Who exactly was the woman ichise has sex in the firs episode? She seemed just a whole but the fact that the "mob" cut the arm from Ichise just for hitting her shows that she had some importance. Also, the guy watching them have sex was probably responsable for the fights?

I am almost under the impression that she is the same woman that Yoshii slept with later in the series. Hopefully someone, or myself will check the validity of my statement.

As to her significance, I would guess that she is a prostitute employed by said "gang" or organization that fixed the fight Ichise was in.

Thats the problem. If she was simply a prostitute I dont think Ichise was going to have his arm chop off just for hitting her. Wouldnt she be more like the woman of the guy that watched them have sex (that arranged the fights) or at least a really influential lover?
I saw in a review that: " Aida, the man who 'oversees' the love-making, is the man who runs the fights and the sex is a reward for winning". (i dont see any basis to say that the sex is a reward. Its a possibility as much likely as she requested and its only for her fun)
I saw in wikipedia: "He suffers the amputation of an arm and a leg after he refuses to subject to the sadistic demands of his patron's woman".
its probably something like that. Ill have to rewatch to give the details but 100%sure that woman is not the one Yoshii has sex with (although its an interesting theory).
But its really "funny" how this incredible journey started with a small thing. The
started with a hooker poking a guys eye. another hooker gave all the details to Yushii about how the city worked.
Also is interesting the eye thing.

I agree with Kurodayuchi to some extent.

Personally I believe that we shouldn't really bother worrying about who she was, or why she was really in there. That's not the point. The point is that Ichise went through such a transformation, from being an underground fighter into something almost like a hero, because of her. Who she is is of little consequence, it's what she created that matters, or rather what she helped create.

I agree about how her identity is irrelevant when faced with what she had done. However, as a discussion point of view, NOTHING is irrelevant, mainly when we are talking about such an intelligent series. If you put Michael Jordan side by side with Bao Xishun (world’s tallest man) he’ll look like a dwarf, but that doesn’t mean that Michael isn’t tall.
I’ve re watched and it turns out, to put it simple, like that:
That woman gives some money in order to have sex with Ichise. She’s the woman of the guy that arranges the fights. This guy or is impotent and imagines himself in the body of other men that have sex with her… or he just likes to see her woman having sex with others. This woman gets crazy after seeing the things that appears on the view of texhnolyzed ones. She pokes Ichise’s eyes like trying to understand it – if they were like hers, why they’re blue (Ichise is the only one that has the original inhabitant’s eyes)… basically she makes a philosophical, and physical, dissection. Ichise nocks her down, what’s pretty bad, since he’s just a poor fighter while she’s an upper class. The end (?).
Said that, Fallen clearly is somebody that can make intelligent analyzes and I hope more good comments from him here on the club.

Cool. I am glad that you were able to figure that part out. There does seem to be some kind of trend in society where men enjoy watching their girlfriends of wives have sex with other men. I guess it really, in the case of Texhnolyze itself, be a commentary on class roles and how in the name of entertainment they demoralize each other. Boxing to me has always seemed like a way of expressing that class divide. Rich or upperclassmen gamble on the outcome of the fight between poor or underclassmen. The whole series seems to deal with this whole divide between these two classes of citizens. The relationship represented by Ichise, the woman, and the fight coordinator is just where it begins.

The idea progresses through each of the characters and the relationships that form throughout the series.

I love this show :)

I don't remember him hitting her. Don't tell me I'm going to have to watch that episode again. :)

Yeah, I've never understood that sentiment. When a man seems to express interest in having "his" woman ogled by other men, I always get confused. I would think he would want her to himself and wouldn't want to share. That's the way it should be to me, it seems.

Its the feeling that most people get, male or female. I am really unsure why anyone would want to share their partner, at least in that regard. Geez I had really bad grammar. I hope I don't still write that badly.

One of these days I will have to marathon this show as quickly as possible to get the full extent of all the things it is trying to convey.

Who else wants a blu-ray treatment of this show?

I believe the main motivation for this is a sense of pride. I have something that you want, type of deal. It's a means to show dominance and I think it's more of a primal instinct than something that can be logically justified. Men are more prone to this, in my opinion, because men are more susceptible to pride and ego.
