Episode 29

Things pick up after the trio leave Ausserst with Fern now a first-class mage as they continue to travel north towards Ende. While making a stop, Stark meets up with Wirbel as he's looking for a front-liner to deal with a demon attack, and had he accepted Wirbel's proposal, that would have stalled the journey for 2-3 years seeing that's how long it would take to quell the situation. In the end, Stark realized that he's a front-line for Frieren and Fern only and made Wirbel understand why he turned it down. And with that, the journey continues. It's great to finally be back with this show and it goes to show that there will be sidetracks and detours along the way, but some of them just aren't worth taking.

It's the last show to start airing (for me at least), and it goes right to the top of my watch list.

Yay it's started. :) Nice mix of calm and action to start the show. Hah Fern, Stark ain't going anywhere, especially after getting a peek at you in just your chemise. How scandalous LOL This show's ecchi is so modest, wonder how the hot spring episode will go. I think they should have kept a crystal, be great if they ever encounter a magic using enemy. Just throw it at them and stand far enough away to use their own magic.

@HOOfan_1 Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Even just a few small ones seem like it would be worth it considering they would have less range.

As beautiful as ever. The vibe of this show is just really unique to its own. It was worth the wait.
Least fave OP so far-- not bad though. On-brand Milet ED, as it should be. ^_^

I like the touch on strong mages, suddenly feeling scared and helpless, as they lose their magic capabilities for the first time.
Of course, there's another parallel situation between Eisen and Stark.
I'd assume there's gonna be even more time skip later on where Stark will be assisting Wirbel in their war battle.

Speaking of Wirbel... he's in his 30s? Adults in this Anime just really look like teenagers, huh?

The party might as well grabbed shattered crystals for eternal wealth since they were never gonna be able to use magic in that crystal cave anyway.

Oh man it's great to be back in the Frieren universe. Didn't realize how much I missed it.

Since the crystals can't be easily cut by conventional means and are immune to magic the only practical use I can think for them is anti-mage weapons. Probably why they'd fetch such a massive sum. And the best reason for Frieren and Co to leave them buried in the cave.

Episode 30

Frieren comes across a statue of the Hero of the South that is in need of cleaning. And while cleaning it, Frieren looks back at her adventure with him, as well as with Himmel. That guy could see into the future, and foresaw his own death happening in a year, but would cut a path open, which results in Frieren meeting Himmel and others going on to defeat the Demon Lord with them. And then the journey continues as they enter the Graf Dach's domain, then encounter a demon known as the Sword Demon. They make quick work of that demon to get back an heirloom sword she stole. So the journey continues as there's a lot of looking back here after seeing that statue of a hero that has been forgotten, but the villagers remember fondly.

This season's episodes go by much quicker. All the action doesn't let it have the laid back feel of season 1. Though since the 1st season had 2 cours it could take its time. I hope they aren't rushing purposely things. Southern Hero seems like a cool guy too.

Southern Hero is the GOAT!!! Knew he was gonna die failing to reach the demon lord, could've tried to change that but saw that the next hero will succeed anyway so, he went with the script, and even secured the leading lady way ahead of time. xD

IIRC, there was already a bothersome noble in the first season. So, that part didn't really feel much for me anymore-- even the point of that whole thing felt like a repeat.

The show really knows how to project the adventure feeling even when it's fast-tracking through it. Hope they're not skipping through too much stuff. But I won't be surprised if they're already planning a grand 'TV Original' ending for this; Just learned that the Manga is on hiatus.

Episode 31

Even in a world like this, hot springs are still a thing, though what the group finds is just a foot bath and an abandoned village. Seeing how cold it gets there that warming up in the onsen is certainly a great feeling, if only it were there. And calling Frieren an old hag does not sit well as after all she's too cute to be called that, and the third time it happens she cries for three days straight as Stark already did so twice. While it was just a foot bath, the view is still great and worth the cost of admission.

I imagine it was not the Hot Springs episode some people were hoping for. Be careful with a maiden's heart Stark, that is not something to joke around with. Hmmm I guess by her definition Stark and Frieren just went on a date.

Very, they all of a sudden forgot how to draw eyes. If you open your eyes super wide (like she did) less of your upper eyelid shows, hers became twice as big. Even bigger than when she has a smirk on her face and her eyes are half closed when you would show more of your upper eyelid.

@MenchiK1 Partway through it I did find myself wondering if someone else had done the animation for that episode. It just seemed a bit different than how the show normally looks.

Episode 32

Fern and Stark go out on a date together as Fern puts on a new dress for the occasion. And for Frieren it brings back memories and it ends up with Frieren getting braids. After that, the journey continues as they have exited the volcanic region and approach a checkpoint as they stock up knowing that there won't be many opportunities to do so in the Northern Plateau. Thee days later, they encounter a small village that has been struggling since a monster showed up to block the trade routes. And it's no wonder why business was so shot there after it appeared as it's quite strong and it took some great teamwork to take it down. So with the gang in the Northern Plateau, the journey just got a whole lot more dangerous and it was a good thing they got to enjoy themselves while they can.

Hmmm a purposely disappointing date for a callback to Himmel...I guess we shouldn't expect anything different at this point (makes their dance episode from season 1 that much better). I do like how Fern dresses like a girl who was raised by an old priest and an even older elf. Looks like the northern plateau is going to be non-stop action. With such powerful monsters the question I have isn't why people live there but how? Doesn't look like it would take long for that thing to have taken out most of the people himself, what would have stopped it if it took a party as powerful as Frieren's to take it out?

They're clearly stretching the story real hard, but also rushing the execution.

Not everything has to be a reminder of the Hero's party; of Himmel. This episode should've been heavily focused on Fern and Stark's relationship growth, which in turn is also a sign of them maturing even more as the in-story time passed by. And I say that as someone who's main nitpick form the 1st season was their fan-service.

Barely even cared about the latter half; They've done that "for the people" topic multiple times before. If Stark still have to be reminded of that every time at this point of the story, then I guess he hasn't grown and learned much since the 1st season, for all the in-story years that has passed.
This episode is the worst experience I've had from the Frieren series, so far.

I think Stark has only been with them about 1 year. It was 28 years after Himmel's death after he joined the party and now it's 29.

Episode 33

Frieren meets Fass for the first time in 80 years, and given how humans don't live long that of course her party's roster has changed. Fass has located some Boshaft, an extremely rare drink that is said to be the GOAT of booze. He has been digging deep and searching far and wide for Boshaft, and with Frieren's help he finally found it. But all that effort ends in disappointment as Boshaft turns out to be disgusting, and Frieren was expecting it seeing that she was afraid of that disappointment when she met him 80 years ago. The moral of this story is that centuries-old drinks are more likely going to taste bad, much like with just about all foods and drinks.

Then it's onto the next town where Frieren has incurred a huge debt to the Norm trading company from 80 years ago and to pay it off she needs to work inside the mines for 300 years that puts an end to her journey. But seeing that Frieren can just use magic rather than to dig away that she does just that and the miners strike it rich finding silver ore that's more than enough to forgive her debt to the president's grandfather. So this episode is all about searching and finding, finishing what Frieren didn't complete for 80 years and now she has put some resolution to that.

So some elves are really trolls? Could have saved that guy from disappointment and wasting his life 80 years ago, if she just told him the truth. If they defeated the demon lord why are their still so many demons menacing everyone? Aren't there new heroes killing them? Seems like since Frieren's party everyone got lazy.

Seems like a lot of demons went into hiding while Himel was still alive. Now that he's been dead for 30 years they are causing some troubles.

Trying to think about how many of their big seven are left. Team Himel got 2, Hero of the South got 2 or 3 (I forget) and then Frieren got Guillotine girl.
So 1 maybe 2 Big demons left from the good old days. Plus any that have worked their way up in the 80 years since.

Yeah they said multiple times in the first season that the demons started getting aggressive after Himmel died. So it sounds like they went into hiding for 50 years then came back.

The Hero of the South killed three of them and Frieren's party defeated two of them--so maybe not killed--and two ran away. Aura was one that ran away so that leaves one unaccounted.

Slightly different reminiscing episode this time. At least this time, it's Heiter who- in some capacity- is involved in the topic being tackled, and not another Himmel one. The 2nd part was silly cute. Hopefully, the next episode will finally be more worthwhile.

@Jozuwa-_- Seeing that Frieren has lived for centuries that it's quite easy to lose track of all this. I knew that this journey north is expected to take a decade or so, but I would have expected it to be longer than a year. Of course losing so many years of your life just to chase some booze that ends up not being what it made out to be is something that nobody else would even think about doing, and he would have at least saved 80 years of misery had he listened to Frieren's skepticism as even if it was divine, I don't think it will be that way centuries later. Anyway, this goes to show how easy it is to lose track of time knowing how long things take in this show.
