Jack Of All Trades; Party Of None

https://myanimelist.net/anime/61128/Yuusha_Party_wo_Oidasareta_Kiyoubinbou

Overview:
Orn, once a skilled Swordsman, had adapted to the role of Enchanter to fill a crucial gap in the Hero Party. However, one day, the party leader abruptly dismisses him, claiming his skills are lacking. Branded a "weakling" and a "jack of all trades, master of none," by his former comrades, Orn is cast out without a second thought.

Determined to start anew, he returns to adventuring—this time as a Swordsman, the role he originally excelled in. But his time as an Enchanter was far from wasted. The experience, knowledge, and countless original spells he developed in the Hero Party have forged him into a warrior unlike any other. Now, armed with an unconventional set of skills, Orn is ready to carve his own path—one that will prove his true strength to the world.

Pretty generic for this kind of thing so far and I have little doubt he'll end up in a party where he's the only male surrounded by a bunch of cute girls.

In it's favor I'll say that it has above average production values and whoever wrote it at least tried to give the character more depth than a piece of paper. I don't expect it to be more than what you usually get from this kind of show though.

Agreed, but the dialogue wasn't cringe, and the party kicking him out made decent points (although a couple were dickish about it.) He's better off as an A-rank one man army than as a weak link in a more powerful group of S-rank specialists.

I'm hoping that there will be more sides to him than just "Enchanter" and "Swordsman" though.

Kinda generic but better than these shows typically are.

The guy basically invents his own magic and his own hybrid class and they kick him out because he's not as good as the single greatest enchanter in the city?

Just once I'd like to see one of these kicked out of the party things where the party is sad and really apologetic to kick him out instead of all being backstabbing dickheads about it. The main guy at least gave some reasons but the other two were the usual asshole types that will inevitably end up being sorry they kicked him out.

Episode 1

And thus, it begins with Orhun being kicked out of his party seeing that he is A-rank in a ton of things, but an S-rank in nothing. And thanks to Selma and the success of leading parties that they have leaned towards being filled with guys specializing with roles, which doesn't apply to Orhun. So he gets kicked out, saves a girl, who just so happens to be Selma's little sister Sophia, and he gets a job that's specifically for him as a lone wolf. Pretty generic start for a show about being kicked out of the party for being perceived useless, but at least it's watchable so far and I would enjoy it if I didn't overthink about the cliches.

Say, that hero who kicks people out of parties was unusually reasonable this time.

It's another world that takes fantasy game mechanics a bit too seriously. We won't be seeing anybody eating monster meat in this show. I like the character designs, and I haven't seen anything that annoys me yet.

Episode 2

Seeing that Orhun can fill in just about any role that it's no wonder why he's valuable. So he goes on his first quest with Sophia's party consisting of Logan the enchanter and Caroline the dodge-type defender. And while she's also part of the hero's party that Orhun was kicked out of, Luna actually cares about the former party member, and Oliver waited until she was not present to kick him out. While Luna wants him to come back, it's too late for that now that the article has been published. This goes to show that Orhun is a plug-and-play type of guy at a time when specialized roles are the way to go.

@runec and it always seems every other party seems to understand their party only functioned because of the guy they kicked out except the party that kicked the guy out.

"Dungeon, party, strongest, hero, heroine, demon, villainess, last/final boss", etc. Nowadays I usually just skip all the shows if I can see one of those words in their titles, lol. They tend to be nothing but boring copy & paste almost every single time.

I suppose I'm going to have to get used to the creators not explaining why their fantasy worlds operate with game mechanics. Oh yes, there's a nearby dungeon that has a hundred increasingly difficult levels, just like all those other dungeons in the land. Check your skill levels and be sure to grab the items that the monsters drop when they vaporize. Your party had better include a DPS, tank, buffer, and healer.

And then I realize that I'm willing to overlook this, since I play RPGs and so I'm part of the target audience.

A bit melodramatic there at the end. Not sure how I feel about all these kids, wonder if we get the obligatory "things go wrong in the dungeon" scene after everyone starts looking down on him so he has to show his real power and save them all. Be nice if there was a little carnage first so we get a real sense of danger from the dungeon.

@MenchiK1 If monsters don't leave bloody corpses, probably not much you can expect from this show in that regard.

Selma's "Yor Forger" panic faces when she thought her little sister was having naughty thoughts cracked me up.

I would have dropped this for the tropes but the writing seems okay, and at least it doesn't have stat screens.

@zkeleton Fortunately, it turns out every monster from floor 1-31 is incapable of defeating the average middle schooler.

They keep saying he "converted" like he changed classes in an RPG but there's no RPG system to this and it seems like he can still use all his enchanter powers just fine as a swordsman. So he's more a multiclass.

Which should make him hugely versatile in any party but the leader of every Hero's party in these shows is a dip shit who doesn't understand how his own party functions.

Episode 3

There really is no going back now after Orhun is perceived to be deadweight even though Selma knows that's not true at all. But he's showing why Oliver made a big mistake letting him go with his new party, though this party's leader Logan has doubts in him even after they got past floor 35. But after seeing him in action, Logan wises up and wants to learn from him. As it turns out, Orhun helped the heroes reach floor 94 so quickly that Oliver didn't have time to learn. So lesson here is to learn what you can knowing that it might come back to bite someday if you don't take the opportunity.

It sounds like he's a better enchanter than swordsman. Although I suppose now he is going to solo the black dragon.

Episode 4

Philly replaces Orhun as the hero party's enchanter, and it turns out that they went to the same place Orhun is because Luna told the party that Orhun joined the Silver Rabbits. As it turns out, while Philly is a more powerful enchanter, she's a worse fit for the party since her buffs don't last as long due to the party's high magic resistance, and that would come back to bite the party in that boss battle. The party just didn't stand a chance against the black dragon, and while the party survived the fight, the dragon teleported out of the boss room to attack the adventurers who are unaware about the dragon's presence in a place it's not supposed to be. Once again this goes to show that one should be careful about kicking someone out of their party as skill level isn't everything. In this case, they traded durability for skill, and it's just not working out.

Aw, the hero is slipping into jerk mode. How has the team not paid attention to Luna telling them about Orhun's abilities before? You would think that a spell that boosts abilities 50 times would be a bit more memorable. Now that the hero has resolved to make do without Orhun, how long is he going to put up with Luna? How long will Luna put up with the team? Yes, I'm hoping that Luna ends up with Orhun.

This show doing the "Everyone's got rocks for brains and fingers in their ears" except magically they had one other competent party member this whole time. And she didn't feel like explaining to them until they got to the 92nd floor. I thought she didn't want to die?

She couldn't have explained all that earlier? The hero party is a bunch of dumbasses is such lazy writing. Also the fact that one guy made all the difference is pretty lame too, especially with him being a fellow dumbass who doesn't realize how extraordinary his own abilities are. So what did Luna do just sit around going "wow" quietly to herself? Also how does she know anyway? If she was so smart why would she ever join a party of morons? She never heard the rumblings of discontent and wanted to set them straight? I mean they were so confident about what they were doing they even had a newspaper expose written on why they had to dump his ass? Are the reporters all morons too? At least one of them should have just died, that level of stupidity can't be covered up.

Given all of that, that was a surprisingly cool dragon.

A better question is why did she stay? She should have just left soon as she found out they kicked him out of the party. There's certainly no friendships there worth salvaging and they're just going to get her killed.

You can't tell me that two former members of the Hero's party would have any trouble forming a new party or joining a new guild.

@runec It's not really the "Hero's Party" it's the "Hero Party." People started calling the party that, it hasn't shown so far that the leader dumbass was actually regarded as a hero above the rest of the group.

That was something else that bothered me, since the dragon took their "teleporter" didn't they actually have to travel through the floors normally? So why couldn't they just warn everyone along the way? How did they not have to pass wherever the dragon went on the upper floors on their way out? They were on what floor 92, 94? Didn't they have to go back up through the other 90 some floors? Floors are arranged easiest to hardest starting with 1 right? Their new member was impressive because she completed floor 100 of some other dungeon.

@MenchiK1 There are teleporters on certain floors that allow you to go directly to and from the surface as long as you've been to that teleporter before. That's why they were able to start on floor 92.

Geez they really dragged that out for the entire episode. Good thing they were in a hurry. 9_9
What is up with the busty girl in his group of students? They draw them all short so they look like kids, but then give her adult curves and when they did that close up and drew her face more detailed she looked like an adult, pick a character design and stick too it. Is she an adult or a kid? One thing I never liked about anime is using height as an indicator of age, and how despite most women stop growing taller in their mid teens, anime girls always grow a head taller when they hit their 20s (first noticed this back in Haruhi with adult Mikuru vs teen Mikuru). Teachers are always a head taller than their HS students, which is especially hilarious when most are 5'3" or shorter. Are the teen girls supposed to be 4'8"?

I thought that the dragon was going to attack at the beginning of the episode, not at the end there. So Orhun talks about Albert, who formerly led the Silver Rabbits until his death by the claws of that black dragon that the hero party led out of the dungeon by accident. Orhun continues to teach everybody as while his skills are capped out, his teaching is quite invaluable seeing that his party mates can reach their full potential. But then they get hit with an unexpected encounter with that said black dragon. The heroes screwed up big time, something that probably wouldn't have happened if Orhun was still there, and the Silver Rabbits are about to prove them wrong.

Wow, this episode was one of the best examples of "New Powers As the Plot Demands" that I've seen. It may even beat out Asterisk War. So Orhun isn't really a jack-of-all-trades, he's a master of all who's better than any single individual in their own expertise. He can come up with new spells that no one ever heard of practically at will. Oh, and he has his own extremely useful special ability that I don't remember being foreshadowed.

Amazing. I'll lower my MAL score by a point then.

And he developed them ALL in secret with no one ever noticing just for the time if he ever had to fight a dragon alone, which should never happen. He even shut off these guys powers because they would "distract" him and not help. He had to win all by himself, even though the strain should be too much...9_9 Oh and this part of the dungeon is SO huge he can fight a giant dragon in a quiet corner where no one else is in danger. This show is trying way too hard, not only does it border on the ridiculous it crossed over and built a huge development.
The only part I found amusing was the end when we got the girls eyes all watering with tears, we all know what that was a metaphor for ;)

I guess the author has never heard the second half of the phrase. It's jack of all trades, master of none. This guy seems to be better at every class than the people who are actually professionals at that class.
