Finally finished this show after putting it on-hold for months.

So in the end they never find out who the girl was. Ending makes you lean toward it being Naru, but Otohime said there was lots of girls :D

Its a fitting ending to a show like this, but its a fairly bad ending. Overall a pretty decent watch though, 7/10. Onto all the extras.

You never really know who Keitaro made the promise to, but they made a lot of hints to make it seem like it was Naru after all.

Especially in the Christmas Special OVA.

So.. in the end almost nothing is resolved, we're basically back to square one. I guess it's not that important, but it would be nice to have a bit more closure in a series, oh well. Finally finished the series after putting on hold for months and I would say it was okay, nothing really great. Debating if I should give this a 6 or a 7.

Well, this was nice although it would have been better if they had revealed who the girl from Keitaro's past was, but ah well. This was my second time trying to watch this cause the first time I just had to drop it lol at the end, it wasn't that bad.

The story puzzling in together at the end was great but the build up, not so much. It was a slapstick romance which I didn't enjoyed as much as I would hope to. There were innovative animations for its time. It was a hit and miss but A for effort.

I rate this anime as E... for excellent!

After I watched the first episodes of this anime I thought is going to be a masterpiece (oh boy I was so wrong). The first quarter was brilliant, the middle was bad ( I expected more romance than comedy) and last quarter was good.

A pretty decent ending and well to actual know the truth is pretty funny if it actually is true or not well it did make up for a decent conclusion to everything! I wonder what the specials and the sequel has to offer so let's see what's next!

I thought it was a pretty good ending and although they never actually said it, it would make sense then that Naru was actually the girl he made the promise to.

I'll watch the specials and Love Hina Again now :)

Seemed to take forever to watch it! lol.

Not a Keitaro/Naru fan; she's too violent. It was sorta like Sakura and Naruto; funny at first and then it got old.

Loved the ending, only because Motoko finally got some decent airtime and her sister should have been in the series from the beginning.

Thisvis just like what happened in ranma anime, worse romance and worst girl wins. 1/10

The tiny morsel of forced drama and romance was not worth 20 episodes of overused pervert slap stick and arbitrary events. Even as an brainless ecchie it was really bland. i wasn't expecting very much and it still surprised me.

I rate this anime E......for excellent. So, in the end, after all those drama we came to know Mutsumi wasn't the girl, WTF??? The anime had good start but then keep falling its grade, very bad overall. 3/10, 1 for good art, 1 for little bit of ecchi scenes, 1 for the story as we have very few good moments.

I thought it was obvious that they would leave things ambiguous.

Well anyway, overall I enjoyed this a great deal and the "conclusion" also neatly fitted the characteristics of this anime.

Characters were the best aspect imo, I liked every single one and their dynamics.

Looking forward to the OVA and specials.

Felt like watching this again today.

This is the sweetest anime episode I have ever seen in my life. It makes me cry.

Naru x Keitaro, best couple ever. Keitaro mans up, he's not like modern harem boys.

Looks like my sentiments are not shared by many. This was the first anime I ever saw, and still among the best.

Yes, it was inconclusive. I did find Love Hina Again enjoyable though, and this is the only anime I ever read the manga for to get a conclusion.

Mei has such a great unexpected turnaround. Seta has good intentions, but there was another way to handle the situation. The "band" reunited soon, and it all ends with more Naru pajamas violence against Keitaro. But at least, it's not 100% confirmed that mutsumi is the promise girl... what a relief.

Dropped a point from the original score before this rewatch, but it should be a 6,5/10 rather than a 7. Criticism for this series has justified reasons to exist, i wanted to think it was too heavy for some aspect, but honestly...

it is a hit or miss from beginning to end, some characters are good and make the show worth watching, some others improve, some others are unsufferable. Probably i won't bother searching for the c-word holiday season special (still with italian dub even if with a different cast for some reason, even if from the same city) and the OVAs that have never been imported in this country. i don't feel like my time was wasted, but it's probably for the best if i just stop at this point.

Also agree on "today's harem boy", it is one of the reason why I rewatched my most fav anime bcz it is hard to find a good anime today..
While u got mixed of romance, ecchi, a little bit of drama N also fun to watch..

Next I am planning to rewatch "Kimi ga Nozomu Eien" ~

@Tsukasa_Rio oh I didn't like Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, too grown up for me. That blue haired girl was hot though.

Love Hina was phenomenal, I still stand by it. After that one I was hooked and understood why people like anime.

This show was a lot of fun. Lots of great fanservice. Magic ancient alien turtles. A dreamlike town with wistful council elders. Magical girls, giant robots, ghosts, clockwork dolls, and samurai.

Shinobu is unbearably sweet. It's really a shame she doesn't stand a chance. I missed Taichi, and I was looking forward to her eventually stealing Shinobu's kiss. Su is a wild girl through and through. You never know what mayhem she'll get up to. Gifted in technology but dumb as a doorknob otherwise. Motoko is badass, and I really wanted to see a route with her. Mitsune is a wily troublemaker. I was hoping the aunt would get together with Seta. Sara was as cruel as they come; she really deserved that spanking! Mei was adorable. The Moe subplot reminded me of Rozen Maiden. Great characters with tons of chemistry.

I wasn't sure who I was rooting for until the end. Naru is the obvious choice, but she's just so thoroughly mean to him throughout the entire show. She doesn't even confess to him at the end, beyond that kiss. Would it kill her to say she likes him? It was nice that she actually made the promise though.

Keitarou confessed Naru's feelings to Seta because he knew she wouldn't. He didn't want her to wonder what would've happened if she had and just settled for him instead. Which makes it honestly pretty mean of Naru to not immediately tell Keitarou and Mitsume that they were searching for each other. And then to still bash him constantly, after ruining their first date, and refuse to admit she was jealous.

Mitsume is the second option. They seem made for each other, like two peas in a pod. Their union might be disastrous though; they might end up in the arctic trying to go on vacation :p. But she's nice and will treat him very well.

I definitely have issues with the final theme. I don't think it would've been wrong for Keitarou to settle for Mitsume. He wouldn't have even been cheating on her. Especially considering Naru openly attempted to go out with Kentarou at the prospect of a cheap outing that she insisted was NOT a date. And both girls admitted it would be fine if he didn't get into Tokyo U. It doesn't make you a scoundrel to ditch the girl that's abusing you.

8/10. I would have liked to see the routes for the other girls fleshed out a little more, even just as what-ifs or an episode or two. And of course there's no real conclusion to anything yet.

On to the specials and OVAs!

Update:
Back from the specials. So I guess there isn't a confirmed promise-ee yet after all. I don't know why the recap is called Final Selection when it's just the show's ending.

Christmas special was overhyped, and I didn't care for it. Naru was just too much of a bitch the entire time, for her speech at the end to really sway me. The island special was fun, but there wasn't nearly enough fanservice. Only Naru and Nyome had swimsuits!

The Motoko special was the best one. I do think that Motoko is best girl, but I don't think she's the best pairing for Keitarou. OVA time.

The anime follow losely the manga so yeah many thing are different.

The anime is way more focus on comedy and adapt often a stand alone chapter in a full episode. The manga is nearly 80% focus on the love story. The comedy is here to build the relationship. The manga story also take place during 4 years, so characters evolve a lot.
Their background of the characters are also slitly différent between both version.

But in same time, the manga also reuse some anime exclusive idea.

I totally lost it here (in a good sense). This is absolutely perfect resolution to the whole "the promise" arc and to this anime. Honestly unsure if the sequel makes much sense after such a fun conclusion, but of course I’ll check it out. Tomorrow’s Christmas, perfect day to watch the Christmas special (exactly 25 years since its airing).

Obviously it ends in the ultimate its-not-what-it-looks-like! Ugh, the nostalgia and heart-warming energy of this show! I had never fully finished it until adulthood, but I played the silly Love Hina Sim Date game as a kid, and it's how I knew so early that I liked girls. Theres a cheat that makes you (the player) a clone of Naru lol. I was a kid and basically kinned Kaolla before I knew what that was.
