What? Not their Earth? Now that's a weird move, I didn't expect an inter-dimensional or inter-universal change during the fights. o.O
That would explain why no one was able to get a recording of the two previous fights.

Anyway, theory on the enemy as usual :P :
It looks like an enemy they faced already, it's the second one. And Maki's family is having their second child soon. The enemy looks different though, just as different as the new child will look since it's a) going to be a boy and b) going to look more like mom and dad since it will be related by blood and not adopted like Maki.

Going to watch ep 13 now, yay for double releases.

[edit]: Really nice episode.

Cool. My speculations comparing this to Noein from the enemy mechas thread was actually correct. Almost everything would seem to fit together now like the incident with the mech that was cautious not to cause damage, the whole black-out period when they're gathered inside Zearth before battles, and also why they couldn't be seen for some of their fights. Now the question is who's the mastermind orchestrating this whole affair and why? I want to see Dung Beetle's master who he was talking to many episodes back.

I hope Maki will be able to make it in time to see her little brother born alive and well. It's pretty messed up how the time for the kids to fight always rolls around when something important needs to be done like Daichi's final trip to the amusement park with his siblings or now with Maki's little brother.

The conversation with the government official was a small but nice insight as to what they government has been up to all this time. So far it feels like they've been twiddling their thumbs and are at a complete loss due to their silence on all that's happened the past few episodes.

...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.

Yep, our speculations keep coming true. Gotta love that :).
The show is awesome. I was skeptic at first as to how they'd handle so many characters. But they can actually make the views sympathetic with all of them by showing their stories and emotions. Well... all of them but Ushiro. He needs to take a beating... >_>

"He spanked you?"
"But after he finished, he was always so sweet and gentle"..
Buwahahahaha sounds wrong..

Okay enough with the childish jokes, not the Earth they know huh.. So they've gotten into the whole parallel universe thing or somewhere along those lines.. Didn't expect it to be like that tbh but meh, liking the twists here and there.. Gief more explanation plx, next ep.. Fufu

O_O, Goes to watch episode thirteen. It's going to be sad to see Maki go, especially if she doesn't get to see her little brother.

To me, even the 'light-hearted' episodes come off as depressing as hell, since every time the spotlight turns on one of the characters it might as well be a death ray. That was an awesome cliffhanger, and now all that has gotten spoiled in the MAL forums has been caught up with. Heady shit ... the 'away games' happen on parallel Earths, and they're fighting pilots just like them, whose Earth dies when they lose.

Best episode so far. I say 5/5. I'm glad we're starting to see movement in the overall plot again, rather than disconnected character stories. This episode was even a bit depressing when you consider how much agony that girl's parents are going to be in when they discover that she won't be coming back. And the girl not being there to see her brother grow up... ugh. Tragic. I really like the relationship between the children and the female military officer. That conversation she has with the government official was great. And WHAT A CLIFF-HANGER!

Is it just me or does the story of each remaining children less darker than those in the early episodes?

Damn that ending, they just went from regular mecha to dimensional time shifting masterpiece! Shit son this anime is getting real good and it's only in the middle! So I might actually be right that those other robots also have humans in them protecting their earths!?

Oh dear. It seems people were right in suggesting the robots are controlled by other people... I don't see why the robots so far have been so easy to destroy though.

Okay, we broke from the formula a bit, which am happy for. I got the feeling that they were traveling to a different Earth the second they said I don't recognized this place, but I was like maybe they are at a different location Earth is a big place. However, since they said that robots attack Earth I was like "What if they were to attack Earth?" This is getting cool and really really bad when you think about it, because if they lose Earth gets destroyed which means if they win the other Earth is getting destroys. AH, thinking too much into this.

Though I've been keeping up with all the theories about there being other... ''beings'' inside the ''enemies'' and I had some suspicions on my own, I just can't help but feel excited when it all starts to unravell. It's just awesome. I can feel myself tingling for the next episodes!

It's great to see that they're the enemies when it comes to the other Earth they're now battling on. It just makes you think; a hero is a very subjective thing. It also reminds me of this seasons anime Yoru no Yatterman, that presents the Doronbo side of the story (though I'm only in ep1).

Also, Maki's a really cute character. I do hope she gets to at least see her little brother, but I don't have much hope this'll happen. The kid's story are more heartwarming but they seem a lot more depressing too, as we keep wishing that they be the one that didn't sign up the contract just so they can live and be happy with their families, specially the ones that have it roughest. But life is not like this. It's a great slap in the face.

Good that they didn't delay this particular reveal any longer because i'm pretty sure that most people saw it coming and it would have been a poor twist if it had happened at the end.

Not their earth...hope they explain more next episode and not get distracted with the battle. This little guy just reminds me of Kyubey. Wonder if Kyubey was based off of this or was this a thing they copied from somewhere else as well?

"Urushibara Ruka. The mannerisms and voice of a woman... No... More feminine than any woman. But he's a guy. Taller than Mayuri, but so very thin... But he's a guy. Looks great in a miko outfit... But he's a guy. It's already twilight And yet, it's so hot. The cicadas are crying. But... He's a guy."

this show has gradually been getting better, but i wasn't expecting an episode to tug at my heart strings as much as this one did. the writing in this episode felt especially good. i even thought the conversation between the government official and misumi was pretty interesting. starting to understand a bit more why so many people have reviewed this as highly as they have.

They are on another Earth? So don't tell me that all the other mechas they've faced were alternative Earth kids trying to save their own planet?? Man, what a great twist...

not their earth? wasn't expecting that, thought it might be another country... i like it when sci-fi anime get progressively more sci-fi fantasy lol. it looks really cool when they're sitting on chairs seemingly floating above the green blue lit cityscape. wait a minute. if this is not their earth, are they... are they the aliens in this case, and that's why they're getting shot at? is there another group of kids in that robot?

side note, isn't ushiro given an strange amount of screentime? or am i just thinking that? i thought he would be a normal character, and he could still very well be (i don't know) but there's some sort of mystery with that dude.
