Welcome To Camp Hopeful!
Our own little piece of hell.

Written in large blue letter over white background, the painted board greeted the newcomers to the first marine training camp in the new world, situated on a small minor island not too far from Punk Hazard yet almost entirely unknown as the place was to small to have any pull on the magnetic navigation devices, only the marines knew how to get there without ending up in the many whirlpools that dotted the area. The island itself while small had quite the variation in its climate, due to it not having a particularly strong magnetic pull it had a climate as stable as that of the new worlds sea, and as a result the island was known to spawn sudden blizzards on hot summer days, or cause heatstrokes in the middle of winter.

Today was a special occasion, not only had a new batch of marines just arrived by boat, a Vice-Admiral was in charge of greeting them, recovering from the recent battle at Sao, the Vice-Admiral had taken up the duty of overseeing the new promising canditates aswell as train them to the extent he desired. Of the marines who had heard this, many a hope had been lifted and dreams of glory under this infamous vice-admiral was starting to grow in their hearts as they walked in file towards the facilities main gates where a cohort of officers, trainers and other personal was standing in formal stance behind the Vice-Admiral.

((If anyone wanna make a yelp, to announce they are in the thread then they can ASSUME CONTROL of one of the marines parading up towards the gates, if not you can join in at any time.))

Not much did they know that the last batch this man had trained, had all "mysteriously" died climbing the islands volcano, something about base-jumping had been the last thing anyone had ever heard about that particular training session.

Further Description Of The Island, its history and purpose.

Jade made up the rear of the company as they marched along towards the main gate. She stood 5'5 and looked rather fragile to most of the men in the company. With her long black hair draping across her back and her soft eyes, well lets just say most of the men there were longing to tear into her; however, there were some that saw a strength in her that was lacking in most of the others. She had a strong will that only those who shared those same feelings could see and as such those that could see it seems to float to her. She obviously did not notice because her mind was set on becoming stronger and the others around her whether they became her friends or not did not matter to her. For everyone on this very island was a rival in her eyes.

I was finally here. All the work I had put into my life as a Marine had finally paid off. I had been asked to attend the camp where 'men' are made, Camp Hopeful, just a few weeks previous to then and, at the time, it all seemed like a dream come true. Sure, it had been advertised with an awkwardly sexist quote back in West Blue's Main Division, "You're a spineless, pale, pathetic lot; and you haven't got a clue. But somehow, we'll make men out of you", but the advert had been there for far longer than when I enlisted to become a Marine. None of that mattered, though. It didn't matter that this organization was once sexist, or that it still was. It didn't matter that Camp Hopeful considered everyone who hadn't graduated from it a hopeless lot. All it mattered then was that I had finally been able to show enough of my worth to the higher ups so that they sent me to Camp Hopeful to be trained.

There were actually people I knew from West Blue there. Trabo, 'Corkscrew' Jaques, Maka Carliss... and fucking Bola Hun (I hated that guy with a passion, but I'd sooner get imprisoned than get my revenge on him if I tried to do anything to him), who I caught looking over girls' underwear in the girl's locker room. One day I'll have that perverted man under my grasp, and he'll regret ever trying fancy stuff with me...

Soon I noticed the probably creepy face that I was making, imagining how I'd torture Bola, so I quickly patted my face and tried to focus on what was about to happen, as the Vice-Admiral was about to be presented to us recruits.

Here she was...Camp Hopeful. Perhaps Camp 'Hopeless' would be a more apt name, judging from a majority of the folk gathered here today.

Sina stood amongst them. A girl who had been blinded after a pirate raid, but something about her was off. She was blind but this didn't seem to bother her at all. Earlier that day, someone had noticed her clouded eyes and tried to trip her, but got his knee stomped on in reply, along with a sneer. She could have killed him if she had wanted to, but that wouldn't get her far in an organization.

She heaves a heavy sigh as she stands in her place in line, awaiting what would inevitably come next.

Stepping gently from the boat, the world completely dark; I prayed silently. Most people in my position would be ecstatic, but not me. No way, no how would I be excited for this!

I was entering the land of hard-core marines; this land of hopefuls…or rather, the land known as camp hopeful. From the discussions going on around me between the faint of hearted or less difficult, no one was exactly filled with hope.

As my feet touched ground instead of gang-plank, my eyes fluttered open. Bright sun light accosted my brain, sending me almost into epileptic shock. Suddenly, without warning everyone started flowing forward in a fast, uncontrollable stream up the beach, in a particular direction. Being small, and only ten I had no choice but to follow; however, I did have one choice.

“Hey mister, mister!” I attempted to talk to the Marine in front of me, clearly to no avail. So I did the next best thing. Before anyone could react, I was from the ground to his shoulders, looking to see what I could see.

That happened to be a giant blue and white sign that read: "Welcome to Camp Hopeful! Our own little piece of hell."

Being in the same time and looking up at the same sky, If i can remember that, then even when we are apart from each other, I believe that we can be together. I will run forward now. If i set my goal far enough, then someday .. I'll be able to reach what I aimed for.

"Oh gods...it's her again. WHY IS SHE FOLLOWING ME!?" Sina flails internally, thinking about what she must have done to deserve this never ending torment with legs. Even Camp Hopeless looked like paradise compared to being forever stuck with the idiot.

The man apparently didn’t much enjoy having a child perched on his shoulders. It would explain why he was a marine hunting pirate, instead of a villager over populating the world with annoying children, with little intelligence. This was indicated very swiftly, as my feet left his shoulders, the ground rushing up at me quickly.

I could feel a tight pressure around my ankle that vanished as I reached the man’s waist; inevitably due to this, I would end up hitting the ground. Split second thinking saved me from a broken head, and much embarrassment.

“Sugoii!” Tucking my feet in close to my abdominal, I rotated rolling along the ground. As I came back to my feet, I caught sight of a familiar face in the crowd surging in the direction of the sign.

“That girl…” I thought to myself, as the face looking—or rather not, due to her being blind—vanished into the distance. She had been around for as long as I could remember. I considered her a friend of sorts, even though she wasn’t very fond of me. That meant little of consequence though at this point. A familiar face meant answers, or at least someone who I could bombard with questions. I jumped into the air, and began to leap from shoulder to shoulder before landing on-top of the girls head.

“Sena-sama! Where are we going? What are we doing? Waaaah!” my voice had picked up in pitch and speed, as the excitement over-whelmed me.

Sensing a disturbance in the force, Sina took a step back, narrowly dodging the idiot's attempts at landing on her.
Her face contorted into a grimace. "It's Sina. She-nuh. With an I" She replied to the idiot in front of her. "We're going into that camp right there soon enough, and then we will be trained by some of the greatest marines in the world. Now for the love of the Sea Kings, will you be quiet!"
Her fist came down hard on the poor girls head, but only hard enough to get a point across.

My feet weren’t where I had intended them to be. Not at all, thin-air was offal for durability. My feet slammed hard into the ground, causing me to pitch forward onto my face violently; however, that wasn’t the worst part about everything. As I got back to my feet, Sina’s hand thump against my head, causing me to stumble sideways into another marine, who promptly shoved me back in the direction of Sina. I hated pin-ball, almost as much as I hated thin air. It was absolutely horrific, vial, and more than a little childish. Oh well I suppose. I stayed silent, on pretense that if I opened my mouth again Sina might just back hand me right in the kisser, as hard as she could.

The noise was starting to get unbearable. How could a child even get a chance to come train here? Very well, she could be some sort of genius or prodigy or whatever, but she was still too young, rash and would be emotionally unstable for all kinds of exercises planned for the recruits. It all seemed like a questionable decision from the higher ups and, again, it wasn't like it mattered at all. If anything, this was another opportunity for me to train myself mentally by not paying attention to what some kid was doing in order to get attention.

From then on, I was able to completely ignore the little brat. That was until she stumbled onto me. I immediately shoved her back to the opposite direction from where she had came from as if I was disgusted, which I quite possibly could be (not for the kid being here, but from the higher-ups to bring her here). I just didn't see the point in it, but that was when Maka shoved her way towards me, waving her arms, not caring about how embarassing it was for marines to do something like that. Me trying to hid behind the sea of people didn't help either, as she started to yell for me even louder while still coming for me.

That was until she noticed the girl in the fancy dress that the child seemed attached to. "OH MY GAWD THAT'S SOOOOOOOOOOO KAWAII!!", she proclaimed to the world as I was rapidly thrown into the oblivion of Maka's mind and replaced by the blue-haired girl and her dress. I could admit to myself that the dress was indeed cute, but it was no reason for Maka to act like that... I think. Although I didn't want to, I was side-gazing at the dress and at Maka touching and inspecting the dress. I can say that I was, again, embarassed when Maka looked under the girl's dress and got out with a face of utter delight. If anyone asked, I wouldn't know her.

Luckily, this had taken my mind away from the fuss the kid was making.

LISTEN UP!!!

Screamed a thin man standing next to a giant of a man, the thin tall man was wearing a black uniform looking slightly like a nazi officer, his voice was high pitched and annoying, demanding attention and respect like an angry squarrel, he had both a whip and a pistol/sword connected to his black leather belt, his hat had a silver seagull symbol on it, the only thing perhaps proving that he was a marine.

I am drill instructor Yoowai, if you think my name is funny or plan a "humoristic joke" I will warn you I have NO sense of humor!!! Bad jokes will get you thrown in the volcano, and that, IS NOT A JOKE!

Right next to the thin man was the giant marine, standing a little bit above two meters in height and broad as an ox he wore the standard wear of a vice admirial, though his cloak and undershirt was black, it was not uniform and more than likely replacements for his original wear. He had green unkept hair that reached down to his shoulders and a face that seemed to have seen one or two many wars, or bad jokes for that matter, he looked really tired, and bored.

This to my side is Vice-Admirial Heartway! You MAGGOTS have the pleasure of having his honor oversee your training and hopefully your miserable pathetic "ENDS". For the first lessons I will personally take charge, Heartway will interfeer and do as he wishes, no introductions are needed, I do not need to know any of your names, why!? Cause tomorrow it is most likely that you will all be dead!

Without further discussion the drill instructor whipped his hands towards the black metal entrance that was slowly starting to "durr" open. Some of the other black wearing marines motioned for the trainees to come with them, following in file behind the vice and the drill instructor. Once inside they realized they had gone into an underground facility as they were lead down a huge set of stairs build into a natural cavern. Eventually they reached the bottom where another gate was opened up, leading into a warm, air-ventilated space. The place was mostly painted white and light blue, it felt comfortable just to walk through the cooridoors, once a while some marine in a bathrobe would cross their paths at which point the drill instructor forced them to salute. He eventually explained as they slowly started to approach a darker less lighted area where the walls were becoming more grey than white that this facility houses several hotsprings and has therefor been turned into a resting spot for the higher ups in the navy, thus explaining the presence of the bored vice-admiral.

Eventually they were lead into two seperate rooms where a number of bunkbeds where placed along the wall, another door in both room lead into a common shower/bath.(All the participants are in the same bunkroom with several other npc marines that you can come up with or ignore as you please.) after this the vice and the instructor exhanged a few words before the vice passed onwards back into the white area, leaving them with Drill Instructor yoowai.

Listen up you scum, your all gonna die on this island so you better start writting your letters to family and so forth, don't act as if you will survive cause likely you won't! Unpack your belongings and get some sleep, you will all meet outside the facility tomorrow morning, I won't tell you exactly when and if your late, YOU WILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCE!

That is ALL.

((Challenge: Don't be late! Post the time you show up for training.))

The drill instructor was a scary individual, but nothing too over baring. He seemed like the man with a strict demeanor, but a big heart. This was explicated in the way that as we slowly descended into the pits of hell, he begun to explain, that which would have previously been labeled as “needing no explanation…why? Fuck you that are why.”

As he left the bunk room, his warning seemed clear enough to me. If we showed up late, we would have an express trip, and the first opportunity to take a swim in the hottest springs the world could produce…which, seemed to be his favorite threat thus far be it implied or expressed.

My biggest issue at this point, was where to sleep in order to insure I wouldn’t be late. The biggest and baddest of the platoon were quickly taking the most optimal of locations as their own. Big marines, small marines, loud marines…the room was full of them all. I already could tell, I wouldn’t fit in. It wasn’t because I was necessarily a girl, or because I was so small…it would be due to my age. I was a smart child; it was clear in some of their eyes. They didn’t think I belonged; perhaps, it was because I was too small, too immature, and too stupid or to young: it didn’t matter; I wouldn’t be able to make very many friends initially. This meant well, it would be up to me to not be late.

I turned on my feet, after moving to a broken bunk at the back of the room and quickly sliding my bag of one change of clothes inside the foot locker. I moved out the door, and attempted to retrace my steps back to the entrance, the location of the meeting place. I would try to find some ware to sleep nearby, so I could be awaken by the loud stirring marines…this was going to be difficult though; fore, the world in hopeful was a maze within itself.

Jade was only half listening as the instructor led them down into the dark. Her mind wandered home and the other various places she had spent time at while on her journey. She sighed as they entered into their bunk her reverie had been cut short by the pompous wind bag they called a trainer. She looked around and noticed a bunch of the women were picking bunks on the outer edges feeling safer in numbers; however one figure stood out the most. A small child wandered through the barracks and after picking a bunk in the out of the way place she turned and made for the hallway.

"Why is a child here?" I asked one of the others around the group. None seemed to know the answer but to them it really didn't matter. To them they were more interested in the men that surrounded them. Jade rolled her eyes and made her way to the door. Seeing the child not to far ahead she sprinted forwards and called out to her.

"Hey. Hey chibi! What are you doing in a place like this?!" she asked from a distance as she continued to run after her.

I heard someone not far behind me. “What on earth?” were my only thoughts? Why would someone wondor off, when they had perfectly good bunks to sleep on? Why target the smallest and the youngest, as an ally in a world gripped by greed and power. It was nonsensical to say the most, crazy to say the least. I turned, hand positioned so if the person—female or homosexual from the inflection—made an aggressive move, I could attempt the knives throwing trick one of the marines had attempted to show me due to brevity.

“What did you say?” My voice was still squeaky, the vocal cords not yet stretching from puberty; thus, when I spoke aloud my voice was sort of pinched. Never the less however, my voice carried a musical lilt to each and every syllable. It was almost hypnotic in a sense.

At this point, I had stopped looking right at the oncoming Marine.

After catching up Jade looked the little one over. She was tiny and it worried her. Most of the people here were marines that had seen many battle and carried the scars from them but she did not seem to have any.

"I asked why you are here." Jade repeated as she slowed down to a walk as she got closer. "Why is a tiny thing like you doing here?" she asked kind of worried but at the same time she knew that underestimating people could be the death of her one day so she decided to word her next phrase a little more cautiously. "Like why is a little thing like you here were you might die after the first day. You would think you would stay away from this place like the plague.

Sina had a long day tomorrow and so went to bed immediately upon being led into her room. She wakes up at 3am and gets dressed, taking a good 10 minutes to do, and heads out to be trained. Hopefully they didn't decide on some ridiculous time like 2 and she wouldn't have to wait for too long.

It had been quite the day as he eyed all the potential Marine hopefuls, some appeared to be joining because of the adventures, others because of there vendetta against the pirate horde while most were here because they really didn't have a choice. Whatever there reason he was more then happy to join there ranks as they were now brothers in arms. It didn't take long for him to get settled and partook in a game of cards before bed. It didn't take long for him to clean up in this game and ended up taken a good majority of his comrades money. He could have taken more as it was like stealing candy from a baby but he wasn't here to gamble. If he wanted to do that he could have stayed home, he was here for a purpose and wasn't about to give a bad first impression to men that would be training him.

He awoke at about 3:25 and was ready to go in about 5 minutes. It didn't take long for him to get to the training grounds and had expected them to be deserted. His assumption was wrong however as there was a lone girl there that appeared to have been the first one there. He didn't go to close to her and posted up 15 feet to her left as he went through all the possible situations that he could be put through. The thought excited him as this had been the profession that he desired since he was a we lad and the thought that he was going to be fulfilling it excited him.
