By now we already know how brave the heroes in this series are, and the Hero of the South is one of the best examples. He went in knowing he would die and still accepted the mission. Truly worthy of the hero title. Really like his character and hope we get more flashbacks of him like we do with Himmel, but idk maybe it would’ve been better if he had kept that prediction to himself instead of telling Frieren she would meet Himmel. Saying that kind of takes away from her choice to follow him imo.

Still, we know how much Himmel’s words meant to Frieren. Even now she still thinks about him, so it probably wouldn’t matter either way. Anyway, another day, another demon to be slain, and no surprise, Frieren’s party takes it down easily. At this point, what can’t they do lol. It was nice to see Kouki Fujimoto already, although I didn’t really like that CG-looking explosion they kept spamming here. Still though, lovely fight, will never complain about too much Kouki Fujimoto.

Nice MRS. GREEN APPLE reference at the end too, considering they did the OP and all xD

Frieren and the hero statues, the silliest spell I’ve heard of so far has gotta be the one just for scratching an itchy back, lol. Lowkey shocked that the statue in that village was actually the Humanity's Strongest Hero.

So, is this guy actually cracked enough to outscale Frieren or Himmel? Speaking of Himmel, this is his first appearance in season 2. Facts: the Demon King is cracked, but those 7 Sages of Destruction under him are straight-up terrifying—Aura being one of them. Between the vasectomies and the dispatched prostitution, the heroes in Frieren really be going through it.

Also, don't forget Frieren literally went to that village just to stack some coin. If they had just grabbed the mana crystals in the last episode, she wouldn't even have to stress about coin anymore. If those crystals seal her magic, why not just let Stark carry them? Then Frieren wouldn't have to scrap with some thief demons for literal pocket change

This is why I love Madhouse’s adaptation. While the manga gave me the legend of the hero of the south in a relatively brief flashback, the anime has turned it into a breathtaking piece of world building. Seeing the strongest man finally on screen.

It’s crazy that he could see the future and knew exactly how he'd die, but still chose to clear the path for the Hero Party. That's some heavy self sacrifice if you ask me i felt that emotionally.

Frieren cleaning the statue was such a GRANDMA(motherly) thing to do. It’s so nice to see how her perspective on these detours has changed since she met Himmel.

Madhouse and Evan Call are still the dream team another absolute relaxing, cozy, chill, peak episode!

As the show is a battle action anime for me, this episode is better than the previous one. The sound effects, especially the sound of the vibration of the sword were gorgeous.

A new demon appears but it seems to cooperation in the party was to much for that demon.
We also learned something about another hero this time and Frieren had met him.
It was nice of her to clean that statue.

That was unmistakably the sort of grimoire authored by a pâtisserie witch, intended for the dire hour when one craves a green apple tart and one’s hopeless apprentice returns instead with Red Deliciouses. A tragedy, meticulously documented in ink and spite.

The hero of the south, an absolute unit. He knew his fate but accepted it and walked it anyway thus fulfilling his role paving the path for future. Second half was neat too.

Frieren Fridays Peak! What's even better than a good storytelling? add in little bit of action!

The Hero of the South is as goated as the legends say, iirc he was only mentioned once or twice in season 1 and it's nice to finally see more about him. What do you mean he fought Schlacht and ALL 7 Sages of Destruction ALONE and managed to take out 4!? I know Aura must be weaker back then compared to when Frieren finally got rid of her, but still Himmel's party wasn't able to take her out fully. The feat of strength is cool and all along with the reveal of his foresight but what I like the most is how he paved the way for the next generation, he know his demise is inevitable but still went as far as he can to make it easier for Himmel and the party, WHAT A GREAT HERO!.

"He will change your life" –and that he did. /cries

I love to see more items from this world, didn't learn whatever made that sword attracting to demons but it's pretty cool enough– and yeah it's better to keep it under protection than have it fall in the hand of a dangerous demon.

Also need that spell for scratching my back.

I thought i wouldnt tear up but damn i was proven wrong again.

The starting story with the Hero of the south was beautiful and meloncholic. For someone to know their fate and also the fact their efforts might be in vain but still choosing to accept it & face it head on is a different type of mindset. Its so rare and i have so much respect for that. Humanitys strongest indeed.
But his efforts werent in vain as he accompilished so much including annihilating the demon armys frontlines and especially defeating 3 of the 5 Sages. (Rip Aura you will not be missed).

On top of that he also predicted the fated meeting of himmel and frierent & how much it would affect frieren as someone whos life span is beyond a humans. Its so profound.

Truly paved the way for them in all manner.

What a Goat. Its so nice seeing other heroes been given their deserved story and limelight.

Anyways 2nd half had some action with the party going on finding a sword quest. They find the demon whol almost tricked stark and fern but our experienced elf baba was quick enough to notice.
Interesting line from the sword demon "i had to eat to survive"

Also its good to see that fern has still much to learn as the demon overwhelmed her and broke her defenses easily with stark having to intervene. Frieren finally managed to wipe her out with a little himmel flashback.

The sword is returned and frieren gives a little demon pep talk on how the demons use different ways to get what they want including using greed of humans and also their kindness. Hence why frieren protected fern during the mission cause she was gonna pray for the dead people and thus fall into the demons hands like the others.
Its interesting seeing its not just mindless demon slaughter but also understanding their nature, something which has been recurring from season with flamme teaching it to freiren and now freiren parting it to stark and fern. Good stuff.

Another great episode in the bag.

Really enjoyed this episode and the introduction of the Hero of the South. I wish they showed us a battle scene with him but I understand the point of surrounding certain characters in mystery. Second half of the episode was also fun as it was your classic season 1 objective/task that provides a bit of comedy and a little action while also showing how the party gives back to those around them.

Admittedly previous episode didn't show me how Frieren can challenge in this highly competitive season, but this episode finally does show me that it's still a strong contender not only for anime of the season position but also the best anime of the year as well. I kinda hope season 2 would debut as ep1+ep2, but considering that it only has 10 episodes, it'd end too soon. But seriously, why just 10 episode when people want to watch 100 episodes. The demand is so high but the supply is so scarce.

This one week felt excruciatingly long. I'm so glad Frieren Fridays are back.

The Hero of the South, huh. I knew there'd be heroes other than Himmel, but I didn't think there'd be others who're anywhere close to his level of popularity. Also, the strongest of humanity too, huh? Regardless, I'm always in awe of how this series can make me care about new characters in such a short amount of time, even though I know they're already dead. Most anime can't do that in entire seasons. A hero who can see the future is so cool. He was essentially a warrior prophet. It's unfortunate that he died before he could defeat the demon king. I would've liked seeing more of him.

Also, apparently one of the seven sages is probably still alive. I wonder when we'll see them. Frieren already killed Aura. It'd be cool if Stark or Fern could kill the last one. That should dramatically destroy the remnants of the demon king's army.

The sword quest was really cool too. Crazy how Frieren could see through the demon pretending to be a priest. Demons are 2nd nature to her at this point.

I love this series so much. It feels great to watch and talk about when everything isn't mischaracterized. Can't wait for more.

Prophecy often is a trap for the seer, trimming their future timeline tree of possibilities. I am also pretty sure that Schlacht the Omniscient also knew he was going to be killed.

Many failed attempts on that sword as well, huh. I suspect the Graf is using it as a honeytrap to lure in and destroy demons.

Crafty demon could not fool Frieren.

Nice introduction for the Hero of the South, the BGM was awesome. And Frieren comming in clutch with the orbital strike was a sight to behold. This episode was even better than the last - they add so many little things and random perspectives and make even lore dumps interesting, where most generic animes just put up a jpeg + voice-over on top and call it a day.

Good episode and one that really felt like the earlier episodes of season 1 too with the two-parter focusing on their adventure. Was nice seeing Hero of the South's interactions with Frieren there in the flashback for a changeup, and seeing him just predict everything that would come to fruition. He did truly act heroic by laying down the path for Himmel to shine, even being willing to not be in everyone's mind in terms of impact left on history. Good to still see that even in some areas, his contributions are remembered and celebrated in their current times. Maybe a bit of dialogue we could've seen to hint a similar line that was used with those two that could later be seen with Himmel and Frieren's meetup to get her in would have been nice. We also got another edition of Frieren: Kimetsu no Yaiba with another one getting done in with her power after the demon stole back a sword from a previous demon, with the help of Stark front-lining well. Overall, it wasn't a special episode but it was just the usual, really pleasant one that shows another little piece of the overall adventure quite nicely. Some good action stuff too for the brief period there, not the best the series has offered but still solid regardless.

I really wish this was a 2-cour season though. I love that they have kept the pacing consistent with this season despite it being 10 episodes, but I do selfishly want a lot more this year than just that amount.

Knowing that you are the strongest humanity has to offer, and that even if you battle against the 7 sages at the same time and defeat the strongest of them, you will still die, and you will still become just a footnote compared to someone else who will come later in the story... And yet you still accept a mission like that: if that's not a hero to you, your definitions need updating.

Another amazing episode, especially the 1st part, the revelation that the South Hero actually went to Frieren to ask her to be his partner, but she refused was so like "omg, Frieren knew this person, obviously she knows".
But what was really chilling was how the South Hero, who could see the future, and knew he was going to die if he went to defeat the Demon King, decided to go there either way, because he knew he was clearing the path, for a future hero, that came to be Himmel, to go there, and finish the job. And the fact that Frieren delievered this message to Himmel, who knows how many years later, is just incredible, and shows why Frieren is such a well written and compelling story.

The 2nd half was amazing to see the group in action against a Demon. I'm actualy reading the Aura arc of the manga (trying to catch up with the anime), and it's interesting how this episode had a big connection to it, talking about the other 6 Demon Sages, and once again showing how ruthless Demons are, in this 2nd part, showing that when they achieve more power, they just go destroying villages.
And once again, the story showed how demons are just evil, taking advantage of human's beliefs, just as their faith, asking them to pray for the dead, to just then attack them when they are not expecting. I knew instantly that woman was the devil, and so did Frieren, but it's believable why Stark and Fern didn't suspect it.
As Frieren said, Demons are Talking Monsters.

Also, can we appreciate how our Best Boy Stark was like "nu-uh, don't touch my girl Fern" and saved his girl. Ahhh, the ship is real.

This 2nd season totally deserves the score it has, it's beautiful, and really well directed, exactly as the first season. Can't wait for next week's episode! I'm loving this weekly dose of Frieren, the best part of my week, and I can't still believe it's real!

Edit: Aso, let's not forget Himmel being the GOAT again

My hot take is these types of stories in a show like Frieren is the best ones. We get mini subplots and detours which you may think is a meaningless side quest, but it’s what makes the show great. We aren’t focusing on the main goal Frieren is looking for (important but not the main focus), but it’s the process. That’s my problem with the exam arc, it didn’t felt like a Frieren story that I expected unlike the first half of season 1. Not saying it’s a bad arc, I liked it overall, it’s just stories like this is what makes Frieren amazing.

Days without a Frieren episode making me cry:0 I think this’ll be a consistent issue for me as Milet’s ending is just so beautiful and takes me to another place, truly a spiritual ride at the end of these episodes so far.

Just incredible how even the smallest quest in this series has such a resounding emotional impact. There’s just something so special about how Frieren refused to let Himmel’s effort recovering the sword all those years ago go to waste and how much reverence she still has for the hero of the south opening her eyes to the life changing experience that would be himmel’s party. In a sense, this was her opportunity to repay him for introducing her to the love of her life.

I got a little emotional during the flashback to their first meeting as well, I’m sure the hero of the south feared death, but he embraced it with open arms as he knew it was necessary to ensure humanity’s victory over the demons. His life was a stepping stone for Himmel’s ultimate victory and instead of being sad about it, he welcomed the opportunity to contribute to that and faced it with a smile. What a man.

“Why is that a reason to not eat humans” probably so you don’t end up dead like this lol. Sword demon could’ve lived out her days in peace, but just like humans can’t escape desire, demons can’t escape their nature either. Great fight as usual from Madhouse, but again the character stuff is what makes Frieren special and look at that sheer look of pride Frieren has on her face at the end as she and her party members do the right thing and take out the sword demon. It’s little moments like that that make this series so special to me.

Himmel would be proud of you, Frieren.
