Plot Summary

Idol group F/ACE has recently risen in popularity all thanks to Tamon Fukuhara—its handsome, wild, and talented leader. Seventeen-year-old Utage Kinoshita is one of the vocal fans who greatly admires F/ACE. As her life revolves around worshiping Tamon, Utage works at a housecleaning company to earn money and continue supporting him.

When her coworker gets sick, Utage is assigned to a new client with the same name as Tamon. She believes it is merely a coincidence—until she comes face to face with the real celebrity! Her surprise only grows when she discovers that, unlike the extroverted superstar known to the public, Tamon is actually a gloomy guy with no friends or self-confidence.

Given that Utage's adoration for Tamon knows no bounds, she vows to keep his secret and stay by his side—but dealing with Tamon's contrasting behaviors in and out of work might be the toughest job out there.

Episode 1

And here's a funny shojo romcom as Utage is a huge fan of F/ACE, and especially its center idol Tamon. But of course, nobody knows the true face of him as it turns out that he's a much different person out of the public eye as he's actually a guy with a gloomy outlook. Utage is out to change all that when she gets a job to clean up his house. Pretty funny stuff so far as it will be interesting to see just Utage will manage to make his charismatic persona on-stage the real Tamon.

First episode was good. I don't usually stick around for these kinds of shows but we'll see.

Japanese title is Tamon-kun Ima Docchi? - Which Tamon-kun is (He/It) Now?

The line when she said his dancing gives girls across Japan fantasies was literally, '... his dancing continues to make girls across Japan imaginarily pregnant.'

Oh and the phone article wasn't about the MC. It said 28 year old unemployed female.

Hmm, not sure Saori Hayami is the best fit for the part she's playing

What? I made it through the first episode of an idol show? That's rare. I like the main character and the humor so far. It remains to be seen whether Utage's idol worship can keep my attention, but I'll keep watching for now.

God this is as silly as a Christmas movie.

Have I mentioned that I'm an absolute sap for Christmas movies?

This was actually fun and I want more!

@HOOfan_1 That's what I think on 90% of her roles yet I always come around.

@marklebid I like her as Yukino Yukinoshita and Miyuki Shiba, and even Fubuki. She's good as the reserved ojousama type, or even the stuck up type, but not sure she's suited for the exuberant genki girl like the protag in this.

Ai Fairouz would be better suited, I think Yumiri Hanamori could pull it off too, she does a lot of characters that vacillate between calm one moment and fan girl the next.

Before this I had never seen a male idol show that I thought was worth watching. And I still haven't.

Is this where JC Staff's entire workforce went? xD

Quite an adorable 1st episode. The paranoia/self-doubting ramblings of Tamon doesn't come off irritating as that act tends to be, and Kinoshita isn't being a loud, fast-talking reactive character. Hopefully, it remains as such.

I'm fine with Saori Hayami's voice, albeit too recognizable as always. Performance-wise, it's her usual, but, I feel like her voice's energy is just the right amount for Kinoshita-- a bit more volume and energy and she becomes your typical overreacting loud female lead. The balance of sweet and exclamation makes the character's overreactions fun to watch, imo. Will have to see if it will remain as such in the coming episodes though.

Episode 2

Getting a meet-and-greet is exciting for a fangirl. But for Utage, it's a much different feeling seeing that she sees him everyday while knowing who the real Tamon is. Then comes the meet-and-greet, and Utage makes a scene that got her thrown out. Afterwards, Utage and Tamon go out, and it's pretty funny to see Tamon wearing a paper bag as after all, he has quite a lot of fans. Their cover was nearly blown when Utage's friends show up at the restaurant. And slowly, they are starting to fall in love with each other, but that's a bridge to approach and cross for another day. Funny stuff once again going to show how idols can mask their true face in public.

Another good episode. It's overloaded with chaotic reactions and imaginations. Saori Hayami did more vocal work for this one-- probably the most different I've heard her, base on the few works I've seen from her so far (SxF, KnY, Sakamoto Days, Pseudo Harem).

An obstacle is now in place, with Utage trying not to be caught by her classmates with murderous intent (lol). And Tamon's manager is now aware of his housekeeper being a helpful stan to him.

I really like Utage's somewhat 90s look. Her simplicity is very attractive.

Yeah Hayama kicked it up a notch from the first episode. She's getting used to the character. (They usually record episodes sequentially.)

Episode 3

And now, Utage gets to meet Ouri up close and in person as she bumps into her on the street. It turns out Ouri also has a B-side as while he appears all princely on-stage, in truth he's a hotheaded and violent man. Utage finds that out when going back to Tamon's apartment to get the fan she dropped and saw Ouri wrecking the place. Quite a messy situation Utage has gotten herself involved in as Tamon's apartment continues to get filled up with mushrooms there, all while Utage lives and breathes F/ACE with her fandom, and now needing to navigate through these alter egos.

From the look of things, all members of the unit have a B-side to them that would cause a firestorm if all that got out to the public as first it's Tamon being a pessimist, and Ouri being an overly aggressive thug.

Ouri's trying to take Utage and that final shot of Tamon's eye indicating shit is about to get real...!!!

Well. If this was a Jason Statham film, I mean.

I have no idea what to expect from an idol show.

@SparkyBob Well they just said he can't act heartbroken because he's never experienced loss or whatever. Some kind of jealously trip will probably help him in a goofy way.

I am finding this thing too rote. I decided to watch both this and You and I Are Polar Opposites because both have maintained a 4.9 on Crunchyroll with more than 5000 people rating it, which means like 90 percent of ratings were five stars. I can see why people like this, as it's well done, but as far as I'm concerned it does nothing interesting. I don't find the personas of the idol guy or the fangirl particularly compelling or believable, and I'm not sure I believe that an agency would have let a member of a popular idol group randomly go out with a girl his age and almost get caught in public.

Actually I think I only like the head explosions. Especially when she pulls out a rag and starts wiping the magenta squee effluvia off her face as if it were real.

Episode 4

Utage brings Tamon to the summer festival with the idol wearing a shiba inu mask, and Ouri secretly following them. Ouri is trying to figure out what love is. And after Ouri shows himself, Tamon confesses to Utage that he loves her, though he said it in the spur of the moment to get Ouri not to hit on her. So after the festival, they head out to a playground to watch the fireworks and all of the sudden their relationship became more than a working one with Tamon calling her Uta-chan. So with that, Tamon is fully committed to winning the center position, and he does so in the second round of the competition, to walk on water, and gives a love pose at the end. I had a feeling something was off when Tamon made that sudden love confession.

@RMikami I kept waiting for it to just vanish like a usual visual joke, but nope-- they committed to it actually physically existing. xD

Episode 5

Utage is asked to be Ouri's housekeeper, and unlike with Tamon's tiny apartment, Ouri lives in a mansion, a place so big that Tamon had to help out. And Ouri is also sick. And while that's going on the battle for the center intensifies as Tamon and Ouri are trading jabs to see who remains in first place. But as for the one who wins the center position, it's neither Tamon nor Ouri as it's Keito to get it. Tamon may not be the Center, but he does have a dedicated fan who will go out of her way to support him.

Episode 6

Here's Keito's B-side as he sees fans as nothing more than means to an end, and by that he's all about money. He sees Utage as a threat seeing that Tamon hasn't been himself lately. Tamon is reeling in shock after losing the center competition to Keito, and Utage is the only thing keeping him upright. But Utage is there to remind him that he needs to at least mitigate his gloomy personality a bit, and she lets him know that she supports Tamon all the way. For that, she bakes a cake for him to get him out of his funk. It will be interesting to see what Utage thinks once he finds out what the center's B-side is.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how Idols sympathy bait their vulnerable fans into getting with them. Seriously though, this went into a dark place that I'd hope this fun show wouldn't-- at least not from Tamon, the MC. Suicidal, guilt-threatening, obsession, possessiveness? Hella problematic; Not fun at all.
I guess they wanna tackle lots of the toxicity behind the scenes of an Idol culture.

Ouri really gave Keito all the information he needed with 0 pressure. xP

Geeze that got weird and creepy, which I wasn't expecting. But this show so far has earned enough respect that I'll see where they go with it.

I also love that short dance sequence in the opening sequence - I tend to play it a couple of times.

Episode 7

Tamon goes out wearing a bag on his head as Utage comes across him on the streets as she was just trying to enjoy her day off. And then she meets Keito and sees his B-Side for the first time as it turns out Keito lives next door to Tamon. Utage sees just how money-conscious he is and how profiteering he is. And then Utage is being asked to help out at training camp with F/ACE as arranged by the group's manager Fujita. Once again, Utage learns just how messed-up this band is when they are off stage as it all started with just a simple housecleaning job for one of the idols that has turned into something even bigger now that she's starting to get the attention of the other boys.

I expected the male otaku who was getting gacha merch for his oshi was going to be the other dark haired dude in the boy band...that was a lot of work for a character who was only on screen for 20 seconds

Episode 8

It's summmer, and the boys are off to the beach for a film shoot as Utage fulfills Fujita's request to be a staff member for this shoot. The boys play at the beach, and then Utage does all the cooking. And then at night Tamon and Utage were trapped in the equipment shed, but it turns out the producer did that on purpose to make it so that it can only be opened from the outside. Then Keito explains his B-Side as he's going all-out to support his family and doesn't see this as a business venture that somebody with that personality would otherwise have. And then Utage and Tamon have a romantic moment at the beach, though it remains to be seen just how close they were, but Ouri saw it all go down. Lots happening here as the producer got what he wanted, all while this might be the beginning of a romantic relationship that could become a scandal if it is taken the wrong way.

Of my four Thursday anime, this is the one I save for last because it's reliably fun.

I am curious, however, about the rapid-fire untranslated Japanese spiel she goes into when trying not to spontaneously orgasm or whatever she was doing. Some Japanese version of the American trope of reciting baseball stats or something?
