I came here to check out the one-shot before the serialization starts. I don't usually read RPG-esque manga featuring skills, demon lords, and heroes, but since this is Shōnen Jump, I figured it at least won't be trash. And I was right: the characters had personalities, the art was all right, and the story feels like it can stand on its own without being a rehash of tropes.

I think the main hurdle the serialization will have to overcome is keeping the characters interesting. The dark lord and hero roles will surely wear off after a few chapters of cohabitation, right?

Both Asuka and the Dark Lord have some interesting personality traits, but this one-shot did not characterize them to the potential extent – backstories, motivations, etc. were only lightly touched on, and their interactions weren't that complex either. So, I look forward to seeing the serialization expand on them both. I also wonder if Eiri will come back in the main serialization, since she seems like a fun way to spice up the manga further.

Overall, this was a solid one-shot. It could be a fun series; its more genre-savvy nature certainly makes it different from most Jump manga, in any case.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
