Per HIDIVE's official programming announcement for January 2026, Princess Principal (Episodes 1-12) will make its way onto the streaming platform beginning Jan. 20, 2026. This comprises the entirety of the anime episodes that have been released, although it appears that the accompanying film series -- Princess Principal: Crown Handler -- will not be available at this time.

While Princess Principal's anime run may have only lasted 12 episodes back in 2017, fans of the series still have plenty to look forward to in 2026 and beyond. The success of the show has spawned a film series, Princess Principal: Crown Handler, which continues after the events of the anime and is once again produced by Actas. The show's main voice cast returns, except for Imamura, who retired from voice acting shortly after Princess Principal's original run. Aoi Koga took over as the voice of Ange for the films.

Crown Handler is planned as a six-part film series, with four installments released to date. The film series begins as the girls are tasked to investigate Bishop, a Commonwealth spy hiding within the Kingdom's royal family. A power struggle over the succession of the throne also ensues, complicating matters for the secret agents even further.

The Crown Handler film series has been successful in its native Japan, grossing over 349 million yen despite complications from the COVID-19 pandemic that pushed back the original first installment's release from 2019 to 2021. The second chapter also followed in 2021, while the third entry hit theaters in 2023.

Chapter 4 arrived on May 23, 2025, but the next installment does not have a release date at this time. However, given that Chapter 4's home release will also arrive later this month on Jan. 28, it might not be much longer before fans get an update regarding the fifth film's theatrical debut.

Princess Principal Season 1 will begin streaming on HIDIVE on Jan. 20, 2026.

I liked the anime. Season 1 was decent, and I rated the first movie a bit lower because it felt too short. I know there are more movies where the story continues, but the ending of the first movie still felt a bit rushed.

overall good underated anime
