Synopsis

Universal Century 0079.03.18 – The Principality of Zeon carries out their third drop operation. The 4th Terrestrial Mobile division make their way down to Earth. Chief Petty Officer Cuaran arrives on Earth as a part of the 908th Mobile Reconnaissance Company 2nd Team’s Commander. He would later be the man who attempted to destroy the Federation’s “white mobile suit”, the dreaded “Gundam.”

There is a particular sweet spot that UC0079 manga hit for the Gundam fan. It's a niche feeling, but for those who love the Universal Century timeline and the lore that comes with it, Hard Graph Iron Mustang is a nice complement to the world. While there are references to the main Mobile Suit Gundam series, this manga stands on it's on, introducing characters that fit the length of this two volume series. Since entire manga takes place in the early stages of the war, the characters do not have any serious arc or development. There are no grand stories, or narratives to wrap up, ...

Mixed Feelings

After finishing Gundam 0083 Rebellion, I really wanted to read other works by Masato Natsumoto, but it may be the case that I went in with too high expectations. This manga focuses on one of the minor characters from the original Gundam anime, a character who got a "day in the limelight" and then thirty years got a small manga spin-off for himself. The art is fine, but I can't help but feel that the slice of the One Year War depicted here is too small.
