I actually liked this episode. Though they didn't explain why his father let him back even though he promised to quit.

Yeah, that detail aside this was still a strong episode. It made me sort of like Chronos...

I like Chronos now... turned out to be a good teacher. This ep. deserves a 5 because of Pegasus.

Nice move Chronos.

I'm also glad that Hayato changed so much within this year and that he can further pursue his dream.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

God this episode was terrible. First of all why are we only now learning that Hayato's an amazingly talented artist? I can't remember that ever being hinted at in previous episodes so it just came out of nowhere and seemed forced as hell. Also why couldn't the episode writer just let him win? He already lost to his dad and didn't get any other duels between that and this episode, yet they had Chronos beat him. Chronos was also out of character here by suddenly being nicer as well as way more serious than usual.

It was just a mass of strange writing all around and they dumped Hayato just to give us that annoying Kenzan character later on as a replacement...

Yeah the show is quirky and has a really simple story. But it is not irritating the slightest and that is really cool to pull off.

not actually tagging bc this is like 4 years old, but i like it as a starting point for my own comment

did you skip the fillers? He painted at the very least during the bla-ma girl episode lol

also chronos has been actively moving toward being more open-hearted and has always been toward people he considered worthy. his whole feud with judai was entirely because he initially thought he was a "slifer slacker" to quote the dub and got lucky. he hasn't really been actively antagonising him recently at all. i assume having seen pegasus himself praise hayato already elevated him to something higher in his head. and the stakes of the duel were just to ensure his whole heart was in it.

i enjoyed this duel, it was simple, using mostly cards and strats we already knew everyone had, so it didn't feel much like the "oh here's the hyper-situational card that we haven't shown yet" that the main story duels love doing. and i'm glad to be getting some character resolutions and development, which is something that was sorely missing from duel monsters excepting kaiba...
