I don't know, but I have a feeling Chihaya likes Arata better.

Maybe because Arata was the first person to give her inspiration on who she is now today.

Not only that, she always thinks about Arata, bring Arata to the topic. Even the slightest like Fukui. But I guess if Arata was replaced with Taichi, Chihaya would talk about Taichi too. :/

Mmmmmm. I don't know 8D. I just have a feeling.
I hope they get together *A*.
But.. I won't be really disappointed if she got with Taichi :/. He's okay.

I think it was so cute how Chihaya was his first friend and stuck up for him when no one else would. He inspired her dream of playing karuta. To me they are perfect each other XD Chihaya does always think of Arata which I find really sweet. She just lights up when she hears about him or sees him. I definitely feel like they will get together because they already care about each other a lot ^.^ I will be heartbroken if they don't.

BTW, I really dislike Taichi because he's a spoiled bully. He doesn't deserve Chihaya!

I think karuta poetry answers many questions. We need to understand meenings of hyakunin isshu poems to predict Chihaya's choice.
It would be so beautiful, if she chose Arata

Very good point! I wish I had access to all the karuta poems so I could predict her choice haha. But I have a feeling that she will end up with Arata :)

Star crossed lovers.

I had a feeling Chihaya would be right with either Arata or Taichi in the beginning but Taichi reallyed effed things up for himself. He had so many, COUNTLESS chances but he wasn't man enough to take them. Arata didn't do too hot in that area either but at least he was forced to leave by situation change (grandpa getting sick). If Arata had as much money as Taichi then he would have...

Anyways, it is because things are the way it is that makes the situation interesting ;)

Taichi just seems like a spoiled brat who is always miserable just because he can't have Chihaya. Plus he was a bully and a coward as a kid. He's ungrateful for all that he has. He's smart, rich, has good friends/teammates, girls fawning over him, and gets to spend so much time with the girl he loves. He always seems so miserable and discontent with his circumstances in life just because Chihaya won't reciprocate his love. Taichi's obsession with Chihaya had blinded him to all that he has going for him.

Arata on the other hand had to move away from his friends and the girl he loves, had his grandpa die on him, and has no karuta team to play on, yet he is always able to find a way to enjoy karuta and life with a smile. Then there's the whole star-crossed lovers aspect with the Arata x Chihaya pairing. Oh and unlike Taichi (Manga spoilers):

^This. I came here about to say my piece, but you've pretty much laid out the major points I thought of and more, in regards to Taichi and Arata.

I'm going to add that Arata has a part-time job, and is willing to work for what he wants, which is to move to Tokyo while attending college, to be closer to Chihaya (needing to support himself financially while there too I bet). Taichi on the other hand has always had everything given to him because his family was loaded, never having to work a day in his life.

Another thing I thought of as I was writing this is that Taichi has the emotional support of his team members (at least Oe-san) with his crush on Chihaya, but only because she knows him personally. Arata has none of that, and no close friends besides the ones in Tokyo that he made as a kid (Taichi and Chihaya), both of whom he can't really confide in with his love-life. Yet he still has a stronger leg to stand on, supporting himself, with a clear goal in his romantic endeavors, and in his professional career that he himself has chosen (aiming to become the Meijin). But what does Taichi want to be when he finishes school...what are his goals? Nothing. He'll likely become a doctor or something, because that's what something his mother expects him to do. The only clear goal he has now that I can think of is trying to beat Arata at his own game, and get into Chihaya's pants--to put it bluntly. Don't try to deny it either; remember the time he stole the bite out of Chihaya's spoon? That was an indirect kiss, if I'm not mistaken. At least Arata is a gentleman, and doesn't give off a playboy attitude in his actions.

Arata is also the reason why she found her passion in life in the first place, giving her hope for a dream she herself can pursue. You could even say Arata is Chihaya's light, since he is her goal that she strives for (in Karuta's Meijin vs Queen match, and maybe even love). On the contrary, Taichi only hitched along the bandwagon not because he likes Karuta, but because Chihaya was playing it. If she wasn't, I highly doubt Taichi would ever touch another Karuta card, let alone appreciate the poetry like many of the other characters do who love the game.

I personally think Chihaya has some feelings for Arata as well, hinted when she was doing her poetry homework while recovering in the hospital. With two people loving each other, Taichi is just a fancy gold-rimmed third wheel.

Everyone here said very interesting facts that Arata has a such more better approach towards his love for Chihaya compare to Taichi's. I really appreciate to see Chihaya x Arata shippers are open to share our thoughts and opinions to everyone else ( that's something that we really cherish and let's keep this discussion going. :)

We all know that Chihayafuru is about passion in both a dream ( the future goal) and miracle which symbolize Chihaya and Arata long distance love that keeps them connected and wish for a day to come when they can finally unite together as two perfect lovers should. I'm positive that Suetsugu-sensei is making this story different attentional, it's not always about the guy who's always close physically to heroine ( which is Taichi) but what matters the most is who's the closest of the heart ( which is Arata): she demonstrate that not only does Chihaya thinks about Arata, she also feels him in her heart and Arata give her a special gift that will last to her entire lifetime: everlasting love, oh yes!

Somehow I really began to hate any Chihaya x Taichi moments from the last chapters. I hope in the next chapters Chihaya will meet Arata and look at him without getting distracted by Taichi. After all she doesn’t need to feel guilty for hurting Taichi anymore. He’s back in the game. ( Plus, It is not her fault he was not honest with her in many scenes).

Yup, it's very harsh to see Arata being ignored by Chihaya during their karuta match which was their reunion (it just happen to be at the wrong time for them to play a match together; especially it was inside of the team tournament while Chihaya was the main captain of the team at the time). Taichi really caused Chihaya a lot of pain during his absence: like you said, it wasn't Chihaya fault for Taichi not being honest with her, and Arata paid the consequence from Taichi's selfish act.
Well the worst is finally over, now Chihaya can meet with Arata without feeling any guilt towards Taichi: let's hope by their coming match Chihaya will make up for Arata by giving the match he truly deserves as Chihaya as Chihaya Ayase: a very passionate and romantic match of their lifetime, YES!!!!!!! XD

OMG, Arata seemed to be so inadequate in the last chapters. That’s mainly because Chihaya is still clueless. She pays more attention at Taichi in front of Arata. Of course it makes Arata mad. I don’t want him to go Taichi mode: jealous and envious. Chihaya may support Taichi to win, because he’s her teammate from Mizusawa, and Arata can misinterpret it. I don’t want to see Arata in pain. This tournament is so scary.

I hope Chihaya won’t ignore Arata. She should talk to him after the game and give him advice in how to control emotions if anything goes wrong just like in our favorite chapter!

@Hayama-Mizuki
Well, yes throughout the entire match I couldn't stop from my nervousness in what's to come and yes the results are here: go the manga discussion where can discuss it more there.

Chihaya gave Taichi a tasuki to tight his hakuma: she did that action was a custom as teammates: however like you said Arata can interpret that in a different meaning after all the wait Chihaya already put him through: but knowing Arata he's not those who acts immaturely just because Chihaya isn't giving him attention or placing any guilt on her for doing so: Chihaya actions is really telling us she wants Arata to wait for her the moment she mention her goals was and what she wanted to say to him and she know Arata is willing to wait for her: his patience describes his passionate love he has for her: therefore Let's hope this suspense treatment is only temporary I'm sure, maybe NOW Suetsugu-sensei can give more Chihaya x Arata moments they really desire after we all have been waited patiently for so awfully long.
