| Want to introduce yourself to the club? Post here! I'll start with an updated post. I'll primarily stick with my experiences just so I don't have information floating around. My occupation is that of a Software Engineer Currently my experiences are: [Graphical] ---- Photoshop - Among things such as graphics design and signatures I've worked on, I've also done extensive Scanlation, primarily in the Cleaner/Redrawing category and most notably in the later Redrawing scene. - I'm more fluent with affects in photoshop than I am with the actual drawing portion of it however. I can't draw entirely from scratch. ---- Illustrator - Primarily only graphics design here. [Visual] -------- Animation ---- 3DS Max - I did construction/modelling and animation and although the scale was large, I still have little experience in it. ---- Adobe Flash - More experience in this category, quite a few animations I've done in flash, only one I'm remotely proud of. -------- Video Editing ---- Premier - My go-to video editing software now, done quite a number of things in Premier but I'm no expert. ---- After Effects - My go-to effects software, done quite a number of things in this software but again, no master. ---- Sony Vegas - First software for video editing I used, used it for a few years before moving to the above mentioned. [Programming] Primary field of expertise. I'm proficient with - Assembly - C - C# (Both client side and server side) - C++ - mySQL - T-SQL - Javascript (for both websites and Flash) - JQuery - Ajax - VB.NET - Java - MatLab. Category wise i've done development on Vision Recognition systems using MatLab Simulink, Android Development using Java SDK, Database development using primarily SQLite and Microsoft SQL, websites using C# for serverside and ASP.NET/Javascript for the website/clientside development., and various application using pretty much everything (primarily C# and vb.net). I'm probably missing a bunch but this is off the top of my head. [Programs] Not including the above mentioned, I'm also knowledgeable with many programs in general. Mainly my time is put into engineering related programs such as Matlab, Autocad (Mechanical and Electrical), AutoDesk Inventor, Vault systems, SVNs, Solidworks, etc. Sharepoint, SQL Server If you have any questions, feel free to ask. and a bunch I just don't feel like listing. |

| Hi ^^ software experience I've been into programming for the past couple of years, and I love it. Something that you should know about me is that all the programs I use are free ( or were given to me for free ), because I'm dirt poor. I wish to major in Mechanical Engineering, so I've been taking Drafting Classes at my school. We use AutoCad ( an extremely expensive software ) to draft objects. In December 2008, I saw all the great graphics on MAL and decided I wanted to try and make some. I found out about GIMP, a free image-editor, and I've been make some every now and then ever since. It's been about a year since I learned C++, PHP, HTML, and mySQL, so this summer I'm going to try my best to re-learn everything ( maybe not mySQL until later ) I've already started by making my own website since I learned that 000webhost.com is a free webhosting site that includes all the features need to make a scripted signature ( which I'm also in the process of learning how to do ) It's been over two years since I've used Visual Basic, Macromedia Flash, and Microsoft Excel. Flash is fun but not free : ( I used dreamweaver a couple times when I was younger, but IMO notepad is much easier/better ^^ Oh, and GlovePIE. It lets you sync up your Nintendo Wiimote (and many other controllers) to your computer using bluetooth, and then you can program what the wiimote's actions will do on your computer. I haven't done this for a year either... too much homework. Edit forgot some other programming ( because they're firefox ad-ons ) Ubiquity is something I've recently learned. You can create and use commands that are very useful. Stylish is an add-on for firefox that lets you change the styles of a webpage or the browser itself. I learned about this from the Mal Theme Club I guess that's it.... Edit: forgot about personal stuff... might add later |

| Hi, I think only playing games is boring. That's why I started using Macromedia Flash. I created some basic games with flash to play with my close friends. After a year without pc because of my high school enterance exams, I haven't used flash and I forgot it.. I started producing mod's for Warcraft III Frozen Throne. Some of them was a huge success and 1 of them is published a gaming magazine in my country. But it was not enough. I started using 3dsmax to create my own 3d characters for my mods. I can create models and animate them now. In one week, I will relase a new map. I hope it will turn out good. Meanwhile I continued watching anime and playing Dota. I had very good strategies in Dota, so I decided to make a video about it. Movie Maker was so lame, so I decided to make it with Sony Vegas. If you know dota then you might want to watch my video. I will post the link later. . I have created an AMV of Kara No Kyoukai but I don't like it so it never published to public. Yeah that's all and here is the link to dota vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UkuwEtISh0 |

| Hi! I'm Alvin. Also 17 and from Ontario, Canada. Taking Advanced Functions, Calculus/Vectors, Physics, Chemistry, Business Leadership, English, Computer Science 12. Personality? -Completely Quiet unless talked to which then allows me to be comfortable in talking to you Also have a modded PSP but I don't really use it to play games anymore. Until the good ones come out. Always been treated as some kind of genius when I'm really not. I play basketball as a break from all the sitting down and thinking. About anime/manga, it came to me when I was very young. I saw robots and was ZOMG! And then I finished watching every Gundam series (before Seed) before I turned 10. Yes, I had no life during those days. Programming Experience It's fun taking code and changing it up. Which is how I got into programming. -Turing (LOL such crappy language) -Java (one year basic) -Object C (Cocoa)/C++ (minimal experience/currently learning) -PHP (minimal experience/currently learning) -mySQL (minimal experience/currently learning) -Does cmd/terminal count? Games preferred -JRPGs/SRPGs -Team FPS -RTSs/RTTs Software Experience -Photoshop (2 years) -Flash (3 years) -Vegas (6 Months) -Various media conversion programs [MediaCoder/AllToAVI] (6 months) - Forced to learn how to convert anime because I can't watch anime on my PC all the time. Have wasted numerous hours trying to convert anime in MKV to AVI or PSP MP4. -Various customization programs (5-6 years) - Seriously, I wasted too much time trying to make my GUI completely different from what everyone else is using. |

| Well I guess I will say something xD Name's Jonathon from Ontario Canada <.< Lets see my experience is almost nothing heh besides the generic playing with dreamweaver which I dislike for some reason, and taking an already existing code and changing it. I did a co-op at a movie creation company in my city, and I got to use photoshop so I am somewhat decent with that. Also I have made my friends profile and pictures on her Anime/Manga list. Starting college for computer programming in September though so soon I shall be able to help people instead of asking for help =D Enough about me. |

| Greetings everyone, I am Neo Angelus(or Ian :p). I'm from the Netherlands. I am a Computer Science student concentrating on Artificial Intelligence. Current OS['s]: - Windows 7 & XP - Snow Leopard - Debian[Linux] (I do not have a favourite OS, I switch depending on what I want to do.) Programming Languages: - Haskell - Prolog - Java - C / C++ / Object C (different language, but all part of the same family) - CUDA - Visual Basic - PHP / [x]html / XML / java-&vb-script - SQL (mySQL en PostgreSQL) - Assembly(Only for microcontrollers) - LaTeX(Not really a programming language) Games preferred: - Fighter - RTS - RPG(But like Monster Hunter or Demon's Soul, don't like the tbl) Software Experience: - Visual Studio (6-2010) (7 years) - Eclipse (2 years) - mySQL / PostgreSQL(4 years) - Apache(4 years) - 3DSmax(4 years) - Lightwave(6-7 years) - Paint Shop Pro 9, Adobe CS4 Master Collection, Gimp - FireFox, Opera, Safari, IE8 Projects: - a Raytracer (once C++, once Java, support for DirectX models) - Msn client for iPhone(Objective-C) - Video Converter(Java, I got fed up with programs not converting the subs or taking the English audio in stead of the Japanese(or worse...both) So I wrote a program that converts OGM/MKV and AVI(probably more) to mp4(iPhone/PSP)) - 'Embedded system' for a humanoid robot(C++) - 'OS' (Printing text/kernel-user-mode phase) - 'Ikariya'(yeah the little squid inspired me, general management program, downloads new episodes, makes dinner choices&shopping list, reminds of dates and other stuff, helps with programming. Uses speech, email, IRC en MSN to communicate. C++ and Objective-C for iPhone interface) - Various other projects |

| Hey everyone, thanks for the invite. Looks like I'm the old man of the group XD. I apologize for the form-like nature of this post, but it is probably the most effective way of doing this. Anime - I've been a fan for fifteen years. This is MAL, so you can check my account. I also do an anime podcast called Akihabara Renditions which you can check out at http://akibarenonline.org. Video Games - I don't play video games. Much out of time constraints, more out of the fact that I don't find them entertaining or relaxing. Occasionally, if I am playing a game, its probably something on my old PlayStation. Computing - I was brought up around computers and really got into them about the end of elementary school. As I grew up, I began building my own systems and eventually branching out into non-Microsoft territory and surfing the net. I graduated from university with a Bachelor's in Information Security and Assurance and the first of what will probably be many security certifications, so I am most interested in security-related topics. Current Operating systems - I use a fair bit of Linux (openSuSE on my desktop, Xubuntu on my laptop and I usually keep some Live CDs like Knoppix, Back|Track and nUbuntu handy.) I do have some Windows 7 RC partitions to mostly experiment with. Languages - HTML and VB 6.0 from ages ago; I did some Java, perl, WSH and SQL while in Uni but I mostly use perl and SQL now at work. I'm not a very good coder at all, so I try and stay away from programming. I'm looking forward to talking with everyone. |

naeCeal said: Hey, welcome to the club. ;D Thanks for the welcome. naeCeal said: I've never even looked at WSH. Unless you're really curious... I wouldn't worry about it. XD. I like perl much better and I remember it being much more reliable than Windows scripting. I only did it because it was something we had to do at University. naeCeal said: Ubuntu Linux is great, mostly because it's costly free. Looking forward to Version 9.10. Hopefully the interface will be enhanced. ;D I've used a couple of Ubuntu variants but never straight-up Ubuntu. All Linux is cost free, that's the best part of F/OSS to me. I don't know if I'll jump straight into Xubuntu 9.10; I can't imagine there being too many OS improvements that would be nice on my laptop. I'm also not one to go for fancy interfaces and add-ons. Typically, I've got something I want to do and/or need to get done, so I don't care how pretty it is or isn't. If I want to impress someone with what's on my screen, apparently, XTerm is all it takes. :/ naeCeal said: Windows 7 has a great interface, I like the looks. My only complaint about the interface is that Windows Classic Mode looks too cartoony. LOL. naeCeal said: Information Security, as in online Web Security? - SSL/TLS/SSH protocols? Bit encryption is neat to develop (...though I haven't yet). ;D Personally, I don't do a lot of web security stuff; same field but a different facet of information security. There are some free tools that I can check out for websec testing but I've just not gotten around to it. Professionally, I deal primarily in network intrusions (including IDS/IPS management) and incident response with a bit of security administration. I'm still thinking about where I want to take my career - if I want to go the penetration testing route (adding web security and a few other InfoSec subfields on top of the network stuff I do) or if I want to go into Auditing (which, PenTesting can be a part of). |

| hmm.... Software Experience I'm a coder/programmer, and I mostly concern myself with backend stuff, data processing, manipulation, conversion and storage, that sort of things. My main language is C++, and I've done things in C#, python, tcl, Java, php, and SQL only for storage and retrieval of data. I'm not very graphical inclined but I enjoy good visuals in anime and I'm here primarily to keep track of what I've watched between programming sessions :) Graphical Experience I've been messin' about in fireworks and photoshop back when they were from 2 different companies. I now only use GIMP for images. I have done Web pages in Dreamweaver (since MX and till CS2) but I've dropped most web designs... too much graphics >_<" I would just like to add that among things I've dropped is the MS Windows OS. Now all my PC's at home runs Gentoo Linux only, no dual boots or anything, apart from a stripped XP64 that runs in VMWare |

| Greetings, name's VirusZero. (Most just call me VZ though.) I mainly use Windows XP for my OS, though I have tried Knoppix and Kubuntu 7.04. (I have no interest in anything apple though.) For my programing knowledge, I've used: Actionscript (only AS2 from Flash 8, nothing newer than that.) HTML (Basics pretty much.) CSS (Bare minimum) Javascript (same as CSS.) PHP (beginner level here) Java (1 semester course from my university.) For future languages I want to try to learn XML and MySQL... When I'm not trying to figure out some code, I typically spend my time writing in roleplays or playing videogames. I enjoy action games, adventure games, rpg games and first person shooters. I don't really love racing games, but I do play them occasionally. I own a PS2, PS3, Gamecube and a laptop capable of gaming. |

SQL, while either MySQL, POSTGRES, Oracle or even MS-SQL, is a pretty powerful tool to have at your disposal, especially if you get a job where you have to manage data. A lot of people find databases incredibly boring; I guess I was weird or had a good professor because I enjoyed database classes all the way from design to information retrieval. I find SQL queries to be some of the easiest programming I've done (and I don't even like programming!). If I can lend any advice, learn the syntax and the command line of it. I would advise that you should stay away from GUI'ed SQL stuff (Like MS Access or OpenOffice.org's BASE). Once you know how actual Structured Query Language works, making a GUI-based front end for someone else is do-able in those systems while you can manually write the queries to ensure proper result sets. While I am not really that interested in OS X from Apple, there is a chance that I may be moving to a company which uses BSD; I'm curious if there is anyone who uses BSD here (since I didn't see it listed) or if they make more use of the CLI in OS X rather than "it looks pretty and i want to draw pictures and be a trendy hipster"? My introductory question is: How similar is the CLI to other Unix-based OSes; namely Linux? I've heard from others that it is pretty similar and that install is the only real difference. I'm looking for some other opinions if there are any. |

| I guess an introduction is in order. Name's TheWanderingEye. TWE is better since the handle is a bit of a mouthful :V I can probably be best described as a technology enthusiast. I've recently graduated from university, my program being Information Technology, Communications stream. So on top of programming and the sort I've got a bit of a background in the social sciences. Right now getting by as development and support for a small software company, though I'm looking into branching out into other things as well. I'll be dropping in every now and then to see if I can help folks out. In addition, I'll probably post little tidbits I come across on the internet, like the lectures on the CCCen youtube channel, with some thoughts on how it applies to us folks on the net. Looking forward to my time here with you all. |

| 2013-01-07T00:22:06+08:00 You can refer to me as www if you find my username to be too long (although copy-pasting is recommended for avoiding moniker typos). I can sleep between three to twenty three hours (depending on fatigue), but the normal duration is really just between six to ten. I'm perhaps too old to be called a NEET so it would be prudent to think of me as a "retired entrepreneur" instead. Don't ask for details as I don't want to remember them myself. ~,~' Anyway, that's what I write in the occupation field of the departure/arrival cards during the rare occasions I get to travel abroad. I've been trying to learn programming since I was eight and I have this sinking feeling that I'm less-in-the-know than before, what with how information technology seems to hop and dash and skip (despite tripping from time to time due to the egos of visionaries and pioneers). I keep failing to grasp the essence of object oriented programming. I have yet to understand how design patterns apply to actual coding. I usually can't keep up with modern realtime games so I naturally gravitated towards turn-based ones. A couple of my favorites were Heroes of Might and Magic IV and Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic. (Would be nice if I could make a hybrid of those two.) I would have included Civilizations Revolutions DS except that the AI is terrible. I'm using Xubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit. When I switched from Windows XP to Ubuntu 8.10 32-bit in 2008, I never looked back (especially since Vista was more like a downgrade). The comparative UI responsiveness is something very noticeable in lower end machines (which I had to make do with throughout the years). I'm not an architect so just about every kind of software I need is available to me (in my OS of choice). I don't need much anyhow. I joined this club because I'm curious as to what woes ill those who use proprietary apps. Furthermore, it's good for future reference when I can't use my own machine. (I'm the only Linux user in my family, if not my whole clan.) 2013-01-07T01:04:40+08:00 |
| Naysayers almost effortlessly make the possible seem impossible since they usually just parrot generalized, oversimplified, or uninspired arguments. However, the proper, but significantly more difficult way to refute an idea is to discredit all major and most minor cases. In contrast, a single convincing solution can prove feasibility though it isn't a trivial pursuit either. |
