I'd rather read the phone book than Twilight tbh.

But since I'm not that big of a reader (at all. srsly), I guess I only have one book to reccomend; Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

Hell yeah, that's my favorite Stephen King novel.

Also, I felt Mein Kampf, terrible as it is, is still a challenging read that gives insight into one of the most powerful military minds of the Twentieth Century.

Stephen King's It is well... Let's just say I don't like clowns anymore. Stephen King is one of my favorite horror authors. I'm proud to be a fan of his. Check this out. Stephen King vebally assaulted Stephenie Meyer's writing in an interview.http://blogs.usaweekend.com/whos_news/2009/02/exclusive-steph.html

Mein Kampf is challenging to read. I'd be disgusted trying to force my way through that book. But I get what your saying, going into the mind of Adolf Hitler and all. Even that book's better then Twilight, but it may be an exaggeration.

Wow.I've read all of this and I have to say you have great tastes.Someone once told me that Twilight is a book and it doesn't matter how it's written as long as it attracts readers, because the ultimate goal of a book is to be read and liked.Which is,of course, unfair. There are a lot of great books that aren't commercial, that aren't about sugary love and therefore are relatively unknown.

Another list of good books:
Jane Austen-Pride and Prejudice
Emily Bronte-Wuthering Heights->a great example of a romance book.I can't believe that Meyer compared her characters(Bella,Edward,Jacob) with Bronte's cast.
Miguel de Cervantes- Don Quixote
Dante Alighier-The Divine Comedy
Charles Dickens-Great Expectations
Gustave Flauber- Madame Bovary
James Joyce- Ulysses(not as easy to read)
Franz Kafka-The Trial
Thomas Mann-The Magic Mountain
Marcel Proust- Remembrance of Things Past
Leo Tolstoy- War and Peace
Virginia Woolf- Mrs. Dalloway
Henry Miller-Tropic of Cancer
Mary Shelley-Frankenstein
Isaac Asimov-Foundation
Philip K. Dick-Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

heres some of my favorites

vampire kisses by ellen schreiber:
Sixteen-year-old Raven, an outcast who always wears black and hopes to become a vampire some day, falls in love with the mysterious new boy in town, eager to find out if he can make her dreams come true.

bad kitty by michele jaffe:
Wannabe detective Jasmine is on a family vacation at Las Vegas's Venetian Hotel. When a runaway cat attacks her, she finds herself in the middle of a real-life mystery involving a famous model/actress, her fugitive husband and a very handsome young man with a British accent. Jas seems to attract catastrophe. Other characters, including her fashion-savvy best friend, who drives a van called the Pink Pearl, and an unlikable cousin, who considers flavored lip gloss dessert, come along for the ride, offering assistance and often also ending up in trouble. Even so, it's hard not to like a book with a bow-wearing bodyguard nicknamed the Fabinator and a main character who grew up playing Barbie Crime Scene.

fourtunes fool by mercedes lackley:
Able to move about on both land and water, the Sea King's seventh daughter, Princess Ekaterina—called Katya—serves her family as both ambassador and spy. When a mission to the realm of Belarus leads to her meeting with Prince Sasha, seventh son of the king and accounted a fool by all, she suspects that he is something more, but a greedy Jinn seizes Katya and traps her in a castle with his other royal prizes.
it's so wonderful having sane friends. i imagine.

im so pleased you posted this, there are some brillient titles here.

I really want to read "lolita" and also "The Second Sex" but they are quite adult in nature and i dont think parents would let me read it, does anyone know where i can read them online or from a library? I would rather reward the authors but i cannot.

Thankyou

oh i forgot the most important point of replying, recommending books.

Start off with basics like some Austen,Bronte and Dickens

then:
-Moonfleet by Fawlkner (cant spell sorry)
-Oscar Wilde
-Sherlock Homes
-Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy i think?
-Paridise Lose(its very hard and you must read it aloud to stop skim reading go on i challenge you! read it while moaning in bed with swine flue!)

those ar ones suggested are my favourites
and abandon teenage fiction its getting worse and worse! only books worth reading is "His Dark Materials"

happy reading :)

I truly, definitely, extremely suggest that you all read other vampire stories...
I recommend the Cirque Du Freak series (there are 12 books, more than the stupid Twilight) it has a good vampire story and absolutely no romantic hentai in it... i guarantee! ^^

The series is actually called the Darren Shan Saga, and I agree that it is so much better than Twilight is. I was lucky enough to buy all twelve books from a school magazine for £24.99.

The Demonata by Darren Shan is also a great series to read.

@alwaysbored: The Hunger Games is great! A gazillion times greater than Twilight. They're both targeted at the same audience, and I will never understand why Twilight is more popular than the Hunger Games.

I read Eyes Like Stars: Theatre Illuminata Act I today by Lisa Mantchev. It's really good too (it had a recommendation on the front cover by Suzanne Collins, that's part of why I tried it out). Now I'm recommending it to others too XD I also reviewed in on my blog here, in case anyone wants to know more.

Here are some books I recommend:

Brain Droppings, Napalm and Silly Putty, and When Will Jesus Bring the Porkchops- All by George Carlin. GEORGE CARLIN. Nuff said.

Anything by Dan Brown. Yes, his books are a bit overrated themselves, but they are enjoyable and engaging stories nevertheless.

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. I haven't read this in a long time, but it's a great story, and deliciously controversial to boot.

Harry Potter series. Also a bit overhyped, but still very fun stories to read.

The Sword of Truth series, by Terry Goodkind. This man is a top-notch writer.

Artemis Fowl series, by Eoin Colfer. A twisted, intelligent, and humorous series of books involving an adolescent amoral boy genius and faeries.

His Dark Materials trilogy, by Philip Pullman. Dark and engaging fantasy series.

Holes. It's sort of a children's story, but a highly engaging one.

1984, by George Orwell. Depressing, but highly intelligent and engaging.

Anthem, by Ayn Rand. Another "negative utopia" type story, but it has a happy and uplifting ending, unlike 1984.

The Blue Girl, by Charles de Lint.

You Don't Know Me, by David Klass. This one is also for younger readers. It was my favorite when I was in my tweens. It's a story about a teenage boy whose stepfather beats him. In spite of the depressing theme, the author manages to maintain a sardonic sense of humor throughout the story.
