window to transfer the vestiges into Tomura's mind once an attack lands before his body regenerates. However, when One for All's second wielder gets through, Tomura soon gets the feeling that taking Midoriya's hits is bad news, and he tries to stop the transfer. The next big hit repels everyone except the sixth wielder. As the vestiges manage to enter Tomura's mind, both his and Midoriya's memories start to merge and take shape. Meanwhile, the U.A. Coffin crash lands, and everyone evacuates. All eyes are now on Midoriya's fight and praying for his victory, though some people, like Eri, want to do more than just watch. In the end, Midoriya manages to break through and transfer every vestige except the seventh user, Nana, and the two find themselves deep within Tomura's memories. Now Nana is about to see what she couldn't before: how her son took out his feelings of being betrayed on her grandson.

Episode 166 Once Nana finds out how her son felt about her, she finally intervenes and stops him from slapping her grandson. As she fades away, Midoriya grapples with Tomura's young self to get his feelings through, and while Midoriya does succeed at the cost of his arms, Tomura won't stop being a villain, because even villains need heroes. However, All for One's consciousness actually surfaces again, and drops several bombshells on Tomura to plunge him into despair again. The most notable one is that Tomura's Quirk...isn't even his own; All for One stole his original Quirk and planted Decay in him in its place. The plan to use One for All to smash All for One to pieces seems to have actually had the opposite effect, as All for One has taken control of Tomura's body. But just as he's about to attack Midoriya, Aizawa and the other Class 1-A students show up to help. Aizawa and Present Mic finally got through to Kurogiri, and after taking down the last bastion of villain resistance, he gathered all the students to help Midoriya. Plus, he brought a piece of Eri's horn to restore Midoriya's arms. The final battle is about to reach its climax.

Okay! That's a needed gear switch. I was already a bit bummed that AFO's defeat wasn't poetically through the hands of OFA, but turns out, I was just being too impatient. Also, I can now feel sympathy towards Shigaraki, now that it's revealed that every single detail in his dark past has been manipulated by AFO, part by part, and directly at that. One of my biggest issues with Deku trying to 'reach' Shigaraki was that his edgy, rebellious, teen angst attitude has already resulted into multiple suffering, sorrow, and destruction-- really hard to feel pity towards an evil teenager who wants to bring suffering to the world, because the world did it to them. But now that it's revealed that every single detail of his dark past was orchestrated by AFO, to the very tiniest detail, especially him getting the 'Decay' quirk, it makes him an unaware experimental subject of AFO, groomed to be a hateful monster, and a future replacement vessel. All of the things he did and believed, he didn't really choose-- he only ended up doing so because a devil forcefully directed his entire life; He effectively didn't have a life of his own. Now, my only worry is that the show will stretch the heck out of the remaining 4 episodes (if the reports are true that it's gonna be just a 11-episode run). I hope they can keep it really intense and engaging from this point on.

Episode 166 As it turns out, Mr. Shigaraki schemed all of this up as he used All For One to steal Tenko's original Quirk and secretly give him Decay, the Quirk that killed his family and caused him to descend down the path of darkness he ended up going on. Realizing the truth about how everything happened, Izuku gets his feeling through, but in doing so he loses his arms in the process. But even so Tomura is continuing down his path of the villain as All For One still has a stranglehold on his body. But just as he was about to end Izuku, Class 1-A springs into action thanks to Aizawa using Kurogiri to get everybody there, and Eri gives her horn to Aizawa that restores Izuku's arms. So Tomura was simply a puppet for Mr. Shigaraki all along here as the father really made a mess of things by toying with his feelings like that. But it's all coming to an end with the battle reaching its climax now that all the pieces are in place to do so.

Episode 167 All the heroes have gathered thanks to Kurogiri's warp being utilized and they all throw their support around Izuku as they clear a pathway for him to reach All For One. For those who didn't fight to clear a pathway, they cheer on Izuku. And then Bakugo comes in with help from Shoto to launch him directly into Tomura himself to deliver the final blow as he finally reaches out to Tomura, telling him where he went wrong and Izuku puts everything into one final smash to defeat All For One once and for all to win the final battle. Quite a lot went into that final battle, and with that the final boss is defeated. But there are still quite a lot of loose ends left to tie up.

Everyone still capable of fighting has come for one final push, but All for One refuses to makes things easy for them. Midoriya charges for him while everyone else clears a path for him, but one attack isn't enough, as All for One tries to transfer himself to another person. But Kurogiri and Bakugo stop All for One's final efforts, and Midoriya puts his all into one last punch, which awakens the vestiges that were transferred. All for One is shattered from inside and out. Now that the battle is over, there's a lot of recovery efforts to deal with.

Credits where credits is due; That got me teary eyed and having goosebumps T-T Camaraderie moments really gets to me easily when done well. Of course, it's still as cheesy as it can be: Entities that was supposed to have vanished/died were actually still alive (The previous OFA owners and the Star Pilots), everyone who were supposed to be on their last gas and lying in the hospital showed back up (Todoroki father and son, and Bakugo), and those hit by the gigantic Doc Ock tentacles seemingly survived just fine. They really wanted a positive, feel good moment, and I won't even complain anymore; that was indeed a heart-warming moment. So, is it safe to say that we basically saw the conclusion of the battle already, and are now simply waiting for a grand 'clear blue sky' closure moment?

Episode 168 Bakugo's got a long road to recovery ahead, as his arm might not be the same again. It's ironic that Bakugo's body is wracked like this, after all the warnings Midoriya was given about overusing his Quirk. Speaking of which, One for All is gone, so Midoriya's Quirkless again. After the third-years' graduation ceremony, Aoyama leaves U.A., and Shinso takes his place in the class. Finally, Todoroki and his family pay a visit to Toya, who doesn't have much long to live after the battle ended. Endeavor has retired from hero work, and he plans to visit his estranged son every day until Toya passes. And Hawks is the new president of the Public Safety Commission.

MHA kind of jumped the shark a few seasons ago, and is limping to the end, and this final season has not been all that great, but at least they didn't do something stupid like let Shigaraki live. The whole power of friendship final fight was way too trite though

@HOOfan_1 I personally would have preferred something that would really raise the stakes to something that was truly life or death. My thought would be All for One and Decay merging to form a completely new Quirk, called All for None, one hellbent solely on annihilation, and it would proceed to start sucking everything around it into sheer nothingness. A true Quirk Singularity, if you will.

Episode 168 Now that the final battle is over with the heroes emerging victorious, it's time to recover and for rebuilding to start as the League of Villains did quite a large amount of damage all over Japan. Seeing that the heroes went all-out in their battle that for some this is their last act as a hero as Bakugo might not be able to fight again with the shape that his arm is in, Izuku no longer has One For All, All Might has been on borrowed time, and Endeavor is too banged up to continue doing hero work. And speaking of which, the family is finally a real family, though Toya won't be with them for much longer, but they make their peace with each other, all while Endeavor is retiring to focus on being a father, which includes being with Toya in his final days. And then the school year ends with the third years graduating with Aoyama deciding to drop out of UA, and Shinso joins the class in his place for their senior year. So with that, the final arc begins with two more episodes left to go.

Episode 169 The epilogue continues as now the focus shifts to the surviving villains. First, there's Gentle and La Brava who sided with the heroes in the final battle and they have been pardoned, and while Nagant is free to leave prison, she decides to stay put for the time being. Then Izuku interrogates Spinner to learn more about Tomura and why Spinner joined the League of Villains, and Spinner felt like an outcast being a lizardman and Tomura showed him the way. And Overhaul is another survivor who remains in prison. After that, it's back to UA as Class A is helping out with rebuilding Japan using their Quirks to facilitate and accelerate the rebuild. In spite of everything that happened, Ochaco is in an unusually good mood, but it was just a facade as in truth Himiko's death hit her really hard. Izuku finds her and has to console her as he's in the same boat after learning that Tomura was being manipulated by his sinister adopted father. Soon afterwards, the class follows to find her, and they throw a farewell party for Aoyama. This is an episode of reflections here as everybody has been through a lot, and everybody realizes that even though they were villains, they were still people. One more episode left to go as this ten-year journey comes to an end next week.

Midoriya passes on Tomura's final message to Spinner, and after breaking down in tears, Spinner decides to write a biography on Tomura. Overhaul gets a surprise as his former boss pays him a visit to prison. Later, Midoriya and his classmates help with reconstruction work. Uraraka is acting like her usual cheerful self around everyone, but deep down, she's a wreck after Himiko sacrificing herself to save her life. She goes somewhere she can be alone to cry out, but Midoriya manages to find and console her.

Smart move by Lady Nagant; Why would she rush going back to a currently ruined outside world, especially as an ex-con that is like to struggle finding livelihood, when she could just live off of people's taxes. xD I would've hoped for Chisaki's break down moment with his boss to be more gut-wrenching, but at least they spared him some screentime. Are they hinting on a new series or a movie with that strange character they've shown by the end of the episode, or is it just one of those "the heroes' story goes on" thing?

Tomura liked to play video games...well, I guess he was an okay guy after all....Hitler wanted to become an artist.... Trying to make it seem like killing Tomura was some sort of tragedy, or he was just misunderstood, or the whole world was against him from the beginning got so old...it kind of ruined the last few seasons of MHA. He was a mass murderer, he was trying to commit genocide...of course killing him was the right thing to do.

@HOOfan_1 Highly agree. It's one of the lowlights of this finale season, and the previous one, imo. He did feel quite sympathetic when it was revealed that AFO basically pulled full Truman Show on every single detail of his life, but that doesn't exactly lessen the horrific sins he committed on his own afterwards. It was fine painting him as a victim of premeditated circumstance-- cuz he was, but not as an admirable revolutionary anti-hero leader. They really didn't do a great job with the Deku/Shigaraki and Ochaco/Toga 'reach out' aspect of the story-- it felt more narcissistic than sympathetic. The Todoroki Family situation with Dabi was much better in an empathetic sense, with Dabi reasonably ending up as a villain due to his circumstances with his asshole Hero father.

While things could have been done better, I certainly get where they were going there when it comes to Izuku and Tomura. Of course, everything was all orchestrated by Tomura's poor excuse of a human being that was his adopted father who used his Quirk to cultivate the GOAT of villains. What they should have mentioned from Izuku's perspective is that Tomura deserved to live his life out as Tenko Shimamura, the grandson of a legendary hero, and not as the psychopath Tomura Shigaraki that he ended up becoming thanks to One For All's calculated scheme where he got broken beyond repair and unknowingly become just a thing for his adopted father to become. Instead, Izuku just views Tomura as a person who has a story to tell that he trusts Spinner to write about as I felt it should have been more about how One For All manipulated him more than anything. So with that, there's one more episode left, and there's certainly a great possibility for a sequel series featuring a new set of main characters knowing what's coming.

Episode 170 (Finale) And now, the grand finale to put the finishing touches on this series. Izuku is now a teacher at UA using his experience to help others become heroes, especially outcasts seeing that he used to be one, like Koki. As for what happened after the war, Class A has a normal school year, and then everybody graduates with Tenya being the valedictorian. So 8 years since Class A's graduation, the heroes are doing a wide range of activities now that most of the villains are gone, and while they are all doing well, Bakugo still hasn't changed. And with Izuku back to being Quirkless again, he's using his experience to help bring out everybody's full potential, but thanks to technology that Izuku can go back into action when the need arises. And thus, it ends with a glimpse into the future and what became of Class A after they graduated as they have all gone off to become accomplished heroes in their own way. And with that, this series reaches the end, but the franchise is still going on with Vigilantes continuing going to show that heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Final Thoughts This great finish is the result of all that great buildup from the previous seasons, and it pays off in a big way with great action and a drama-filled sequence that goes to show that it saved its best for last. Seeing that it could fit everything neatly into just 11 episodes that the story was well-paced and left nothing off the table. The production values went beyond for this season, all while the show was well-paced and nicely written. They could have handled the background stories of the villains better this season, but for the most part it accomplished what it set out to do, and accomplish it does. And to get a detailed epilogue is also a plus as well when for most shows it's pretty quick. So in the end, it's a fitting way to end it all. Grade: A+ (10/10) Looking back on this series, here are the grades I gave to each of the previous seasons: Season 1: A (9/10), Season 2: A+ (10/10), Season 3: A+ (10/10), Season 4: A- (9/10) Season 5: B- (7/10), Season 6: A+ (10/10), Season 7: A (9/10) In general, seasons 2, 3, 6, and 8 were top-notch stuff with season 6, the Paranormal Liberation War and aftermath arcs, being where this show was at its best. The UA sports festival was my favorite arc, while the third season had that epic battle between All Might and All For One that was the highlight of the first half. Season 5 was easily the worst as it served largely as a long setup for the things that came after, and while it did its job, it was a grind to get through, though the My Villain Academia arc at the end was the one redeeming quality about it. And thus, it ends with a great battle to finish it, and a well thought-out story to wrap things up.

7.5/10. To summarize my issues with this season: 1) AFO's demise didn't feel as satisfyingly horrific for all the things he did for a long LONG time 2) The handling of the"saving" Shigaraki part, or at least getting sympathy for his victim/manipulated side, was just never executed well since day one 3) The FINAL SEASON basically ended in episode 8; The epilogue took way too long and stretched out. Could've been at most 2 episodes of Epilogue. Thoughts on the entire series: I remember disliking S1 a lot due to Deku being oh so overly crybaby-- necessary as it may be. But staying for S2 hooked me in since the characters' quality jumped significantly. S4 is my favorite season with Chisaki being a full on antagonist-- no sympathetic backstories or reasonable causes, just pure selfish goals and ideals. S6 and S7 were basically the main events of the series were the most action-packed (I just bumped my ratings for both from 7 to 8-- I think I got irritated by their respective 2nd cour's fillers/stretching out at the time of watching). Frankly, I'm not quite satisfied with this finale, and heck, I'm not even having that impactful feeling of a long-running series ending, still. But I'm just gonna focus on the positives-- it's done now, it had a great decade-long run, and I've enjoyed it for years. Appreciate this for existing, and being a huge part of my return to watching Anime.

GridironOtaku said: Exactly. They should've put more emphasis on what Shigaraki's life could've been, had his life not been totally manipulated by AFO. But instead, they made him proudly embrace his villain persona that AFO groomed him to be, like it was his own dream, being looked up to by Spinner and the rest. It contradicts with the idea of Deku having to save him from the darkness, when he basically embraced it until the end. And yeah, they've done a bad job establishing that he had a connection to a former OFA owner-- I've actually forgotten that he's related to Nana Shimura until this final season reminded me. xD |

An old lady lends out a hand to a boy who stumbles out of a dark alley. The old lady thinks back to when she didn't do the same thing years ago. Unbeknownst to her, the boy she didn't lend out her hand to grew up to become Tomura Shigaraki. Midoriya and his classmates graduate and go on to live productive lives in their own right, with Midoriya himself becoming a teacher. But All Might has one last present to give to him, a power suit so he can leap into the fray with his friends like before.

Well..those last 2 episodes should have been combined. I am trying to determine if this show jumped the shark for me with Gentle Criminal, or before that, but it definitely took a nose dive in the later seasons. It went full shonen trope nonsense towards the end. I gave the first 3 seasons 8s or 9s, after than, nothing above a 7...and the final season gets a 6/10 from me, just like season 5

HOOfan_1 said: Honestly, I don't even remember anything from that arc, aside from them fighting above rooves of houses or something like that. I also thought that was just an OVA until a few days ago.I am trying to determine if this show jumped the shark for me with Gentle Criminal, or before that |

Well, the end is fully here. My Hero Academia had a lot of ups and downs; a lot of defining moments and some questionable story decisions. This gets an honorary 10 from me. It adapted the end well and MHA as a whole has been very important to me in my life. Now we just wait for the inevitable sequel.
Controversial opinions toku>anime SnK was always overrated and the ending is unparalleled trash One Piece is a masterpiece MHA is the best superhero comic on the market Rush is the greatest rock band of all time

Hold your horses, everyone. It looks like it's not over just yet. There's going to be one more episode that adapts that bonus chapter in the final volume on May 2.
