| If you were Hachi, would you be able to eat Pork Bowl? Would you even name him in the first place? Or would you be a vegetarian? I could see myself having a favorite and then naming it but I wouldn't be able eat it. I would send it to the slaughterhouse knowing I did my best raising it to be good meat. And then tell myself not to name the next one, only to have the whole cycle start again cuz I have a soft spot for the runts. >_< I love meat so there's no way I would be a vegetarian. |
| i would simply eat it because i dont consider pork bowl as a pet, but as food i know this sounds really zynical and cold from me, but this is the way i am, i love meat too much to abandon it. though, i would definetly pay my respect to the animals by eating all of them and leaving the less back on my plate. whenever i see other throw food away, i will rage really much, simply because they degegnerate the value of the food. (i mean they just could take less on their plate or cook less) |

That would mean every ranch would be out of business - if you eat everything you personally raise knowing it's for food, you'd have to eat all your livestock rather than selling it to others to eat. Also, I don't like that this show advocates so hard toward the "all ranchers kill and sell their livestock at it's prime". It's not true - there are a lot of ranchers who DO name and keep certain livestock as pets and let them die naturally of old age, even burying them after rather than chopping them up. Obviously you can't do this often - but one pig or one cow out of your entire line up is totally acceptable. The school owned pork bowl, so obviously it wasn't a choice in that specific situation for Hachi, but the whole show likes to pretend no people who own livestock actually keep any as pets. |

I kind of interpreted this thread in the sense of would you be prepared to eat it rather than in the sense of would you be the one to eat it, as that's what the OP seems to be talking about. |

| I don't think any of the students family's can actually afford to keep one as a pet. Beside's the fat girl's family the other farms don't seem to be doing very well. |
