already finished the episode

nice to see more of the environment (other than the towns/cities) ... the forests appear to play a larger role than just being a carbon sink

and there's more of the buying/selling of the carbon market which is great ^_^

"I'm not part anything but.. I'm fully transsexual!"

"Oh, I did grab the "gold".. just not at the olympics"

That little convo in the jungle between Kuniko and Momoko was funny, I rofl'd!

Surely, Momoko amuses me the most. Just keeps getting interesting. That lady Ryoko or whatever sure is ugly and I wouldn't want to get on Mikuni's bad side, although she looks cute, she sure is deadly as hell.

I laughed a lot during this episode.

"And the enemy?"
"Polka dots."

I would've loved to have seen "that" too! =D

It was nice to see the jungle. Looks very wild and strange.
The series is interesting. But it's really not catching my eye. I hope it gets better, because I have high hopes for it.

I stand by that the thing in the bowl looks like a Pokemon.

I wasn't so sure after watching the first episode that I'd pick up this anime. After seeing the 2nd I think I'm sold. Which is strange due to the first episode kicking alot more ass... /shrug.

Wow, CR realises that they cannot beat the fansubs... I still prefer to have it on my hdd rather than stream it.

Me like this episode a lot! Some things I learn:
Medusa is being used in a loop hole as in tricked to work (but is really to Medusa hole to escape) after work done Medusa come back to place it stuck at.

Atlas think the artillery is super new weapon. Still don't know who Klaris really is nor Zhang nor Tarsian. LOL @ Klaris profile....."Like rich..hate poor"

Part with Mikuni freak me out. Lady got crushed by invisible power? Ryoko almost kill Sion??? She not right in head...denpa (mean something close to insane)! Fight of jungle and all that good! I like name Ikebukuro...swamp. I am starting to like Karin's face.

Lord of Atlas look scary!

O_O Power scary of Mikuni

Anyone have refrences to suit used by Atlas. It remind me of other anime using model like that.

We got a lot more info on how Karin and the others operate, at least I didn't quite get only from the pressure she applied on that random 3rd world country on ep1.

Here's my view on what they do, hopefully it's half right:

They use Medusa to find a country with a particular high carbon debt, such a country doesn't attract foreign investors and its economy stagnates, the carbon debt amount is certainly top secret info, so Medusa is a central part of the process.
They make a deal with the target in order to clear their debt, most likely using a system of transferring carbon credits from a country with surplus in a similar way the Kyoto Protocol works. using Medusa's power to hack into the regulating agency's database and deleting it. They also make money from this deal so they're profiting on all levels.
Before the country starts attracting huge investments they invest in the country themselves, buying practically everything at a very low price.
They watch as the foreign investments start to flow in and the price for land and commercial and industrial structures skyrocket, the increased production most likely raise the country's carbon debt again, which mean later the prices will start to drop again.
When Karin feels the prices have reached their peak, they sell everything they've invested in, for humongous profit.

Other than that we have some symbolism on how they need to keep Medusa feeling it's trapped in a small island and the carbon debts are waves that can sink it if they're too big and etc.
Also I don't think the whole process would take less than 5 minutes, but let's just leave it at that.

I didn't understand all yet like with Karin and this Medusa system (it's normal with only two episodes) ... but i enjoyed very much this episode ! \O/

The end with the Lord of Atlas is really frightening. =O
(and even the power of Mikuni Oô)

A very good episode ! =)

Hmmm so the animation couldn't stay as good as it was on the first episode eh? Well, that was expected, but at the same time, the script starts to be interesting with a lot of different groups fighting for power and loads of characters to develop. Still, there are a lot of unneeded scenes and strange humour, but this second episode was very enjoyable overall, and Shangri-La seems to have a nice SF setting mixed with ecological concerns (let's hope it doesn't end like Origin...).

Anyway the whole gold and silver conversation and then the military guy running in asking about it was great.

I'm not really getting the relationships between all of the factions, and the whole little economic spiel in the beginning was a little too much, so I feel more in the dark than I did in the previous episode. So, this was just an ok episode.

The attack at the beginning didn't look like it was from missiles or artillery nor did it look like it was a laser weapon. The way the objects just floated in the sky then shot down made it feel more like needles or sharp objects. Explosions only happened when the objects hit buildings too. I wouldn't be surprised if the knives are tools to harness a natural weapon.

As for the lottery and the relationships between factions, what is possible to see so far is the following social status ranking, from top to bottom:

Mikuni
Atlas Corp. (Ishida Finance at a similar level/isolated?)
Government/Army
Atlas citizens/employees
Regular citizens

The lottery is a way for regular citizens to ascend in social status, but it's most likely not random and manipulated by Atlas.

Among Atlas Corp. members there are many subdivisions that further determine their social status, this is shown when Mikuni's retainer shoots the couple's car with an anti-materiel rifle and, after checking the male's citizen ranking upgrades him to AG from BC, so that the guy who got the nerve to stand in Mikuni's way didn't have such a low social ranking, since it'd actually embarrass Mikuni. I'm guessing the promotion went: BC -> BA -> AZ(?) -> ... -> AG.

We're most likely getting more info in the social system next episode by watching Mi-ko, who I think is voiced by Norio Wakamoto, as she is granted Atlas citizenship.

With this I've explained two of the plot's more difficult sections(there's a post regarding Ishida Finance's M.O. on the 1st page). It's too early to start elaborating on the relationship between Mikuni, Kuniko and Kunihito, as the only points in common we've seen so far are the daggers and their names.

I also love this series ... BUT your second line ... I must say I complete disagree =.=

That world is assuming a heavy carbon taxation market is in place (in order to reduce greenhouse gases) ... currently, some European nations have that tax system (well more like carbon trading where you can buy and sell a certain amount of it) ... but that system is not loved everywhere around the world ...

Crowded! One thing for sure that it's crowded but catchy and refreshing at the same time. Very refreshing actually. I liked the fact that they took a traditional location and modernized it for a setting. There seems to be many enemies in the story. The main character seems melancholic and brave too.

exactly what i though.

personally i thought this episode sucked. Didn't like the first much and this was even worse. The plot is interesting cause it's really odd but it's all over the place and constantly introducing random new things. Some of the chracters designs are truely horrid and some of the worst i've ever seen, as well as i don't like any of the characters in the series so far except the girl with the different coloured eyes. Probably because of the way she killed that lady :P only bit i enjoyed the whole episode.

It's interesting to see someone criticize the character designs like you're doing, velcom, since they are certainly a important point of the series and one that attracted a lot if not most of its viewers on this side of the globe. The artist, Murata Renji, is famous for previous successful works along with GONZO, so that's what set a lot of people's hopes high for this show.
The setting is certainly odd, but the plot is proceeding at a nice and fast pace for a 3 month show, since it's managing to introduce a lot of particulars about the setting and characters in quick succession and without explaining everything directly to the viewer(which for many people is a bonus), it does, however, require some attention and knowledge in order to understand what's going on.

I don't see how people can be appealed by those designs 0_o, i'm also curious what series you mean by successes. from my view gonzo haven't had a success in years, they have pulled out of the stock markets and i heard they may possibly go into bankruptcy. And from my view that all makes sense since the three worst series i've seen this series were all there's and i've already dropped 2 of them.

I still disagree about the plot aswell, i personally love deep plots and ones that don't explain everything to the viewer but the fact is there's only been 2 episodes in this and they have introduced so many different things that it's just a mess. And according to mal it's going to be a 24 episode series, thats more than 3 months.

@velcom
I just noticed the fact that it's a 6 month show, so the pace they're presenting everything might be indeed a bit fast, hopefully the show doesn't run out of material and we have a bland half to end of it filled with action scenes or something else to spend time.

Murata Renji and GONZO's previous cooperations are namely: Last Exile, in which he did both mecha and character design; character design for Blue Sub #6 and mecha design for Solty Rei. Most of his female protagonists are tomboyish short haired adolescents, and his work often combines art deco with japanese traditional artistic elements.
I'm saying this from the standpoint of a long time fan, but I really believe that he being part of the staff was the most attractive point when news of the series' production started spreading over 6 months ago.
Of course the original designs have much more quality than what gets to the tv screen, so if you're willing to you can try to take a look at one of his artbooks or other works like Robot.

Mmrph. I'm still not sure whether I want to continue watching this. The character art (which, though I loved Murata's designs in Last Exile, didn't look so great here in the first place) is already going off model. At least, that's how it appeared when I watched it on CR (again with the audio/video synch problems too, geez).

As for the plot, I know it's still early, but I've yet to be hooked.

ah sorry didn't realise he was the last exile artist, but still like senna said i think they are poor character designs even originally. And i think 6 months is plenty of time for a good plot unlike 12-13eps. I think they could be spreading the plot out more for the beginning.

I think its a little early to judge the plot thus far in the series. we've seen a grand total of 2 episodes out of 24. For all we know they could be squeezing all this plot in at the beginning because they had so much more stuff to fit in later.

Anyways! I completely love the scenery in this series it feels so original and refreshing.

Awesome pics. I totally agree with you. I think it's too early for us to judge but anyone who have watched the first two episodes could tell that the story is going to be rich and full of details and that the characters*I'm not sure if all characters in the novel have made an appearance* are both original and multi-dimensional. The setting is breath-taking! I'm loving the themes and vibrant colors.
