Of boredom.
I went in not knowing what to expect, but I left feeling genuinely bored to tears. This product has legacy-padding written all over it.
You know you're in for a rough time when you have to fight the urge to skim just a few minutes in. I couldn't even finish it. I don't need to know how it ends because it's guaranteed nothing of value will be gained.

Good job by the actual team that created it, the director, animators, character artists, storyboarders, sound team. Nice job by them unironically. Everything else? The concept, characters and "plot" in general? Yikes.

There's been hundreds of OVAs and ONAs and webvideos before with similar production backstories: executive funding and giving work to talented people who would create their vision for them, but as is usually the case they have the means but they don't have the vision. Maybe if they had someone on production with actual screenplay experience or knows how to write anything beyond review vlogs, the end product wouldn't have been a big fat MEH.
Everything I post is 100% factual.

lmao I thought it was a fun watch but I see where you're coming from and don't blame you at all for feeling the way you do. tbh I thought the documentary behind this anime was more entertaining 😭

I can see where you’re coming from in all cases except the plot. Baan definitely feels like a first project, but the concept has promise and heart behind it.

Kevin Penkin’s score, though? Chef’s kiss.

Honestly I can agree. The story they were going for had to have emotional beats like for the struggles of living in a foreign land. But it barely had any time to set the stage for it. You can't speedrun emotions.

I can at least say the animation and sound works were pretty good.
