Now yeah, our clown Naoya is actually taking his fight seriously this time, I mean, it’s Choso he’s up against, he better try at least lol. But god, that fight looked amazing. JJK fights like this are straight up made for the big screen. There’s one fight wayyy later on that would benefit even more from this treatment, but this one was already crazy good. The whole thing was just peak, easily the highlight of these two episodes. They clearly brought out the top animators for the GOAT Choso, and it showed. Looking at the list, probably K1ro on that one.

Anyway, the cat’s out of the bag, Yuuta’s still on our side. He was just acting under Gojo’s orders to save Yuuji. Gojo really planned everything out. Though yeah, Yuuta did technically kill Yuuji and then brought him back with RCT (completely busted ability). We also learned more about brain-kun.... who turns out to be Yuji’s mom… and Choso’s relative?! We also got Maki back! After Jogo wrecked her last season, she’s looking way better now... now like actually, but I'm personally digging the new look girl, and she’s reunited with Yuuta too! And Yuji calling Choso his big brother was actually really sweet. Their bond keeps growing, and they’re easily the best duo in JJK. Forget that Gojo-Geto talk lol.

Then boom, Tengen finally shows up. What a way to end it all. Now we wait two months :|

So I watched this recently, and well animation is looking better. Seems the production this time around is better.

Yuta is the real deal and you can see that the fights of this season will go insane, and I am looking forward to seeing them.

However I gotta say though, this is where the story drops into a cliff and ironically makes JJK carried by animation.
Seeing Tengen and Kenjaku gives me flashbacks why I am saying this.

I loved seeing Yuta and Yuuji actually bonding at last. I've wanted to see the two of them meet properly since I first read JJK0. Just confirming, was it at the end of that movie that Gojo went to speak with Yuta or was that at the beginning of season two? I can't remember at this point, but regardless the flashback was appreciated. I also appreciated Megumi giving Yuuji the pep talk he needed to get motivated again after all of the suffering he has been through lately. Choso's return was probably the most levity we have gotten in a long while. I never really understood the in-universe justification for the Culling Game when I was reading it weekly (I stopped reading part way through the arc), and with how quickly they glossed over the rules - literally a momentary flash of paragraphs of text - and the minimal explanation by Megumi, I suppose I will have to wait for future episodes to fully understand. Finally, they were really cruel with the moment they chose to cut it off at. I have to know what is going on with Tengen! Still, this preview has gotten me super excited to watch season 3 proper in January.

choso was the easily the mvp and the choso vs naoya fight was better than yuji vs yuta. ending the movie just as shit was getting started made my whole cinema sigh audibly, especially since the rules flash so quickly that you couldn't even have time to read. overall, was lowkey a waste of money and i should've just waited for the episodes but eh i'm glad i had an excuse to see another mappa work on the big screen again.

While Yuji and Yuta safely escape to their own fight, Choso being left behind being dealt by Naoya's fast advances, though he's not fazed as the latter's older brother who is able to do no wrong, fighting against Naoya with all his might. And while Yuji got beaten badly by Yuta to request Naoya to report of the former's death, the flashes of his life remembering his birth to awaken the kid who was Gojo's student at that time, plus the fakeout of the death that Yuta avoided cutting into Yuji's death.

The truth of the Culling Games that Yuji is introduced to for the first time, with Megumi pleading him for his help alongside Yuta, this game is quite the puzzle, that even with Sukuna's Fingers, Yuji would find it hard to keep on going for the fight of his life claiming even more Fingers. On that front, Choso has an idea for all the remaining surviving the surviving Zenin students to come together and establish a starting point, right into an underground space to meet their maker Tengen, this game is about to start out real...

It's going to be quite the long game for this run...

Naoya vs Choso. God tier. Peak perfection. As good as it gets. My goodness. Kaori and Jin looked so good as well. Such good direction. I love it so much. Sweet Yuta is cute. I love him. For a while, Yuji couldn't believe it.

The whole campfire part was so good. Poor Yuji. I was sad seeing him like this. Megumi's words gave him strength, like a great friend. Megumi needs Yuji's help in the Culling games. Choso popping out like that was hilarious. LOL. Maki and Yuki both look beautiful. My girls. Choso is a funny guy. Love him. We also finally met Tengen-sama.

The ED is beautiful, both song-wise and visually. So, gorgeous. It's just getting started, but let the Culling Game begin.

As someone who has read the Manga and was disappointed with the ending. I will admit I was super hesitant at first to watch the third season. The first part of the culling game is good but then it lost me in the later half.

After I saw the trailers I started getting super hyped and watching the first two episodes honestly brought back the joy I had with JJK in the beginning. I really love how everything is animated and love that Kouji Yusa is voicing Zenin. If the rest of the culling game is handled this well than I definitely am looking forward to watching more! Everything was done so well from the art direction, soundtrack, animation, choreography and voice acting! I just hope the poor animators can go home and not have a repeat of season 2.

Choso thought they shared the same father but nope yet kinda yes. The one with stitches wasn't Yuji's dad but his mom. Instead of i'm your father fake geto is going to say I'm your mother lol.

Loved the Choso vs Naoya fight. Choso best big brother. Then though Yuta had to one shot him like damn. Loved seeing Naoya on the ground squirming like a worm though.

We got Yuki and Maki as well. So cute ngl when Yuta ran up to Maki especially contrasted with how menacing he was when fighting Yuji.

Then we all meet Tengen. Also, they really never fucking cleaned up Riko's bloodstains wtf. Everything started getting distorted when she died though. Man imagine if Toji just didn't kill that one girl?

We also really got into Yuji's head a bit this ep with how he feels about what Sukuna did in Shibuya.

Yuta: It's not your fault
Megumi: Start by saving me.

also nobara...

How am I to live with the knowledge that Kamo Noritoshi fucked Yuuji's dad and gave birth to Yuuji?!

It's also a very neat detail that Tengen is the narrator from S2.

Maki, my queen, also became hotter (literally} with those burns. In fact, I really love this short look on her.

As for Yuuji himself, I need somebody to hold his hand and tell him that he has done absolutely nothing wrong...

Chousou being happy that Yuji called him his older brother put a big smile on my face.

The fight with Naoya, honestly was a little hard to tell what was going on during the wave of blood, had to rewatch a couple times. I know the strobing effect of the tunnel added to the immersion of them being in the tunnel but I could probably do without it during this scene.

Indeed, Okkotsu was putting up a facade and it worked thanks to his "inverse powers" or something. If there was a way to fool the lot at least for a while it was by having him. Even so Itadori is so much gloomer than previously and who could blame him considering the recent trend of deaths. Even Nobara didn't seem to make it (at least if we're to believe that isn't a lie).

Maki is thankfully ok with a brand new afterburn look. Yup, best girl is back along with the blond one and Choso who's so far the fun of the party (for now). The opening song might be better than expected upon listening to it more times and the ending feels a bit mellow but more in tune with what we're seeing so that's good.

So much to unpack in 2nd episode.

First of all amazing fight sequence between choso and naoya. Best Big bro choso still coming out on top but unfortunately gets knocked out by yuta. But it was so satisfying seeing naoya on his knees. get humbled.

Yuta made a really smart play by "killing off yuji" and then making naoya a witness to report. Also loved yuta and yujis bonding and ofc classic gojo preparing for everything possible.

Then there is Yujis dad and then the big reveal of yujis mom or rather her living status when yuuji was born.

The culling games rules were so detailed i had to pause and read them xD

Megumi and yuujis convo was really good, but sad as well especially when yuuji asked for nobaras status that was painful af. Also seeing her in ED was even more depressing.

Speaking of the ED, its really well done, beautiful and calm vibes while giving the meloncholic feels. Fits the current scenario.

Great 2nd episode. Mappa doing amazing work as always and hope the staff are being treated well this time.

Even though the manga ending soured my overall feelings toward JJK, the anime is still worth watching for the action alone. Plus there’s some moments still to come that I’m hyped for that I absolutely NEED to see animated.

Naoya vs. Choso went insane, that animation was just crazy. The direction and overall presentation for JJK has massively improved so much ever since Gosso took over. Idk how there could be anyone who would want to go back to how S1 was (and it was still good, mind you, but S2 and these first 2 episodes of S3 are just so much better). Though, I did have a gripe with how they showed the Culling Game rules, ain’t no one reading all that 💀💀💀 and the rules will be explained once the CG actually starts so idk why they would show them now lol. But other than that, a nice and strong start to season 3. I’m glad we got another King Gnu banger OP too.

I know the general consensus is that the Culling Games arc is where the writing quality takes a negative turn, so it’ll be interesting to see if anime-only people agree or if reception from them will still be relatively positive like with MHA and AOT’s supposedly “horrible” endings that anime-onlies from those fandoms didn’t seem to mind all that much.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

2/2 peak eps

this ep really did have a lot of events, from yuuta who really turned out to be a friend not an enemy, and tbh yuuta is looking so scary it makes feel goosebumps, and reuniting with same mates is really cool, seeing fushiguro for the 1st time this season and he looks really worried abt he's sister getting in the culling game

then there's the weird shi, is nobara really dead? like some magic will bring her to life again, chosou coming back to his brothers, and the main thing, reuniting again with the team, and now that makes them 6 yuji, fushiguro, yuuta, cool looking maki, chosou and yuki and yo they are really looking like they have a big business to do

5 / 5 really i don't see anything slightly bad in this season until now

The fight between Choso and Naoya is exceptional, very well adapted; Naoya learned that's not the main character. Choso is one of the best characters in JJK; it made me happy to see his joy when Yuji called him big brother.

Kenjaku is an atypical villain, ready to be ridden for the succes of the plan haha. I was so looking forward to it; it's going to be great.

What an episode, simply the way Yuta just nearly killed Yuji to use reverse cursed technique is cool, that ending also where Choso finds the right door and they enter Tengen´s domain oh the chills of the start of the S2 with Gojo and Geto.

Welp, animation looked better than previous season, but it was in my expectations from what I got to know from a friend who's an animator for Kyoto Animation. But, kinda sad about how they drew the frame for Yuji's mother. It was so much more creepier in the manga.

@Paul I thought the same thing. Even though it was fun to watch, I fear they might have cooked a little too much. I'm not a big fan of the wobbly melty chaotic style modern anime uses to telegraph the speed or/and the gravity of the fight.
