Suggestions as to which individuals/associations/political parties/corporations/nations/abstract entities ought to be firebombed, should go here.

No fighting, please.

You best be trolling. Or is this a rage thread?

(anyways I'm happy we at last have a forum thread here.)

This thread is for me to post things like this:

GREAT PROMULGATION CAMPAIGN

In service of the One Great Cause, the noble boddhisattvas at Musashi Quality are translating Sketchbook into English. They're fairly consistent in getting out a couple chapters every week or so - well, they are presently, anyway. If this ceases to be the case at some point in the future, I guess I'll just have to edit this post to reflect that. They've finished the first three volumes and the 'Shucchouban' (bonus volume) as of this writing, and are working on the fourth.

Also, there was an animated television series produced, under the inexplicably pretentious-sounding title Sketchbook ~full color's~. SpoonSubs did the subtitles for that. If, you know, maybe some of you are interested in anime, or whatever.

I myself liked the anime series, for it being quiet and relaxing and it provided a nice pace change after each couple-or-so of Code Geass episodes.

What Sketchbook the anime did right was to be made by the same crowd who did Aria and managed to infuse the same feeling of "gentleness" into the story. Probably one of the more underrated series around.

I've pointed out elsewhere that I did like the anime, an awful lot, actually.

However, insofar as I wasn't totally bowled over by it, my major aesthetic dissent from the animators is that they did in fact make such a conspicuous effort to recreate Aria's atmospherics and general method of operation. That's not a bad idea if you're just adapting the traditional-format chapters (like in the bonus volume), but I don't see it as a terrific way to render the four-panel chapters, which are Sketchbook at its purest, after all. If they had aimed for more of a unique spirit and comedic tone rather than preoccupying themselves with being relaxing and calming, I think this series could have been as relentlessly funny as Ichigo Mashimaro or Azumanga Daioh (or Muteki Kanban Musume, although I've never seen evidence that anybody other than myself and VK-Knopfler think that's the best show ever).

This is mostly kicking a gift horse in the mouth, obviously. For what it is, full color'S is extraordinarily well made, and doesn't really warrant or deserve reproach. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing an OVA or something with a bit more of a mean streak, and a tad more chaos and complexity to Kajiwara-san's character.
