The sushi thing got on my nerves a bit. It seemed pointless and completely implausible. I know HXH has its lighter moments, but at least it always makes sense - except for this.

This was... ...pointless.
Yes, yes, she camouflaged it with "observation" and what not, but this was just a cooking contest! No relation whatsoever to what a hunter does... and what is it that a hunter does anyway? I wish they would explain what they want with the series already.

It was still quite amusing... Especially the bit where everyone just looked clueless and said "What the hell is sushi?"

I doubt more than 1 in 300 candidates actually wants to be an Epicure hunter, having a test only one of them has any chance of passing is just asking for a revolt. I don't know how she's going to avoid the lynching she so richly deserves, though I suspect her partner will probably protect her.

the big guy was rite, when she gets pissed, her original criticism (chef) comes out, not the examiner criticism .
and lol at kuripika, he'll do whatever it takes to not be associated with the other guy, telling him he's useless is like saying to vegeta he's weak, shameful.

No way! She can't be serious. I'd understand if it would be exam to become Gourmet Hunter, but as i recall there are many other hunter types and judging applicants by abilities that is essential only to one particular hunter type isn't fair. Or is she just picking a fight?

Eh, I don't think the humor from the manga translated too well over here but there were some amusing moments, the biggest ones I recall being exclusive to this version. Mainly, the stuff with Hisoka. Got a big laugh out of his trip to the river after seeing Killua, who prepared the same dish, fail.

No kidding, this is making me appreciate the 2011 remake even more with each episode.

As for the episode itself, it was amusing but definitely feels dragged out. Hisoka's moments were hilarious, gracefully catching a fish with his mouth and then walking out calmly to sulk when Killua made the same dish as him.

Hisoka makes the same fancy thing as Killua and gets all depressed ROTFL (⌒▽⌒)

P. amusing, especially the second half. I love how a Japanese-made story has a subplot in which no one knows the japanese thing (but the Japanese). It's super dumb but a kind of dumb I can enjoy.

Everybody complaining about this episode being pointless. Ugh. Who cares if it was pointless. It advanced the character development and gave us a light-hearted episode to laugh at. Comic relief is a welcome occurrence in my opinion. I really enjoyed it!

A lot of older fans were complaining in the 2011 discussions of how they missed this and that in the hunter exams etc, etc..

Lol, don't get me wrong, this episode was funny, but it only further cements my opinion that 2011 was the masterpiece of the two.

I don't usually watch shows with much stock for animation, but coupled with all the things 2011 did well, it's no contest for me which was more entertaining and engaging based on what I've watched for now.

I found this round quite annoying, even one of the characters said that it isn't fair because everyone has different tastes in food, which is true. The fact that sushi was unknown by most participants also made it unfair. I get that the hunter exam gets passed by one person in 3 years but I still think it's too challenging to cook something you've never seen and most of all, never even heard of. I still liked it though.

I'm quite curious about what they'll do in the next episode, since this one ended with all of them technically not passing. Of course, I'm sure they'll find a way to turn the tables because otherwise, the series wouldn't take place anymore, right?

I found these scene and character pointless in 2011 version and I still think they have no value.Like what is the bitch there for?To make a joke about ''small island country'', cooking or just to make atmosphere less tense before introducing Netero?Probably the last one, though it's still not the best way to do so.

Kura: Clearly the volume he ate is much more than his whole body.
Leo: Well, you don’t have to take it so seriously…

That joke was almost kind of meta. I can appreciate this kinda humor.

Buhara and Menchi are like to extreme opposites, one is very relaxed and everyone passed, and the other is very strict and no one passed. Menchi yells a lot, but she’s sexy. So, no one passed.

I'm sad this was cut from the remake. It's absolutely hilarious. I knew something felt a little off with the boar challenge I'm the remake. For how many things the remake did better, it sucks that it cut out the whole sushi challenge and kite's intro (the whole first chapter being skipped is weird).

I'm not a fan of any of the 99 filler so far though. I'm looking forward to seeing what's added, but the filler based changes that go against the reboot / manga do bug me so far (like the tree bs)

This episode is pretty funny! They really added a lot of color to Mench in particular. The manga and 2011 versions don't do a great job of explaining why exactly she acts so poorly as a test proctor or why anyone should respect her. Ultimately this part of the series is relatively unimportant so I know why it gets reduced but still, this is nice.

It was also very funny that Killua tried some bullshit and that Hisoka also tried the same nonsense. But to be a wet blanket about it, it is extremely out of character for Hisoka.
