That was a good episode. Supporting my theory, I tried to think of an explanation why this episode's enemy looked the way it looked. All I can come up with is a symbol for Daichi (and his sister's) burden to keep a family up after the Dad has disappeared a mother apparently never existed. So trying to shoulder all that is what they've been doing so far.

Looking forward to next week.

Why did Daichi have to die? He was such a commendable character. I felt so sorry for his siblings in the end having to now live without him. My dislike of Ushio grew with his unnecessary comments though. It will be interesting to see how he'll perform when he's finally in the hot seat.

Next episode looks to be another one with a character backstory and fighting in the end. I'm wondering when they'll start to get around to explaining the many mysteries surrounding Zearth and the meaning of this 'game'. I'm dying for at least a couple more clues.

...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.

This was a heavy episode. Almost had to hold back some tears.... I like Daichi too, he had a great character indeed, and I too am starting to hate that Ushio brat with a passion. Spoiled brat....
Anyway, I somehow found myself thinking.... what if Daichi's father was a pilot when he disapeared too (with that other theory).... seems like a long shot, though
Cyruz you may be on to something... although I can't tell for sure...

The show keeps "winning" so far... looking foward to the next ep.

Another great episode.....even though there weren't any clues given, we did learn a couple of new tidbits, like learning what Dung Beetle can do with the bodies and that new 'players' can join in (and don't have to be kids....I think one of the theories revolved around this).

Ushiro is a jerkass, to be sure, but it looks like he's caught Dung Beetle's eye in some way...and Kana's gotta fit into the picture somehow, I'm thinking, otherwise she wouldn't always be 'called' whenever there's a fight.

Anyway, with 24 episodes, I'm sure we'll have at least a few more like this before *really* delving into the mystery. Can't wait :D
You've come a long way, baby.

I thought the same thing. As far as the enemy is concerned, the fact that it's attack was to roll forward, ignoring everything in it's path may be related to Daichi's plight, how he had to just keep moving forward, not for himself, but his siblings, at any cost.

Interesting thing said about the shape and movement of the enemy and how it relates to the current Zearth pilot. This one was tougher to figure out than the last one. I'll have to pay attention more to the next enemies.

Ushio is a jerk. I hope he follows Daichi's final words to him. Kana is so adorable. Daichi is a very admirable character... the best so far.

And, yes I feel really bad for Daichi's siblings. I hope that the older sister can hold up well. It's also kind of strange that I also thought that the father could have a been a past pilot.

I wonder what's in store for the two new pilots... Dung Beetle's conversation was quite interesting and left me with an impression that there's more shocking things to come.

Probably my favourite episode up to this point since we finally got a character who was actually worth something, so I was actually sad to see him go after seeing how his life was and the dedication and love he had for his family. I was also touched that he even protected the theme park just so his siblings could still go the next day, even if it was without him. Great guy, definitely the best of what we've seen so far IMO.

Argh, it had to be him this early.. Respect to Daichi for taking care of his siblings and for doing things properly while controlling Zearth.. Loved that final scene in the amusement park.. Emotional episode, a beautiful thing hehe..

And now, let's see who's next..

I feel bad for Daiichi's family since now they're going to think that he abandoned them as well. This show seems a bit like LOST with how it does the back story of each character to explain why they are the way they are.

Maybe Dung Beetle is grooming Ushiro to be the next Kokopelli.

Daichi's connection to the Enemy Robot Of The Week, I speculate, was that it seemed to be designed to cause as much wanton collateral destruction as possible, in contrast to Daichi's commitment to protecting the innocent.

i think the enemy is just the opposite of the pilot riding zearth, daichi didnt want casualties, the enemy was made for mass destruction. second pilot(dont remember the name) didnt care for casualties, his enemy was very cautious to not destroy anything or kill anybody.

This is the first character so far I actually could sympathize with and was geniunely sad that he had to die. Ofc I'm not saying I wanted others to die (except the second pilot), but this time I felt sorry for Daichi, mainly because of the family he's leaving behind and also because he was a truly good person.
This anime is really something else.

Great episode once again, with lots of sympathetic/depressing moments. There obviously must be a good reason why Ushiro acts the way he does or i at least hope so. I too am eagerly waiting for his battle and background story in the coming episodes.

Another good episode, but I'm not happy with how formulaic the show is getting. Shake things up a bit!

Sad to see Daichi die. He was truly a compassionate and selfless person. That battle was pretty boring, though. Zearth just carried it on his shoulder for a good couple of minutes.

The development of Daichi's situation was very strong, though. 4/5.

Wow... couldn't help but feel sorry for Daichi and his siblings =/ The saddest loss of this anime so far in my opinion. That feeling when you know you'll die and there will be people left behind, in need of you - and you can't even tell them the truth...

The only one who was unwilling to do it was Kako, and Chizu killed him before he ever had a chance to actually pilot it.

This episode was so sad... I really liked Daiichi, he's really noble and memorable. His dedication to his family is awesome... I mean, how could you tell your sister you're not gonna be there anymore... it has to be terrible.

I also thought that his dad was a pilot previoulsy, but it's kinda strange, because humankind would already know the existence of this game.

This episode really hurt my heart. From the beginning I could tell Daichi was a good guy. What really upset me was that more than likely their father has died already, and I think Daichi realized that. I could be wrong but having his siblings have to deal with that twice, waiting and anticipating for their father (and now Daichi) to come home, it may be better for them just to know the truth...

This one is actually got me to tear up for a bit, why do the good characters have to die so soon. Granted, that one a**hole and his dad died and am still happy about that, but there is still one more a**hole how could of died before Daichi. Also his arc was beatifically done. Bearing the responsibility of himself and three siblings at a very young age. Having hope for a father to return (mother who knows and some curiosity), but having to put it on off for his family. Ensuring his family's life before his own and embracing it like a man. Then having his sister no choice but to accept this lifestyle now. Am sorry, but I think no one is going to top Daichi at this point now. Couldn't that robot appear after the theme park, damn you plot.

Yea, it might of been better off that way, a funeral to say goodbye to give them some kind of closure would of been better. However, this brings up a question. Are we going to see how the family react to the other pilots death? Cause so far am only counting two. Waku and Daichi, granted I won't call it a good closure but I call it something. What's happened to Chizu sister, is the government planning on tell her what the teacher did and that she was pregnant? Did the a**hole's brother take over the business? What about Kako's messed up family, how are they reacting at all really? I got the feeling that they are saying this for something near the end of the show, but at the very least I would like a hint as to wear it might go.

Ok, I literally shed tears in this episode.
How interesting is it that only the dolphins managed to scape the sea. I guess we can say wherever Chizu is, she's in peace.
Daichi's an amazing character. I think Ushio tried to desestabilize him for a moment, saying he was searching for an excuse not to fight (family), but he showed them all his an honorable person and a very intelligent fighter. He never lost his composure, he thought quickly and he even protected the amusement park. He also said he wouldn't attack until everyone was safe from the battle grounds.
I hadn't thought about how Daichi's enemy resembles him, but

reaght said:

agree with you there. Also Daichi carries it on his shoulder, like he did with his own family.
I also thought that maybe Daichi's father was also a player on this game somewhere in the past, and maybe society's memories of it were erased...?
It also broke my heart how he chose to say the same things his father said, but I think this time his family really believe him. Even Futaba, that we saw crying in the end, was probably upset, but I think she understood.

I definitely feel like the "enemies" are other people coerced into joining the game. That's why they all have distinct fighting styles. This one didn't care for protecting the lives of civilians, but an earlier monster was trying to avoid casualties.

It was really sad to see Daichi go. What a great character. :(

My only problem with the series / anime with kids and young teenagers is that they look and act much older than they are. Here, they look older too.
Then again, they didn't lead a simple life, but neither did I as a kid and well... let's say, they are all so brave lol. With 13, I almost cried rivers, when I accidentily jumped on the wrong train and woke up on the border of our neighbour country.
And they are like: I'm ready to die!

I love how the weaknesses and attacks of the monster represent the kids in some ways!
And this was so sad as well. :(

What a cruel episode, doesn't even let him having fun one last time with his family :(

But at the same time, IMO it's better like this because it's not a cliche "spending-your-last-moments-with-your-love-ones" and pretty unexpected. Besides, this route make me not really sad compared to if they actually went with it.

He's one of my favorite pilots so far ever since the start. Mostly because he's one of the decent person and not having pretty f*cked up backstory like others before him.

He accept his fate like a real man. o7

Agreed. Older animation make things (depending on series and situation) more sadder and surreal. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought like this.

This episode was so tragic, I was crying with my abstract tears.. That said, I seriously panicked when the enemy started just flattening everything, for a second I thought they'd make it even more tragic and kill those three. I also want to commend Daiichi's maturity, it was on another level compared to our other group members.

This episode really did a great job of making us care for a character and his family. it's impressive when an anime can do this in 24 minutes while others struggle to in an entire series.
