| Because Binchou-tan is a pun on binchoutan: high-grade charcoal produced from ubame oak (Quercus phillyraeoides), and the same word abbreviated in binchou with the suffix tan, usually applied to young girls. It's a personnification. |

| The thing that holds up Chiku tan's hair is bamboo charcoal. Her page says "She is named after takesumi; bamboo charcoal, as chikurin means 'bamboo grove'." For Ren tan, idk really how it shows on her but her name is also connected to charcoal. |
