THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I'm pretty sure that whoever wrote the script to the past seven or eight episodes read through the book and decided "You know what? Book Five is stupid. Let me just COMPLETELY REWRITE IT." That is the only way I can explain reformed!Javert, intelligent-and-socially-conscious!Marius, repentent!Azelma and Madame Thenardier, inquisitive!Cosette, and alive-and-happy!Gavroche.

Plus, way to look over the fact that Thenardier does not, in fact, get arrested, but takes Azelma and goes to America to work the slave trade.

Also, a major plot point is that Cosette knows next to NOTHING about her mother or her past before the convent--and yet in the anime, Cosette seems to go out of her way to learn things. I guess they wanted to make her more main-character-ish and less of an...idealized 19th century French woman? But in the process, they've totally remade her character such that she resembles next to nothing of Hugo's original, and for that reason I am starting to seriously resent those, among all of the other infinitely worse, changes x_X;

Not much happened this episode, but at least Thenardier was arrested, again.

Will he really change his ways, tho ?

Very good episode. All the loose ends are wrapping up. It's finally coming to an end. Valjean is such a sweet man.

I was overjoyed seeing Marius not getting tricked by Thenardier and he even had proof of his lies when brought the bandana.
Despite all his crimes, Jean Valjean is a truly wonderful man. Can't wait to see the conclusion of this heart-breaking and heart-warming series!
