I'm lazy, and never watched the original version, so I want to know what has changed here. One thing I know is the addition of technology, like Captain Tsubasa, and Hell Teacher Nube (2025).

I also only watched the remake so far but I'm interested in watching the original for that very reason. The show must be quite different based of how much they donis connected to modern technology in the remake.

@uselessDM The show so far has been pretty nostalgic for me (even though this one is a remake, the old feeling is still there) as it reminds me of times I used to watch old anime in my childhood, such as Kinnikuman, Captain Tsubasa, etc.

The old one has far better and charming art, like for example, women don't look like men. Old one is also goofier and more cartoony, the girls are more clumsy, and is like they stumble into success with their heists.

@FreedomKME I will watch the classic, it's on the TMS YouTube Channel. And it's free, so why not?

@mastder actually, I read this forum page, but I mean like storywise, like how the heists were going on in the original, etc. I'm not that lazy, I just couldn't find the thing I wanted.

Here are few points I feel differ the original and new version after 3 episodes. 1. 2025 version has much faster pace, its heist after heist, with little interactions between characters to fill in the time. Original mostly is one heist per episode. 2. 2025 version heists are mostly hightech break-in, original heists are mostly distraction + undercover, sisters didnt face the police until much later, and were all under different disguise 3. 2025 version portrait sisters just as art thieves, original had hints everywhere sisters were secretly rich & influential.

| The '81-'85' manga is the original that both the 1st anime and the new 2nd anime are based on. The manga was of course highly successful and influential, but Tsukasa-sensei has called it a practice manga in hindsight. There are various notable sudden shifts in tone or essentially retcons as the manga progresses. For example, in the manga it's only Toshio at first who is quickly joined by Asatani. Hirano, Takeuchi, and Unno all joined later. Shirai isn't in the manga at all. Similarly, there were no hints that the Kisugi sisters were rich till quite a bit later after Nagaishi joins the manga cast, and even then not immediately. Presumably Tsukasa-sensei made things up along the way and continued the threads that worked. The reason the Kisugi sisters steal wasn't brought up till quite a bit later either. The 1st anime didn't have Hirano, Takeuchi, or Unno at all. So seeing them in animation now is quite fun for me personally. Similarly, Kamiya is in the manga but didn't appear in the 1st anime. Seeing the Kisugi sisters with smartphones in the 2nd anime is always jarring to me personally. But overall the 2nd anime is quite fun and charming. I enjoy seeing some characters from the manga come to live that were missing in the 1st anime. Oh yeah, the Kisugi sisters' allure was much more of a focus in the manga (though deliberately no panty shots) and the 1st anime. It wasn't the focus, but they didn't shy away from showing the girls' fantastic derrières for example. The 2nd anime feels like it's deliberately very tame outside of the OP and the ED and I think it's worse for it because the sex appeal of Cat's♥Eye is part of the charm. Similarly, Kamiya in the manga makes comments about Hitomi's appearance or slaps her butt before running out of the cafe to her shouts and throwing things after him, and the 2nd time he tries that after Cat's♥Eye got him back, Hitomi guards her butt with a frying pan and he hurts his hand Perhaps most jarring is that in the first episode when Hitomi avoids the laser defense system. In both the manga and the 1st anime, they fire a rope to the other side close to the ground to allow Hitomi to stay below the lasers without touching the ground (which has an electric current going through it). And while not oggling it like in more ecchi focused manga or anime, it does provide a nice view of her derrière from various angles. In the 2nd anime, she jumps over it and is out of frame for most of the jump. | @DDR1327 Well, thanks for your comment, well, these are some changes that I felt and noticed myself, like the faster pacing that is really bad, even though I hate slow, badly paced series like one of my favorites, One Piece. This is so much fast, like bad fast. I wish they had made the remake happen in the 80s; a lot of stuff doesn't make any sense.(or much sense) I don't know about the third point, since I still haven't seen the original yet. but with all these points, I still like this remake; it is something of a guilty pleasure for me. |

@NyaanyaaMewmew Thanks for the write up. Seems like this one is a pretty easy skip. The original 1980s Anime looks better and has fan service, and if you want the full authentic experience you should just read the manga. I don't see a point in having three out of four of your main cast in a heist show be girls if you're not going to do fan service lol

I only watched a few episodes of the first anime, because I got caught up in other stuff, but it's definitely better looking and has a more adult vibe to it. This one is very bubblegum in its artistic direction, and the animation is subpar for the times.

The 2nd anime feels like it's deliberately very tame outside of the OP and the ED and I think it's worse for it because the sex appeal of Cat's♥Eye is part of the charm. Similarly, Kamiya in the manga makes comments about Hitomi's appearance or
slaps her butt before running out of the cafe to her shouts and throwing things after him, and the 2nd time he tries that after Cat's♥Eye got him back, Hitomi guards her butt with a frying pan and he hurts his hand
Perhaps most jarring is that in the first episode when Hitomi avoids the laser defense system.

I'd say the heists are a fairly faithful adaption for contemporary tech and minus the fanservice.

I wouldn't go so far as to say they look like men, but yeah I agree the characters look a lot better in the 1st anime. I find only the 2nd anime ED really matches it.
@NyaanyaaMewmew What about the relationship between Utsumi and the Kisugi girls? especially the romance of Utsumi and Hitomi and also the rivalry between them as police and thief, is that better in the 2nd anime or removed for pacing and action sake?
