Okay, let's have this topic be the bitchfest of the anime series.

I'll start. I hate the amount of character building scenes that were cut out. But then I've made this known since the Cult storyline.
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?

Well I've bitched about the shift in tone (and how I think the manga captures it way better) several times now on both the wall and the ln/manga/anime discussion forum. Basically the anime feels more like your average slice-of-life high-school melodrama (just set in college), while the ln/manga feels more like a life of actual college kids (or at least a way over the top version of it).
But right now its hard for me to bitch some more, since I'm following the ln translation, and its now lagging behind, so I can't really complain about stuff that I can't compare to the original source. ... I think this is the first time I actually wish I could read Japanese. (Any other franchise I followed was either translated faster, or someone posted a comprehensive overview of the untranslated parts, that I did not feel, I'm missing out. I could absolve the spoilers while waiting for the actual translation.)

All I dislike is the few character building scenes that were cutout, and the change of location of some scenes. No biggie really, all of the story is coming through fine with the adaptation (from the manga at least).

I will have to say I was expecting more in the way of college themes, like classes, professors, clubs, etc. Like you said Cruel, it just seems like a high school slice-of-life but without the uniforms.

Yeh to some degree. It is still a top-tier romcom so far in my opinion.

Oh I'm not saying its bad, just that it could be way better if the studio would be brave enough to have a more faithful adaptation, because every time they change a bit they usually take away the uniqueness and add some generic stuff.

But that is largely absent from the LN as well. One of the author's note sections actually has a comment with something to the effect of "When do these kids study?" She admits that she is, basically, neglecting their education in the writing of the story. LOL

The fact that some of the drinking parties have been toned down is really the only part that decreases the "college atmosphere" of the series, and I have actually seen high school based stories (anime and manga) with a similar amount of drinking, or at least with drinking as a fairly major plot point at some point in the story. ("Girl Friends", one of the finest Yuri manga around, has a section where the two main characters drink together privately which leads to a major plot development and one of the main characters past actions when drunk lead to a whole bunch of complications due to the other main characters reaction to it.)

Anyway... I'm loving the anime. Yes, they are skipping some scenes and re-arranging things, especially with the flashback scenes, but I don't feel that it is missing the tone. I did feel the manga missed the tone quite frequently, shooting for humor over emotion. The balance is best in the LN, but the anime is doing a good job.

In particular, the arrangement of the flashback sequences in the anime is superior to the LN, in my opinion. It really drives the story better...

There are very few college based mangas out there. I was wondering how the college in Japan is difference, or same, as a US college.
