This plot is beginning to be boring. However, the conspiracy against Kaishu has been progressing and Itsuko was kidnapped.

Looks like someone in the team likes animals. This episode was full of animal shots. I wonder how Yahiko managed to read those science books since they weren't in japanese... Anything to look smarter than Sano. Well, you don't need much to do that.

I'm liking it well enough. This "filler" is good as long as it's small mini-arcs like this, and not asinine BS like that that episode where the chick at the Akabeko was trying to set up Kenshin and Kaoru.

I like these small filler arcs so far. The Christian story was pretty good, and this one is turning out good too. I liked that we're finally seeing character development from non-Kenshin characters, like Yahiko learning science, Kaoru trying to cook, and Sano becoming religious and falling in love. It also shows the passage of time as Japan becomes closer to the West. As others have mentioned, as long as the creators aren't doing terrible comedy, it works. I just generally like slice of life things though.

In this episode, I really liked all the shots with the moths, perhaps a representation of the old man's death upcoming? The one scene with the dead moth being devoured by ants was surprisingly grisly.

I love that they focus more on the story this time then only battle. And in the Kyoto arc not all fights were good either. So, we can see the Mangaka have made improvements.

Nop; everything after Episode 62 is filler, written by the staff of the Anime. The best of the Author is the Kyoto Arc as a whole, and the character development made in the Tsuioku-hen Chapters.

The Tsuioku-hen OVAs adapts a few Chapters in the Arc after Kyoto, but they were altered to be more realistic and dramatic. The Seisou-hen OVAs very loosely adapted a few Chapters of the same Arc as Tsuioku-hen, but is majoritarily filler too.

@Alexioos95 It's weird because I thought 79-82 were cannon as it seem to be the information provided everywhere I saw.

Quick edit: It seem they are adaptation from a Light Novel; not sure if the Mangaka himself wrote them. They might be cannon if the author had confirm it but at least it is from material from a published Rurouni Kenshin story.

Ah, my bad; i didn't looked up the exact number of the episode before answering.

That Light Novel was written by Kurosaki Kaoru, so it's assumed by some to be Canon because she's the wife of the original Author, and that it does not directly contradict the story of the Manga. However, it never was officially confirmed to be so, and the original Author was not officially involved either (even as a supervisor), so its status is not clear, and most in the community doesn't consider it Canon.

It's also not really consistent, as everyone, without debate, consider the Amakusa Arc to be filler, while she also did wrote a Novel for it.

@Alexioos95 Wait, Amakusa arc was also adapted from a novel! Was it good because now I am tempted to watch it?

More precisely, it was made for the Anime, and later was remade into a Novel.

It is. It's not on par with the Canon part, but it's still by far the best part of the filler's season, and many wish it was Canon.
