Hello, I thought it would be nice to make a list of philosophical quotations from Anime characters. Maybe you get interested in an anime when you read an interesting quotation.

Just post the name of the Anime and the character who sait it (if you know, you can add the Episode where it was said)

Here an example:

Texhnolyze: Episode 5: Yoshii Kazuho: "Real freedom relies on nothing. It's fleeting, lonesome and inaccessible. You need to get security and collateral in advance."

If we have some collected, we can sort them by the different branches of philosophy.

What do you think of this? I'm open for new ideas.
Very new Hetalia forum please help to get bigger =)

These three are among my favorite quotes. :D Anime that is... other quotes such as some from The Buddha, Oscar Wilde, and others are also favorites of mine.

"The people of this clan are all the same. You focus on the trivial, and lose sight of what's most important. Change is impossible, in this fog of ignorance. How can we evolve when regulation is all we know?" -Itachi Uchiha, Naruto

"People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define "reality". But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"? Merely vague concepts ... their "reality" may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to simply be living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs?"- Itachi Uchiha, Naruto

"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy’s first Law of Equivalent Exchange. ~ Alphonse Elric, Full Metal Alchemist

I got a few favourites....

"It is my destiny to live forever, though my survival will bring final destruction to the human race. However, it is possible for me to be killed, and whether I live or die makes no great difference. In truth, death may be the only absolute freedom there is." Kaworu, Neon Genesis Evangelion.

but I'd say thats my absolute favourite. I dont know why, but it always seems to stick out. Plus, what kind of forum about philosophical quotes would this be if we didnt at least have one quote from Evangelion? :P

Here are my favourites:

"Solitude is an affliction as grave as death." - Holo (Spice and Wolf)

"Mankind is a creature that no longer evolves, is it not? One theory says that man is a neoteny and is no longer able to evolve. If this is true, then what an absurd creature mankind has evolved into. Not knowing what it is that drives them they keep their bodies merely to satisfy the desires of the flesh. They're worthless, don't you think? That's all mankind is." - Eiri Masami (Serial Experiments Lain)

"If you're not remembered, then you never existed."
- Iwakura Lain (Serial Experiments Lain)

There is no such thing as perfect in this world. That may sound cliché, but its the truth. The average person admires perfection and seeks to obtain it. But what's the point of achieving perfection? There is none. Nothing. Not a single thing. I loathe perfection! If something is perfect, then there is nothing left. There is no room for imagination. No place left for that person to gain additional knowledge or abilities. Do you know what that means? For scientists such as us, perfection only brings despair. It is our job to create things more wonderful than anything before them, but never to obtain perfection. A scientist must be a person who finds ecstasy while suffering from that antinomy. In short, the moment that foolishness left your mouth and reached my ears, you had already lost. Of course, that's assuming you are a scientist. - Mayuri Kurotsuchi (Bleach)
The threat is stronger than the execution.

"Time does not exist. Only the illusion of memories exist." - Seiichi Kirima; Boogiepop Phantom

"The brain is a microcosm creating its own stories. People then live out these stories." - Seiichi Kirima; Boogiepop Phantom

"I still wonder... what the Haibane are. Everyone says that both the walls and this town exist for the Haibane. But, the charcoal feathers are born into this world suddenly, and just as suddenly they disappear. I don't know the reason why I became a Haibane. I'm here, I can't remember anything about who I was. And if I am to disappear someday without accomplishing anything, what's the meaning of my existence?" - Rakka; Haibane Renmei

And the obligatory GITS quotes:

"It can also be argued that DNA is nothing more than a program designed to preserve itself. Life has become more complex in the overwhelming sea of information. And life, when organized into species, relies upon genes to be its memory system. So, man is an individual only because of his intangible memory... and memory cannot be defined, but it defines mankind. The advent of computers, and the subsequent accumulation of incalculable data has given rise to a new system of memory and thought parallel to your own. Humanity has underestimated the consequences of computerization." - Project 2501; Ghost in the Shell

"There are countless ingredients that make up the human body and mind, like all the components that make up me as an individual with my own personality. Sure I have a face and voice to distinguish myself from others, but my thoughts and memories are unique only to me, and I carry a sense of my own destiny. Each of those things are just a small part of it. I collect information to use in my own way. All of that blends to create a mixture that forms me and gives rise to my conscience. I feel confined, only free to expand myself within boundaries." - Major; Ghost in the Shell

"That's all it is. Information. Even a simulated experience or a dream is simultaneous reality and fantasy. Any way you look at it, all the information that a person accumulates in a lifetime is just a drop in the bucket." - Batou; Ghost in the Shell

"Who can gaze into the mirror without becoming evil? The mirror does not reflect evil, but creates it." - Major; Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

"We weep for the blood of a bird, but not for the blood of a fish. Blessed are those with a voice. If the dolls also had voices, I bet they would have screamed, "I didn't want to become human." - Major; Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

"Because of our broken instincts, we are in pain. We continue to be in pain because our instincts have been twisted by reason. So, what are we supposed to do? Should we abandon knowledge? Throw away reason? In any event, that wouldn't be possible. For better or for worse, we ate that fruit of knowledge long, long ago." Welcome to the NHK; Satou Tatsuhiro.
"Hello, Mr. Wind up Bird."
