amato Takeru was born as Ousu, the daughter of the 12th Sovereign of Japan, Keiko. In the West, he would just be known as Emperor Keiko. Ousu always showed violent tendencies and not much compassion for anyone if they did not earn her respect. The father was one of those people. It was not a time when female leaders were not suitable for the throne, but the oldest son Oousu was next in succession and the younger siblings were assigned to other positions in the court. During Keiko's 18th year reigning over Japan, Ousu was sent together with her sister Ionono to receive proper training as a shrine maiden and eventually take over the position of the priestess Yamato no Hime. But the young woman held no interest in the rituals and her mind was always away on adventure, continuing a hard self issued schedule of training to become one of the best warriors in the country or even the entire World. Although her 'aunt's training fell against a hard surface, Ousu could accept the sister of Keiko and grew fond of the older woman. The Imperial Court was a family unfriendly environment, and Keiko himself not a man who cared much for his children. Growing up in an environment where strict Rules about Behavior prevailed over the bonds of family, Ousu got to know a completely different way of life, and found a mother in Yamato no Hime. Although it was clear that Ousu was not fit for that position, making Keiko very displeased and disappointed at his daughter, she continued her visits, also in secret.
Several years later, the oldest son having shown greater signs of disrespect for his father, than the later could bear, was not willing to wait for his time, especially because he ran the risk of losing it against one of the younger siblings, began a rebellion against the Emperor. Keiko, who still saw his son as the most suitable candidate wanted Ousu to speak some sense into Oousu and had her advance to the Imperial City. But the words were unheard, and Ousu just too readily complied with his wishes of having to remove his corpse from the throne. Better than killing him because he did not wish to attend a meal with his father.... <.<; The young warrior headed against the main force of the traitors with no more than a few couple of soldiers and killed her older brother in single combat, tore his body apart and returned from the battle to overhand the remains to the Emperor. Her father had wished for Oousu's return to the Emperor, and he had no desire of doing this alive, resulting in this outcome. Despite Ousu having held the best of intentions, her father was shocked and disgusted at this immense display of violence and also began to fear her. Although the young princess was at first proud of having served her father so well, she was not stupid enough to not see his distrust and annoyance, and although bewildered about his behavior, she was also a bit sad about losing a part of her family. After this day she was more inclined than ever to let her past as a female behind and honor her fallen brother by taking his Role. Naturally, her father did not like to have the troublesome Ousu instead of Oousu and often wished that she had died instead of the older sibling. Nonetheless, she was given a chance to redeem herself and was ordered to eliminate the threat coming in the form of wild tribes in the Kumaso Region. It was an almost impossible mission, Ousu having been sent completely alone to perform this act, and fighting thousands of troops, while wandering through unknown territories and no time for Rest or supplies was beyond her abilities. She knew that she would die, but unwilling to just jump into her own demise, especially when she still had so much to do, she sought out her aunt and requested assistance.
Although she was at first against the advice, Ousu accepted a rather twisted idea to dress as a servant girl in order to sneak into the middle of the enemy and get them when they were unprepared, and left with clothes and a sword. She managed well, and although some wondered about her partly rough behavior, they were taken by her charm and beauty and she could just easily get them all drunk. When most were sleeping, knocked out by the strong alcohol, she took the opportunity and swiftly broke the leaders head, and hid herself away. Their were still other targets and the opportunity was not ripe. The retreat did not work as well as intended and she still had to fight her way outside, unarmed at first and earning herself the respect of those who managed to come out alive of the conflict. Her final opponent on this task was to kill a skilled sword fighter. Exhausted from the previous battles, she did not see a reason to fight him directly and instead approached him as a random wanderer.
They spent some time together at fishing and some mild sparring. During one opportunity when he was asleep, she just removed the edge and replaced it with wood. Shortly thereafter, she revealed herself to be Prince Ousu and here to slay him, and issued a challenge. The man readily complied, but when he wished to draw his weapon it was stuck and Ousu just slew him. After being quite impressed with her wits although many might see it dishonorable going by modern standards and knowing well of Ousu's performance against the rest of the tribe, he just called her the Brave one of Yamato, and the identity of Yamato Takeru was born. The fame went ahead of her and found its way to the throne and all over 'Yamato', before she had even managed to return to her father's side. But.... he did not forgive her, no matter how capable she was seen in the eyes of the people. He clearly wanted to get rid of her, and use his desire for peace and dominance over the country and not just Yamato, to unify the land to actually kill the troublesome daughter.
Ousu or Takeru as she henceforth was called knew of her father's plans, but could not just disobey him, the sin of killing her own brother still lasting heavily on her shoulders. If not for her aunt's influence, she probably would not have felt the slightest sorrow, but she was thankful for this human attribute. Although her very own sister, Ionono was strictly against the idea, Takeru accepted and ready to set out to the East. Her fate was sealed with this and the "Warrior Prince" ignored all pleads for reason just to be in the last instant stopped by none other than Himiko, and obtained the mighty Ame-no-Kurakumono-Tsurugi, a sword once given to her by Keiko.
Grateful for this divine present, Takeru left once again, but this time tried a more political approach and willingly set out alone for a meeting with the leaders of the enemy. But rather than grasping this opportunity they prepared a trap and lead the naive woman with an attitude into a field before setting it on fire. The flames were closing in and ready to feast on Takeru's flesh, but relying on her aunt's words, she just drew the sword and used it for the first time since human could recall. The winds were under her reign and redirected the flames to her bidding, none could as much as graze her and instead were thrown back to the enemies, swallowing them a whole. After that she continued a violent and fast conquest over the Eastern Lands, but the success and also loss of people she cared about, made her bottle up her feelings of regret and disappointment even more, leaving no more than a facade of arrogance and deceit, that threatened to cost her life, and so it should be.
Hearing about a god causing problems and having already claimed the lives of many, Takeru went by herself to kill the villain, thinking that she could do it without a weapon, and leaving 'Kusanagi' which had since the first time she drew it received a new name by the princess behind. Although she thought the serpent god and managed to slay it with her hands alone, it managed to poison her. She thought for many days and nights against the poison, but weakened emotionally from the loss of friends, the distrust of her father, physically through countless adventures and disregarding all warnings, her body eventually gave out and she died in the 43rd year of her father's reign. Although she never got to know if her father at least regretted his decisions after Takeru's demise, the people in general felt great sorrow about the loss of their Idol and Champion and a funeral was held.
