Plot Summary

Yuki wakes up to find herself in an unfamiliar manor, wearing a maid uniform and lying on a luxurious bed. Soon, she discovers five more girls, all dressed the same as her. This is the Ghost House, and the only way they can survive is to make it through the traps that lie in wait—deadly games full of blowguns, buzz saws, locked rooms, and weapons. It's a hopeless, terrifying situation for everyone there...well, everyone except Yuki. After all, this is her career at seventeen. Do you think that's odd? She would agree. But that's how some people are—they earn their living playing death games.

Episode 1

To start things off, this show premieres with a double-length episode, and the animation style stands out, for better or worse. If not for the inferior animation quality, it looks as if Shaft animated this, but it's Deen who actually does it, using the style of animation for their horror shows that they are known for. There are a number of moments where the characters are faceless, which has some special meaning in it.

So it starts off with six girls being gathered to play a death game as they are struggling in life and playing death games is their only means of making ends meet. The girls gather around the table where the keys there are underneath a serving tray, and as this place is rigged with traps that the girls need to be careful. Kokuto ends up getting taken down by one of the traps. Next room the girls need to find a way to escape a flooding room and figure that they al need to pull the levers at the same time while wearing the handcuffs. That causes the rooms to separate and for guillotine blades to come down, but those keys not only unlocks the handcuffs but stop the blades. Unfortunately, the girls wasted too much time fighting over the keys against Yuki's words and Aoi is cut up by the blades. And then they get to the elevator but it can't carry all the girls and only goes down once. Trying to figure out how to lose one girl's weight, Kinko decides to stay behind. But Yuki realizes that even without Kinko the other three are over the weight limit and the girls cut off a leg to get under the limit. The girls reach the exit, but they haven't cleared all the obstacles all while the place is on fire. With Yuki being ruthless as opposed to the other girls, she sacrificed Kinko to make it out. So in the end, Yuki cleared the game with Beniya and Momono also making it to the end. It turns out that Yuki has played this game 28 times before and is hoping to clear 99 of them seeing that her life depends on it. Lots of drama here, and these games are quite brutal seeing that compassion can get these girls killed. That was intense there, and while it's fine for a first episode, I would like to see some more backstory moving forward and I wonder how things will play out as this show will feature a rotating cast of characters as Yuki is only there to play and win.

I thought that was really well done. Not sure how many episodes of something this bleak I really want to watch though.

Episode 2

Onto the next game, which actually happens before the first episode since this one is Yuki's 10th death game while the Ghost House game is #28. The goal of this game is to find the exit of the Scrap Building within the time limit. Unlike with the first episode's game, the fellow players have been playing together for quite some time as opposed to being first-time players. One of the players is already dead before meeting the rest of the group as the place is littered with land mines. But there's an even bigger problem in trust as Mishiro and the others have been together for quite some time with Yuki being the only outsider. And that becomes an issue when Kotoha steps on a mine and gets blown up by it. Yuki decides to continue on alone as after all she is ruthless as the first episode would show. This goes to show that in this kind of environment one needs to be careful about who they can trust as the other girls are starting to let emotion cloud their judgment.

All these cute young girls willing to risk their lives for money, is prostitution no longer an option? Heck even an only fans account.

(1st episode)

I like the cinematic vibe of it, especially with its art style (water paint, or something?).
This is more in my alley than Gnosia, mostly because it's simply a game of trust and betrayal, with barely any mechanics-- like the SAW series. I already somewhat expected the ending of the episode but, it wasn't hard to foresee anyway.

I'd assume the rest of the episode are simply going to be full versions of the game, with more dialogue and drama. Not sure how Ixd feel about that but, as long as it feels cinematic, I might keep watching.

(Episode 2)

I was worried they were gonna do the usual school girl drama with this one. Fortunately, it's just one of those establishing of dominance thing.
I'm guessing the alpha female will conspire with the talkative one and sacrifice their last remaining sacrificial lamb, as she tries to make a 2 on 1 situation against Yuki, which ends up being an every-woman-for-themselves triple threat. xD But I also feel like she's gonna play the role of being Yuki's rival/parallel and face each other again in the future, so maybe the 2 of them will survive together.

Not sure if this is a flashback of Yuki's previous game, or if she was just lying about it being her 10th game-- I guess that's the point of the story.

Episode 3

It turns out that Kotoha survived that, but having lost her legs in the explosion, and Yuki went to rescue her, and the two form an alliance. Meanwhile, Mishiro, Chie, and Keito are walking into a trap as they encounter a wolf. They charged ahead recklessly even though there's no telling what traps await them. The wolf ends up chewing Mishiro's arm as she got separated from Chie and Keito. As it turns out, Mishiro has a huge jealousy problem as that led her to being so violent and she took it all out on her sister Kazumi. While Mishiro was ready to die, Yuki came back to get her, not out of pity but to get her to understand the error of her way. So pretty much this episode focuses on Mishiro, who is not exactly happy with her life and is being so irrational because of that.

This is starting to feel dozy for me. Too whispery than necessary that it starts to feel like it's trying hard to be mysterious. For now, I mostly appreciate it as some kind of audiobook-ish kind of show. The slow-burn revealation of Yuki's true colors and intents is where my interest mostly is.

Episode 4

Yuki asks Mishiro to apologize as a condition to save her, but she was going to do it no matter what. Mishiro runs off and gets attacked by wolves, but Yuki comes to save her and tell her the way out. The other girls make it to the final room while Yuki fights her way there being the last to arrive. The final task is to vote for one of the remaining players and whoever gets the most votes dies. In the end, Chie got two votes and dies, and the other four girls make it out alive, though for Kotoha she doesn't have her legs. So in the end, Mishiro was shown the error of her ways and cleared the game with everybody else sans Chie and is using this experience to live in atonement as it was her vote that decided Chie's fate since she picked one at random and stuffed the ballots all at one with Chie's being the one officially counted. So with that, another game cleared, and next time it's a new game for Yuki to play.

I guess this episode was meant to show you can't just be along for the ride in this game and actually have to be entertaining for the audience. Why would that girl want to risk her life again just to beat Yuki. Dumb.

Episode 5

And now, a break in the action in preparation for the next death game, Golden Bath. Yuki explains her motivation for playing these death games as she's pretty much fine with dying given the terrible hand she was dealt, and if so she would rather go big rather than to try and struggle with a low-paying job. And then she gets a call by Kinko's father, whose daughter was killed in the Ghost House game in the first episode as the one Yuki had to kill in order to clear the game. It turns out that he wants to put an end to these death games and needs Yuki's help to do so, and is willing to write a blank check for her to do it. So after the first four episodes were about the death games being played, this one is all about Yuki outside the game and why she's going through risking her life in a game where somebody is guaranteed to be dead.

Looks like this next game is set up to be a battle royale, where all the players can use any means necessary to take items from other players, even killing them.
Failure is always an option.

So wouldn't they notice she didn't take their pill? Really wondering what this show is trying to be. Well once we learned they dressed them for each game I was wondering when we would get a naked one, kinda dumb to give them all bath robes though, what's the point of them being naked then?

Episode 6

The Golden Bath game begins, and it's quite a brutal one as first of all there's a cap as to the number of players and whoever didn't make it dies. And then Yuki gets to know Azuma better as she's somebody who has a hard time fitting in and plays these games to feel alive. The arena is a public bathhouse, but Yuki makes a critical slip-up that puts her at a huge disadvantage as girls are being slaughtered left and right. The one doing the killing is Riko as she took advantage of the situation to pummel those helpless players. The stakes are high there, and seeing that the girls are taking a bath before engaging that it makes everybody vulnerable, so let's see how Yuki responds to this.

Didn't like almost every shot being a long distance shot. New "pet me" girl is pretty lame, how does a little loli take out 3 girls at once? Oh and she outsmarted Yuki, pffft c'mon. Could barely follow what was going on.

Episode 7

Mishiro and Riko are in cahoots with each other as Riko got the key they need to win this game. And then Yuki and Mishiro fight each other as Yuki had been waiting for this moment. That was some really intense words by Yuki there saying that Mishiro is a piece of trash the first time they met, but now she's much more dangerous this time around and doesn't want to die by the hands of a scumbag like her. Mishiro bit off her fingers, but Yuki got the last laugh in the end. And then she fights Riko, whose body is mostly made up of prosthetics, and she barely beats her as puts it, she had luck on her side. So in the end, she killed a number of players to win this death game, all while putting Mishiro out of her misery as she overcame her disadvantage of being the last player to wake up with the game already in progress. Quite a brutal game that was as the bathhouse isn't exactly the place for a death game like this.

Boy that towel was on tight. Couldn't really understand what was going on and so took a look at the manga, and I have to say I am not a fan of this anymore. The manga is normal and this show just tries to cheap out by pretending to be "stylish", which really sucks as they are leaving out a ton and changing lots of things. Especially this episode. Disappointing.
