Post some reasons rant about why mecha sucks: 1. It's just an uncreative way to have martial art fighting in a scifi setting. Seriously, this is the only reason it exists other than because it looks cool. The Japanese are just butthurt because projectile- and electromagnetic-based attacks are way more effective than melee weapons or hand-to-hand. Especially in epic large-scale fights. They should just keep the martial arts confined to historical and fantasy settings or use a more creative excuse like power-armor, or cyborgs, or genetically modified humans, or even fucking lightsabers. 2. They always seem to end up in the hands of the most inept characters. What, they don't have any sort of effective psychological screening process? Those fucking things would cost trillions of dollars to develop and build. Not to mention the collateral damage that could and always is done. 3. The design If you must build a robot meant for war, then, no matter what it's specific function would be, the most effective design is not going to be anthropoid. For fuck's sake, just think of all the money that would be spent on keeping the damn thing upright, not to mention an AI that could coordinate movement. 4. It's cliche Almost all older scifi anime have them and even many of the newer ones. The ones that don't are usually infected with too much moe to be watchable by normal human beings. 5. It's excessively shonen Needs no explanation. 6. Gainax Again, explanation is unnecessary. Feel free to add anything.
1. Not all mecha anime include martial arts or even heavily focus on melee combat. There are many mecha anime out there that are grounded in realism. (See Gasaraki, Ghost in the Shell, etc.) In fact most mecha anime that I watch that aren't Super Robot-esque series almost always emphasize melee being a close range last resort. 2. Mechs ending up in the hands of inept characters isn't always the case. The trope you're talking about is prevalent though, as all anime tropes are prevalent and are everywhere. It is no different from any other trope in any other genre. And actually I think this problem lies in the fact that many shows of all genres of anime feature inept main characters. 3. Yes, most mecha anime employ anthropoid mechs, but there too are mecha series out there that feature more practical designs instead if that's what floats your boat, you need only look. 4. It's anime, what isn't cliche. Nearly everything has been done before and original anime series are few and far between. Despite that there are still original works in the mecha genre, as in any. 5. It's not by any means shounen by default, and your lack of explanation reveals that you don't have any legitimate reasons for saying this. 6. This isn't a reason. I really don't see the point in a group like this. Discrediting an entire genre is closing yourself off from so many opportunities to discover things you genuinely might have enjoyed if you had only given them a chance. There are even mecha anime for your moeblob interests, like So Ra No Wo To. In fact there are all kinds of mecha anime as there are all kinds of anime in any genre, and completely discluding a specific type of anime because you're too biased to really explore it is a complete negative. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you are at your liberty to dislike anything you desire but I am confident that if you really explored the mecha genre and searched whole-heartedly you would be able to find at least one thing that you enjoy, and all it would take to reach that is an open mind.
dude, what are you doing? all of those are valid reasons even if you dont agree with them i have watched many mecha animes like evangelion, ghost in the shell, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Vandread, Escaflowne, Macross, and yet none of them is appeling to me, this genere has always been boring to me. but i have to admit that over the years i find it every day more and more difficult to find a good anime, since BECK or Monster.
