I know that this anime hasn't really seen a lot of hype, since it's not licensed, and the only way you can get it is through downloading. So how did you come across it?

As for me, my mother was watching it with some of our mutual online friends (yes, we have the same online friends) and discussing it in chat sessions on AIM. She wanted me to watch it too, and I hemmed and hawed a bit, but finally agreed. And boy am I glad I did. I now regret not being there for the discussions (I started watching the series long after they'd finished it) as I'm sure it would've been an awesome experience.

Anyone else?

Gosh, this takes me back. Back in December 2006, it was about ten PM and I was just browsing around stoptazmo for some new series to read. I refreshed the page, and I found a whole bunch of new updates. One of these was Urasawa's 20th century boys. I clicked the link on a whim, and after discovering that there were 21 volumes at the time, I started to read. That was the second time a manga cost me five or more hours of sleep. After finishing 20CB next week, I started to look for more titles under his name, but didn't find any on my normal sites. So when I was looking on ann's toplist on an unrelated errand, imagine my surprise when I saw both 20CB and Monster up there. I then got a torrent of the manga and it was how I spent my spring break 2007.

I watched it earlier this year. I was looking around youtube and just happen to see the name of it. Anyway I looked it up and read the plot summary on it. I though it sounded pretty good so I found the 1st show online. But I didn't finish watching the 1st show. About two weeks later I started watching the anime again and I'm glad I did. Once I started watching it I couldn't stop. It was "Whats going to happen now??" right after another!

I saw a lot of good reviews from this site and animenfo. I read the summary of the plot and it seems kind of interesting. That's when I started to download it and finished watching it like a month ago.

I first came across Monster in its manga format. At that time, only the first couple of volumes had been scanlated and I really wanted to know what was going to happen next. That's when I happened to notice that it was also being fansubbed.

I randomly download anime that is just starting in japan. Do you know how hard it was to wait a week for each ep? I wish I had found this after it was completed. I used to have monster withdrawals no lie.

It was back in Novemberish 2006, i think? or early 2007...i was watching several random animes on Crunchyroll (one of which was death note) and, well, the format of crunchyroll is to display links to other animes under "more animes" right under the anime ur watching so...several times i spotted monster, kept the idea of watching it at the back of my mind...eventually, i was quite bored and curious about it....so i watched it and was hocked since then! :3

I was looking for manga to read, but couldn't find one good enough to satisfy my need for manga. so i started to look in some web pages until suddenly i stumbled on MONSTER. as it had so many chapters i thought this has to be the one. :D and indeed this is the manga i love. its really realistic. haven't seen anime series, but i hope that they are as best or even better than manga. :)

Around marsh 2006, the anime started airing in France and some friends of mine living there started talking about it. I found the 74-episodes pack by Anime-Keep and enjoyed it during two weeks.

Read the manga in summer 2006, rewatched the anime around six months ago.

Still my favourite...
They are neither plants nor animals.
They differ from other forms of life such as the micro-organisms and the fungi. Instead they resemble the primeval body of life and are generally known as Mushi. Their existence and appearance are unknown to many and only a limited number of humans are aware of them.

Monster was recommended to me by a friend. I think I like it better than her now. :3

Still, I wish it would be licensed to the US so I could get the DVDs. :( At least we got the manga, though!

I have wanted to watch this since iv'e become more than a nruto and bleach only watcher. My friend at the time started watching it and after he told me about elfen lied, that became one of my favourite series, he told me about Monster.
I've download the first 5 eps but didn't watch them.
couple of months ago all the members of a forum in my country stated watching it, after a rec from one of the most famous users. I read in his blog that it was really worth picking up again, and so I did.

Well at first a friend recommended it to me so I said I would watch it but put it off for a while cause I tend to not like ridiculously long anime series. But after his nagging I watched it up to ep 30ish or something and put it on hold for a while. I thought it was boring and I told him so but he continued to bother me about it. I am glad he did cause once I picked it up again I marathoned it all weekend. Probably one of the best anime I have ever seen and after I tried getting my other friend to watch it but he won't so much as budge on it, gave it a 5 or something, which pissed me off. Hopefully I bring him back to this epic anime. JOHAN FTW!!!!

Ok, it might sound ridiculous, but I downloaded Monster thinking it was the movie Monster of that hot blond chick, after clicking the torrent link I got a lot of files in my face and I was like WTF. I looked and I found 70ish episodes. I thought it was some lame sci-fi series but I was wrong, I'm so glad I was wrong. I never enjoyed any Anime like that before.

Monster was licensed and broadcasted in my country Singapore in one of the art channels. In fact the channel is still showing a rerun of the season at present. However still few have watched it in Singapore i think. It's so good that it's a pity.

After seeing it recommended on a few manga I read before, like Death Note and Liar Game, I decided to get a few volumes and see how it was, but unfortunately, the heavy dialogue early on put me off for some time. Then after a while, I decided to give it a second chance, and its easily become my favorite manga, not to mention Urasawa's now my favorite mangaka.

I'm just in the middle of watching it, as everyone around was talking how great it is. So, I decided to try it out. The crappy animation annoyed me a lot at first, but then I got used to it, so right now it's probably on my top 20.

My friend recommended me to watch the anime Monster.
At first I had my doubts because it was ''ordinary'' but the opening was so deep and dark that I decided to continue on watching it and before I knew it I fell in love with this anime.
It's dark, there are some funny parts too.And this anime also shows that there is no need for shinigami or any other weird non realistic things for the anime to be interesting. ^^

Recommended by MAL/a friend on MAL & I thought it would try it since it's listed as being similar to Death Note, but ultimately, I preferred Monster. It didn't have a bad ending like Death Note; on the contrary, the last 10 episodes of Monster are my favorites.

3 years ago I was pretty much into anime, I liked shounens more than anything else. I read on a otaku magazine about it, and the summary looked really good, so I bought it ( I used to live in Peru, and even though the anime wasn't licensed some fandubs did the job and sell it)
Then, after watching, it became my favorite anime ever. And my favorite type of mangas is now Seinen :)

I believe it was last year, when I really got into collecting manga seriously. And I saw this series in someone's manga collection on youtube, and he said it was "like Death Note", and that really drew me in. So I picked up volume one and instantly fell in love with it. It's been my favorite manga ever since. Nothing's beaten it yet. :)

I first read about it in the now defunct NewTypeUSA Magazine. When it came out, I bought the first box set of 15 episodes and watched it. After waiting for a long time for more, I found it on a torrent site and downloaded it all. It is a wonderful series, one of the very best I've ever watched. It's easily the best of its genre and a thoroughly entertaining psychological story.

I love psychological thriller genre. A while back I was looking for something serious, dark and suspenseful to watch. I heard a lot about "Monster" and how good it is. I've read the synopsis and it got me really interested. Because the series is 74 episodes long it took me a while to finally watch it. I finished it a week ago and it was the best anime experience of my life.

I had just finished Gunslinger Girl (indirectly recommended by a friend). After finishing the series I was impressed and wanted to watch something similar. Monster was mentioned as I was randomly reading YouTube comments. I was not disappointed and loved the series. I don't think they are similar but a great recommendation nonetheless.

I discovered Monster because of Johan Liebert. He always been top of the anime villains youtube videos I watched so far.And then I am very curious of how much this guy is an incredible villainsMy first impression is he doesnt look like a bad guy at all.
When I did search Monster info on MAL, I was surprised it has 74 episodes and it also rank on top rated list( before it ranked #30) sadly now it goes down on 34 :(. At that time, I was very bored, and then decided to watched it online and man the first 4 episodes are soo good! I felt bad of reading the plot of the story since I know what will happen on the first few episodes and it lose some "suspense an thrilled" factor at first, but Im very glad I did watched it. My eyes are glued on the screen, marathon it.
Johan is indeed best villain and a great character
